PSO 1 & 2 compatability with III

Ok, thanks everyone. I guess it can't be that complicated once you get started. With zero computer knowledge I figured out how to port forward on our router so bittorrent would work properly. No PC knowledge, just lots of persistence. ;)

Actually, you boot up your GC to network mode, make sure your network is configured right
then go to the website to PURCHASE a hunters license.
It works on the GC more than it does on PC.
The damn instruction book says this!

Yeah, but the instruction book isn't going to say things like "it's a complete pain in the ass to get it to work" or "God damn! The monthly fee is extortionate!" so I thought I'd ask the helpful people at this forum in case there were any little things I needed to know about that Sega aren't going to print in their booklets.

PSO 1 & 2 compatability with III

Alright, let me sort this out.

I was wondering if the character you create in PSO 1 or 2 can be taken into PSO III.

Character transfer from PSO: Episode I & II to PSO: Episode III is not possible.

Oh, also, what's the difference between PSO ver 2 and PSO 2?

PSO 2 doesn't exist. What you probably mean is PSO: Episode I & II. Basically, it consists of all the PSO Ver.2 content, plus the new Episode II, bug fixes, three new character classes (HUcaseal, RAmarl, FOmar), and various system features and changes.
For a detailed list, check this FAQ.

I'm pretty sure that players of PSO III can interact in the lobby with PSO 1 and 2 players. I've read it in two different reviews.

PSO: Episode III players can enter the lobbies of PSO: Episode I & II and chat with the players there. They can also enter the lobby soccer/football lobbies and participate. They can do the same things as PSO: Episode I & II players in the lobbies, but they can not see and enter PSO: Episode I & II games.
PSO: Episode III players have their own C.A.R.D. lobbies that PSO: Episode I & II players can't enter. Except for the appearance and play tables, the lobby functions are the same.

Does PSO III have a storyline that you can play through with a friend (or three) like PSO 1 and 2?

Unfortunately, no. Online PSO: Episode III consists strictly of battles and tournaments that don't take place in the storyline. But there are some quests that you can play with other players which sometimes involve the storyline.
However, you can play cooperatively if you like, against the (dumb) COM.

In terms of playing PSO 1 and 2 online (I hear that's the point of them, right? ) is it just a case of buying a Gamecube modem thingy and plugging it in (to the broadband enabled phone socket/router) or is there some sort of signing up process?

If you have a dial-up connection, you will need a Modem Adapter.
If you have a DSL or cable connection, you will need a Broadband Adapter.
I read that you have a router. This will make it easy.
You need:
-Broadband Adapter
-RJ45 CROSSOVER(not patchable!) Ethernet cable
1)Install the Broadband Adapter into your GameCube below. You will see how on the supplied chart.
2)Connect the Ethernet cable on the port to the right of your GameCube. You will notice that the port is part of your Broadband Adapter. Connect the other end to a port on your router.
3)Turn on your GameCube (and your router, if it's not on).
4)On the title screen, select Options, Network Option, Provider Option. Answer Yes to the question.
5)It will ask you to create a Sega Network Information file. Do so.
6)Click Network Setup. Choose Provider 1 in the list. It doesn't matter if you choose another or don't bother, though. Click Edit.
7)Choose a name for the connection profile. "Router" will do.
8) Since you connect using a router, you want the first option of the three - Automatically obtain an IP address (DHCP). Choose "Next" until you come to a screen where you can choose "Save".
9)Try to connect to the Homepage to see if the connection works.
10)If it works, you'll likely be brought to a Sega site where you can purchase your Hunter's License. The site is different for each continent, so I'm not sure if I can help with that. The steps should be clear, though.
IMPORTANT: You can use the same Hunter's License for PSO: Episode I & II as for PSO: Episode III. You do not need to buy it twice. To use the same license, use the same serial number and access key for PSO: Episode III.
As for the billing,
-if you live in the US, your card will be charged the fee every 30 days for a Hunter's License until you cancel it
-if you live in Europe, you will have to renew your Hunter's License manually

8.99 is extortionate?!
It's cheap compared to the other online games.
Oh wait, It isn't FREE so it's extortionate.
I Shouldn't have forgotten that little stupid belief.

Well tis true! Hell...what do we pay for in Episode 1&2....server maintence? No download quests...no monitering Sega employees to rid the game of hackers/spammers....
I'd say 8.99 is deffinitely getting the shaft.

NEo! You are getting tons of online quests with the Hunters license on Episode 1/2!
Just look at Benoit's Script site
Over 20 online quests, new ones come.
How can you miss this?
The quests are ONLINE for a reason.

Khyron, first off, I didn't say it was extortionate, I said it would be nice to be told beforehand if it was. Sega aren't gonna say that, are they? They'll say "For a BARGAIN price you can join the marvellous world of PSO!!!"
I wanted to get a fans view of the service, rather than the view of those markerting it. According to Coca Cola sugar is good for you and doesn't damage your teeth or anything crazy like that at all! They even did scientific tests! Well that's obviously BS, but it just goes to show how much companies lie. Not that I would ever equate Sega to Coca Cola, but all the same, their gonna have you believe that their games are the best ever.
Aaaanyway...
Having said all that, I do actually think Neo48 has a point. $8.99 is "ok" at best. So you get online quests maybe. But there are servers of UO that have online events almost constantly and new content always being added. However, $8.99 is no big deal to me, fortunately. That's £5 a month for us British PSO players and I get just under £800 a month, so I don't think it'll be a problem. :D

[Edit by Zubon on [TIME]1113488122[/TIME]]

Actually, compared to Coca Cola, Sugar IS good for your teeth. I just recently went to the dentist and he told me that Coke was keeping the germs off my teeth by killing them. Unfortunately he also told me that the carbonation was dissolving my teeth, so the fact that I had no germs to cause cavities wasn't exactly a bonus.
If I could just find Coke without carbonation, I'd be in heaven.
Personally I'd LOVE to play online, and I'd be willing to pay the 10 bucks or whatever for a couple months, but I wouldn't stay on for a year or more, and I want to figure out what kind of character I really like best before I go spending money on it.
(plus I need the broadband adapter)

What do you mean "compared" to sugar? Coke IS sugar. It's carbonated, caffeinated sugar water with vegetable extracts and colourings. :x

GC PSO was not given what they should have been given. I have less fun when I enter a game with three other Hunters who use Double Cannon. I couldn't use my Black King Bar without being accused of meing a duper. I used my Demolition Comet all the time to avide such remarks.
Spammers who make emots that dipict quite "raunchy" visuals are not appreciated by me at least. And these are the easy things to point out.
I also once stated to Benoit (told him the page to) that the instruction booklet states that download quests are available...which are NOT. I laugh quite hard when I read the same thing in the altered PSO Plus booklet...despite the fact that there still were no download quests.
I think most money from fees should go towards the hacking/duping problems, because not online does it corrupt the game that they created (they should care about that at least, right?) but it ruins the enjoyment for the players.
There were good points though...holiday Rappy Hunts, and the quests that are online are good to do as a change from the normal offline quests.

Considering you download the quest data to the MEMORY CARD to play it online..
It is a downloadable quest.
^_^
Gives you incentive to go online.

no monitering Sega employees to rid the game of hackers/spammers....

Actually, Sonic Teams bans a hell of alot of spammers/fsoders.
They keep buying new games to come back. That is something Sonic Team can't stop.
Even MMORPG's with Nprotect can't stop hackers/cheaters. No matter what, they will always exist.
Bandwidth for all those servers is costly.
[Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1113520287[/TIME]]

Yeah, I would just say in defence of Sega (who are in my top 4 fave developers, I have to say) that Yuji Naka said that with PSO they spend more time dealing with bad players than developing the game for the good ones.
