Who has tried traditional tabletop RPG based on Phantasy Star? Which systems did you use? What were your experiences?

Big Eyes Small Mouth, and Rifts work perfectly.
BESM is a casual thing really adaptable to whatever you want more or less...
Rifts was easy too because of the High Techageness and the magic and psychic rules...........the cybernetics etc. made it easy too!........youd have to play to see :)

My first try was for the Alternity system, which wasn't much popular at all, then I writen one for the d20 system some time later, which was considerably more succesful among Phan friends and even some people over the internet as feedback informed me. :)
I'd give you the url, but actually I'm writing a "Second edition" using a very altered version of the Thrash system, which will also incorporate a way more in-depth view of my setting as well as history and timeline of events as well as a GMing section. After I finish the second edition I may fix the d20 one with the corrected and expanded material from the 2E one, but I'm not really sure I'm still interested in working on the d20 one. As soon as I have it ready for display you'll know it. ;)
As for my experiences with it. I GMed a PS campaing some years ago using my d20 book and it was one of my most satisfactory GMing experiences, besides of it being the first chronicle I can actually finish, carried on from begining to end of the story (1 year running the campaing). Back when I writen the d20 book Episode 2 hadn't been released yet and I had no idea the Book of Hunters existed so I didn't know PSO had officially nothing to do with the original PS saga, so I used my story to bridge a gap between the two revolving around an old pet theory of mine about the "Ruins" starship from PSO being Starship Noah and how it was set on course for Ragol.
Also I have a second story revolving on my head, this one considerably shorter and addressed mostly at old PS Phans, but I'd need to re-assemble my old gaming table to run it, no use to run that campaing without Phans. I'm considering however using that story for an RPG Maker videogame, but that's still a long way to go. :)

I like the idea of using BESM. A rigid class-based system like d20 might not be ideal for Phantasy Star, at least if you want to have all player characters balanced.
Fuzion is dead but my brother whipped up a few rules for a Fuzion-based Phantasy Star game which can be used to play in any one of the PS settings.
http://b3ed.tripod.com/
ROMeo, could you provide a URL with information on the Thrash system? If not, tell us a bit? And why did you choose to use it?

The Thrash' main site seems to have moved (can't find its current location yet). But here's my Thrash' site meanwhile with my home-flavoured version of the game (which I alter further for the PS setting).
http://www.angelfire.com/va/virtualadepts/thrash.html
Thrash is precisely, in words of his creator, a Fuzion-bred system with heavy emphasis in combat, while my modifications rather intend to remove some emphazis from hard-core combat, and the further modifications I'm doing for PS rather lean a bit towards Alternity (but not quite).
I chosen Thrash because of its Gurps-like versatility, I know it since its very early days so I feel quite comfortable with it, besides of being a system with much of the nature of anime built-in (something most Japan-born settings need).

Thanks ROMeo, I'll check it out. Fuzion is rather simplistic and so it can often be very bland. Does Thrash stay generic yet still have a lot of flavor to it?

I want to try a PS campaign, but I've yet to rejig the d20 rules to fit my style.
I'll do it at some point.

Did........you just put D20, and PS in the same sentence , involving an incorporation of the two....are you mad?
D20 should seriously be removed from the shelves, put in a big pile at WOTC HQ, and lit on fire. It is .......asl;dkfj;kljasd;f2yh4aelrjha;dkj Thats what it is. >_<
use Rifts, honestly it has the best results from what ive seen if youre into the thick rulebooks
if youre lazy, bust out a BESM rulebook its about 85 pages or something. You can learn the game in 30 minutes, and basically.........thats it.
We did an FF1 campaign with BESM, and basically i just used the strategy guide as the adventure module. ......tried it with newer games like, FFVII for example. then we realized, strategy guides have slowly evolved from navigatable, to frigging demented.
OH and btw, anyone else see those star wars M&M minis dispensers? Theyre sweet. I got the C3PO one for easter from the ladyfriend, and..............everyone needs a star wars M&M dispenser.

Heh, actually the main reason why I decided the next version of my book would be with the Thrash system was that one of my players dislikes the "experience levels" system (the rest of the players pretty much go along with what I use atm). Also I felt I left Thrash abandoned for a good while, and having been among the first to write additional material for the game I felt like going back.

d20 is good for D&D and that's about it. I would not recommend using it for Phantasy Star. However I have tried the Palladium system (RIFTS) for a different game and found it quite distasteful. I wouldn't use it for anything!

A couple of years ago I put up a PS campaign using GURPS, well, it was an hard task to put all togheter but in the end it was a partial success. Partial because the players dumped the campaign after a couple of sessions, because, in the end, they weren't interested in learning a new rpg system, and wanted to stick with the horrible d20 system.
BTW i still think that GURPS is a really good and flexible system, too bad I can't find anyone whishin to lean it... Maybe my "friends" are just too lazy to learn from englesh written rule books (I'm italian BTW).
Maybe one day I will realize my dream, but for now I have nor the players nor the time to put up a new campaign.
