In a lot of series, I love decoding character names and seeing what their names mean. In the Phantasy Star series, you have a mix of common names, and also uncommon names, if they could be names at all.
PS1:
Alis - IIRC, Alisa is her full name, right? Obviously some form Alice or Alison.
Myau - Probably not a name, and probably a pun on meow if I’m not mistaken.
Odin - An uncommon name , but it can be a shortened version of Odysseus.
Noah - Fairly common name.
PS2:
Rolf - It’s a Germanic name. Ralph is more common spelling with the same pronounciation.
Nei - Not a name,it’s explained what it means in her bio.
Rudo - Short for Rudolph.
Amy - Short for Amelia or Amanda.
Hugh - Fairly common name, variant of Hugo.
Anna - Fairly common name.
Josh - Again, fairly common name.
Shir - Short for Shirley I guess?
PS3:
Rhys - Not too common of a name, but still a name.
Mieu - Another meow pun? Wasn’t too sure here.
Wren - Wren can be a name, fairly uncommon though, and I doubt they’re referencing the bird.
Lyle - Not too common of a name, but still counts. Sounds like an inprov
Lena - Again, not that common, but it is a name.
Ayn - Hmm, not too sure here.
Thea - Short for Dorothea I presume.
Sari - Turns out to be a variant of Sarah, aside from the garment.
Nial - Technically Niall, but 4 character limit.
Ryan - Fairly common name.
Laya - Hmm, can’t find too much, LAYA healthcare (Looking After You Always) conflicts.
Sean - Irish version of John.
Aron - Technically Aaron, but 4 character limit again.
Adan - Spanish version of Adam.
Crys - A forced short spelling of Chris?
Gywn - I presume some form of Gwendolyn.
PS4:
Chaz - Short for Charles.
Alys - Hmm, some variant of Alice again?
Hahn - Some version of Johannes/John?
Rune - Is a name, but fairly uncommon in Anglic countries.
Gryz - Again, can’t find anything really. Possibly made up on the spot.
Rika - Could be short for Erika, the female version of Eric, but Rika is also a Japanese name unrelated to that.
Demi - Fairly common name again.
Wren - Same as before.
Raja - Seems to be a fairly common Indian name.
Kyra - Not quite common, but is still a name.
Seth - Decently common name.
So, has anyone else ever thought about character names like this before, at least the more obscure names?
