Why does PD's defeat have to mean that DF is gone?

Postby etony33 » Wed Jul 25, 2018 4:20 am

It doesn't. It doesn't mean that at all.

Look at Phantasy Star III. Was Dark Force defeated by Orakio and Laya? No, he was trapped. Was Dark Force defeated by Rhys's grandson? No, he was trapped. Dark Force is patient.

He's also capable of possession and shapeshifting. Everyone seems to think that the threat that Algo had faced no longer existed. In other words, they let their guard down. All it would take would be for someone to inadvertently release Dark Force from wherever he may be trapped, possibly underneath the former site of the ancient city of Paseo. He managed to trick Chaz, Lutz, and an effing android, who you would think would be able to detect that Seth wasn't human. He's pretty good at this. All it would take would be for him to take human form and orchestrate a Palpatine-esque coup d'etat in order to rule over Algo with an iron fist and destroy it from within.

according to the new Phantasy Star game coming out, DF is still around.

Not sure when in the timeline or even where everything is going to happen, but they did mention Dark Force.

besides, we all know as long as evil exists in the hearts of man, Dark Force will always be around. even with the Profound Darkness destroyed, it doesn't stop evil. it's like if you kill off the original source of a virus, it doesn't mean the virus itself is dead.

Well Dark Force came from the Profound Darkness....and so did all of us...So I guess it makes sense for it to still be around in that light.

However each incarnation of Dark Falz was killed, so to get technical: He dead.

@MrStarbird: You can't have Phantasy Star without Dark Force. It's not unlike how Sephiroth is still involved in FF7 spinoffs. He is too iconic and too central to the series. I'm curious to see what ends up happening. I'm guessing it's probably a prequel of some sort.

@DarkMyau: I'm not sure there was ever really any confirmation that DF was dead. He couldn't do much if he was trapped unless, like in PS3, he had underlings do his work for him during that time.

With the fate of the cast of PS2 uncertain, maybe Rolf could end up falling under DF's influence at some point, coupled with the knowledge of how Lutz was able to hibernate. Rolf as a lich would be fun.

All Dark Forces were defeated. What confirmation would tell you that it's actually dead? The only ambigious case is PSIII's Dark Force, but that game was created before PSIV.

I really don't see how the Profound Darkness can be permanently beaten, either. It's a malevolent deity, not a monster. What better way to destroy Algo than to lull everyone into a false sense of security by pretending to die?

I've always seen DarkFalz as a perfect being. It is the pinnacle of what a sentient being can be.

The Profound Darkness poured everything into it and thus DarkFalz is beyond any other mortal. But it is still mortal.

We saw one powerful spellcaster go into cryogenic sleep indefinitely while also knowing exactly when to wake up. I'm pretty sure DF would be quite capable of doing the same thing.

Phantasy Star IV established that Dark Force is but a physical projection of the Profound Darkness. The whole purpose of Dark Force is to release itself from its dimensional prison. No more, no less.

Think of PSIV as a retcon, and it will make perfect sense to most fans.

I don't hate PSIII, but it has arguably been retconned in 1993 when IV was released.
