Postby Nameless » Thu Jan 09, 2014 8:56 pm

OK , I'm looking into doing a speed run for PSIV (non-tas) Single Segment .
You will be able to watch most of my attempts live at http://www.twitch.tv/BlackChaosX12 .
Just follow the channel to know when I will be live!

Please discuss possible strategies here .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is it, exactly, that you are trying to do? Just beat the game as quickly as possible? There's no magic potion, unless you want to cheat and skip parts of the game...

Any strategies that would pertain to speed up the game and skip segments if anyone here knows any .
Without the use of cheat devices/emulator glitches.

The idea of a speed run is to finish the game as fast as possible using glitches and in some cases manipulating the Random Number Generator.

Hmm...

The only thing I can think of is to skip everything that is optional, such as the Hunters Guild jobs, the Weapons Plant on Dezolis, and the Anger Tower on Rykros. I've never tried skipping Krup altogether early in the game to avoid meeting Hahn's parents and fiance, but you could try that. I'm also not sure if you HAVE to go to the Plate System to stop the earthquakes in Monsen. I'm pretty sure you do, but I've never tried skipping it (maybe someone can confirm this?)

It will require a lot of skill, as you will be at the absolute minimum level, and won't have as much money for new equipment and whatnot. You will need to level up some, of course, but save as much of it as humanly possible for when you have Chaz, Rika, Rune, and Wren in your party. Don't screw around and make anything more difficult than it has to be. Use maps, and only get treasure that you think is absolutely necessary. Always remember to unequip everyone before they leave your party so you can sell their stuff and buy new equipment/healing items, as doing so will be faster than grinding (and you WILL need plenty of Monomate/Dimate/Trimate to get through if you aren't leveled up properly).

Finally, take Raja to The Edge. He makes the final battle the easiest.

The only thing that comes to mind right now is that if Chaz's attack is low enough, Shadow Blade's attack penalty makes the number roll under so it's in the 250s. The problem there is that Shadow Blade doesn't drop often in Zio's Fort.

Also, you would either have to run from virtually every battle, or it wouldn't roll into the 250s for long. And you may see him level up to the point where he loses that "bonus" just from necessary battles.

And, would a low level Chaz with 255 attack, mixed with all low-level characters, be enough to finish the game?

You COULD do the Alys Trick, but that would involve a Game Genie code. It's fun, though.

What could be done is get a shadow blade , kill off chaz till boss battles so he doesnt gain experience.

You COULD do that, but I feel like a) he'd die almost instantly in boss battles because his other statistics would be so low and b) if he did stay alive during the boss battles, he'd gain too much experience and lose the underflow attack power of 250+. Not only that, but the other characters would either be too weak to stay alive during boss battles, or you'd have to spend almost as much time grinding as you normally would.
