Can I use US Genesis carts, such as the original PSII one on a european Mega-Drive?
I want to buy the originals.

I'm not to sure, but I think earlier Gensis/Megadrive games will work on any system, and seeing as how PS2 is an oldi, it may work. But as I said I'm not sure.

O_o
If you're curious, get the US roms, load them in Gens, and switch to European region mode. If it loads...you're good. If it says wrong country...sorry.
-Corey

You can't mix international drives, so don't try it. You'll either fry your game, the system, or both. The format, from the electric configuration to the CPU 'outline', is all slightly different. You can only use US carts with the US mega-drive, and likewise for the European and Japanese versions.

But the software, which is the CDs and the cartridges, are all the same.
Early Genesis games like Phantasy Star II will work on the Mega Drive. Games from 1992 and later don't.
Still, why not just buy the EU versions? I have them, and while they were slightly harder to find than the US versions, I still managed to get them. There are more US copies, but many of them aren't complete at all. Except for PSII, of which I don't have the hintbook and the map, I have gotten all Phantasy Star games complete, and for a reasonable price.

Was it 1992? I though it was as early as 1990. But that doesn't matter for PSII anyways...

That's weird 'cause I have a JVC X'Eye (which has a universal cartridge slot) and of the three Japanese PS games I tried, PSIV was the only one that worked.

You can use a genesis cart on a japanese megadrive and viceversa, but I doubt you can do it on an european one because of video format differences (PAL/NTSC).

To be honest, I'm not too bothered now that I have PAL PSII and PSIII!
I'm still looking for the other ones though.
