Similar to what I said about Myau...if Noah doesn't get leveled up to the point where he can use the OPEN spell, there's no way to get into Bays Malay. You could hypothetically kill Alys in the first dungeon and never revive her, and still progress. Not so with Noah.

OK here me out here.

Lutz has a terrible attack and very weak defence. On top of that suck salad he has low hit points. Yes he has the best magic, but his MP isnt high enough that you can afford to cast his stronger spells outside of boss fights. Your going to spend a lot of time healing him and retreating back to a church to revive him far more often then the other 3 party members.

Face it, if there was 5th choice of party member in PS1, Lutz would have been the one riding the pine.

As for Alys. She is your best damage dealer all through the early game and has so really good combo moves with other party members. When she dies, I feel that the party as a whole gets weaker just like Nei in Phantasy Star 2. Although unlike PS2, Alys loss is covered by Kyra later on.

Hmm...maybe I have Alys ranked too low?

Her lack of curative magic hurts. It is a big plus that her attack damages all enemies, but her attacks aren't all that powerful. Noah's WIND and THUN spells are huge, particularly against Lassic and Darkfalz.

Personality wise, Alys is almost as much of a badass as Sari. Almost.

Edit: the Darkfalz fight in particular...Odin has a 100% hit rate with the Laser Gun, Myau is used for healing and would miss a lot otherwise, Alis misses a lot...so Noah is pretty important in that battle.

Argh, I want to vote, but I'm torn between the choices.

Alys is quite useful because she damages all enemies, and Vortex focuses the damage on one enemy. Good offensive Techniques, too.

Noah's magic is quite useful, but as said earlier, some of it costs quite a lot of MP, which limits its usage by a lot.
