People are always going on about how Sega is always shooting itself in the foot this past decade, but they never back up this statement. I understand that they've been re-releasing games for several years before they started actually making new things again, and people are complaining about Sonic games all the time.

But how they are faring as a business? They don't seem to be doing all that bad. People are exaggerating, as usual, because they like to complain.

No, it's because they've spent a lot of money supporting the company and have nothing worthwhile to show for it in return. Investing in Sony overall seems to be the smart choice for the consumer.

What are you talking about? The Dreamcast was a great console with many great games, many of them being from Sega themselves.

I can't imagine people investing so much into Sega after the Dreamcast was discontinued. They didn't seem to make that many games.

Investing into Sony? They've been doing horribly with their overpriced media center disguised as a console, and there's barely any worthwhile games to play on the PS3 that you couldn't play on the XBox 360.

Says a person vouching for the success of a dead hardware company over that of another who has just recently started gaining ground (albiet, not much. Nintendo is, and may very well remain, king of the consoles).

Hahaha, I should hire Benoit as a creative assistant. Always got a counter arguement. Which is better than having people agree with you all the time, if you ask me.

I was going to say something, but since it's only a rehash of what I said in my first post, I'll just direct you to re-reading it.

As a business? Of course they're not doing all that bad. Sega does much more than video games. I don't know what their biggest business is tho.

However, be realistic about this. Sega sold all their hardware technology to Nintendo. That means they would have to start from scratch with a new console. And the Dreamcast DID have MANY great games for the system, but nobody really noticed. Everytime I hear about those great Dreamcast games (Kingdom Hearts, Ikaruga, Phantasy Star Online are almost always mentioned in such lists), I hear about them as "Great games that people didn't notice because they were too busy with the X-box & Playstation 2.

Don't forget it was that generation of consoles where, after the Dreamcast went under (for poor sales, etc.), people started speculating that Nintendo "Is headed in the same direction as their former rival, Sega"

To this day I recognize no other company besides Sega as being a real competitor for Nintendo. As much as a new Console would be great to see from them, let's face it... we've got a better chance of seeing Dungeon Keeper 3.

God, I wish they'd make a D.K.3

I did just now. You're basically saying that they can't release a new console and that they repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot. This is all true (though I wonder where you got that Sega sold all its hardware technology to Nintendo), but you're talking as if Sega has never known success of any kind. The Master System (only in Europe, though) and the Mega Drive were successful systems.

Then what are we even arguing about?

As far as I know we were arguing about whether Sega could successfully release a new console. I divided my theory into realistically and theoretically.

And I remember reading somewhere that Sega, as part of their exit from the hardware industry, sold their hardware technology to Nintendo. In another segment (I really should try to remember where I hear this crap) I read that Nintendo used some of that technology in the Wii.

Sorry, I was thinking of Skies of Arcadia...

I know I'm gonna get slammed for this, but I really haven't played a Sonic game that interested me (or one he's been in, save Super Smash Bros.: Brawl) since Sonic & Knuckles.

Too bad for you. I guess you liked the horrible games better.

Wait, I get it; you're one of those who got their panties in a bunch because Sonic turns into a werehog, right?
