Phantasy Star Generation:1/2 English Translations

Postby xrick » Wed May 26, 2010 9:02 am

Hi everyone. I just would like to know if there's anyone currently working on an English Translation of PSG:1/2, since it would be awesome.

Also, I know of a brazilian group that is on the move, and very nicely...

I don't know much about how it's going, but here's a link that ought to point you in the right direction. :)

My bet would be on the brazilian team. I know that they have made some amazing progress. Maybe Orakio Rob can update us here? He is currently working with the team.

He's been doing a Board Diary of his PSG:1 gaming these last few months. Try talking to him to see if he wants to leave some news here with you guys.

Here I am :)

The link provided above is of a RPG Maker version of PSG1. I've already talked to this guy. Anyway, seems like he is doing a great job.

Regarding the PS2 version, yes, we are working on translating it into Portuguese. A friend of mine managed to break the compression applied to the code and extracted the script; then another friend translated the script from Japanese into Portuguese.

What I'm doing right now is: I'm playing the game with the separate Portuguese script on my computer. As I get into new towns, I review the script, make a few corrections and rewrite some sentences. I've been kind of busy lately, but I always play at least a few minutes every week, and post my progress every monday on my retrogame blog, Gagá Games. You may check the whole PSG1 stuff here:
http://www.gagagames.com.br/?cat=594

I've just gotten to Dezoris, and that's where the translation process is right now. So, it's progressing slowly, but it is indeed going ahead. After I finish reviewing the script, a friend will create a patch.

Regarding the English version... well, I was already contacted by an interested party, and rest assured: I will provide them all the files and information necessary as soon as the Portuguese translation is finished. That means it may take some time, but it's definitely coming! :)

See guys, I told you he was going alright with it...

Also, Orakio, are you guys planning to go ahead with PSG:2 as well?
That would be sweet... :D

Well, who knows? We are willing to do it (and the compression is identical to the one used on PSG1, so there are no technical barriers), but I don't think I'll have the time to work on it.

You know, what with all the old console games being re-released as digital downloads everywhere you look, I truly find it baffling that no one at Sega has made this happen. At this point I don't even care about the third or fourth games being remade... just translate the ones that were already produced!

Maybe there's no money to be made, and that's probably what it boils down to, but still...

The third game in the series has been left out for a chance of a remake though.

(Game's non-canon anyway.)

Yeah, I knew that... I always thought tht was stupid too. In all honesty, while the fourth game was technically a better game than the first 3, I really only ever cared about the first two games being remade. They were my favourites probably because of nostalgia.

What's funny to me is that during the days of the SMS and Genesis (in America, at least) RPG's were a tough sell to the majority of players and yet the PS series made it. Now, in an era where RPG's are thriving, one of the franchises that paved the way for the genre can't get a proper sequel OR remake! Instead we get PSO. That's like a huge middle finger to the fans. But, that's just my opinion.

Well, at least that last remark of yours is on my mind as well...

Their need to innovate for the gamers is also a dumb way to please them.

Yeah, $DEITY forbid they move the franchise in a new, fresh direction. You'd only have a point if PSO was a sloppy attempt at reusing the Phantasy Star brand.

People prefer the old gameplay style of the original series to the reboots.
