Best phantasy star I - IV memories.

Mine was when I first beat PSIV.

It was a saturday night , sleepover with my best bud .
It was 2:00 AM , He was playing DooM 64.
I was playing PSIV on my emulator on my pc.
Being 14 at the time we were trying our hardest to beat as many games as we could .
Kind of a contest if you will.

I decided to abandon the competition as I was already on Rykros on a save and just wanted to see the climax.

His eyes gravitated to my screen as i was entering the Edge .
Wow that was a interesting place to be at 3:00 am .
Fueled by soda and sugary snacks.

He turned off the light in my room so the room would be funky .
When I got to the profound darkness the first thing i remember was the music and then it showing up.

At the time i beat the first form i didnt realize it would be a multi form boss so i thought that was too easy went to the washroom and came back and he said its still alive .

so i went at it again not winning this time as i used all my tech at the beginning .
so i tried again and beat the second one. it ended the same way but the music changed so i knew there was one more that would be hard.

sure enough i was right .
pounded at it with all the techs and hearing that music was just a bad ass tone really .

eventually i won after about 3 tries .

and it was 5:00 so my dad was going to work and he came in with a smile seeing what i had done and told me he did it when i was a kid and had to go to work the next morning on 0 sleep .

but thats my fondest memory of the original series so far.

Please feel free to share your memorie(s). 8-)

Haha! That's pretty wonderful! And, I might add, probably hard to beat.

I remember that we had some great times, playing PSII on my friends Mega Drive (Genesis for you Americans), but I don't recall any one particular incident like that.

I do remember, however, the feeling when we first got PSIV running on an emulator back in the days. That was pretty sweet (emulators were still not that good in the mid-nineties).

Oh! And of course the first time I ever played a Phantasy Star game! I ahve probably related this before, but I'll do a recap:
My brother had borrowd a Master System form a friend, and he was playing PS. I didn't know English at the time (at least not to speak of), so it was pretty inaccessible to me, but I was very captivated. So captivated, that I sneaked up to the TV when he was not at home and loaded his game and just walked around (I did know Load and Save). Unfortunately he was in Gothic, and I didn't understand the menus, so I couldn't really fight that well, but ended up fleeing all the time. In the end, I got to the lava grounds, and very nearly died, before comming to a dungeon where I definitely died.

I was very worried that I had messed up my brother's save game, but I hadn't. That was the real start of my phandom.

Speaking of English, I can probably thank PSII (my favourite in the series) for giving me an early start in learning the language...

Phantasy Star 2 was the first RPG I ever played (I was 8 or 9 when it came out) and my older brother got it for his birthday. At first, I really disliked it because I didn't understand the concept of an RPG and how random battles, auto-fighting, etc... worked. It was also the first time I ever was exposed to Japanese anime and the art style both intrigued and confused me.

However, I was 8, and getting a new video game back in 1989 or whatever ... was a BIG DEAL, so I played it anyway (I remember attempting to mark the physical map that came with the game whenever I got into a battle, thinking I could just avoid the spot and archive it on the map! LOL). The more I played it, the more I got into it.

I beat Phantasy Star 2 before my brother did (he eventually gave up on it), and I continued to play the game multiple times through out the years. It was THE defining video game of my childhood memories, and the one game that made me really, really obsessive about a video game. The story, to this day, is chilling and ageless. The soundtrack is embedded into my mind. The character sprites and noteable scenes in the story are etched in my psyche. When I Nei died, I cried. I remember, just having my jaw open and eyes peeled on the TV when that moment that Nei First was defeated, and Nei, as a result, also died.

The game recently came out on the Xbox 360 and I bought it out of pure nostalgia for it. I played it, but this time without the guide book, but since I had played it so obsessively when I was a child, I still remembered the general places I needed to go and things I needed to retrieve. The dungeons were oppressively difficult without the guide book (I was determined NOT to cheat and just beat it legit). On and off for about 2 years, I finally beat it again just yesterday. It was just as amazing as it was when I first beat it when I was a kid.

Great game, Sega.
