more intelligent gamers play RPGs?

The place to chat round the fire, share a tale, and just about anything else you'd like to do

No that's MMORPGs

I don't play World of Warcrap, although I'm still a bit of a shut in. The redeeming aspect of this is that I'm indubitably not a kiddy fiddler preying on 12 year old boys on the internet.

I wonder if it is possible to play WoW and not have a social life. With as many subscribers that could fill a country, how could you not meet people?

The game is still boring IMO.

I haven't played the game, so I cannot say it is boring or not. The only WoW I have played is Wizard Of Wor.

I played World of Warcraft, and I've not been bored with it. It's a lot of fun running around and doing quests, or finding a group of people to chat and RP with. It's hard to find a good RP guild, but I found one and it's awesome. A game like WoW is only as fun as the person makes it. If you're bored playing an MMORPG, then you're most likely a boring person with no sense of fun or imagination.

So, you're saying there's no such thing as a boring MMORPG?

I used to play Daimonin, but I got bored to the everlasting grinding.
Nowdays I sometimes play Netpanzer (not a RPG).
But I do play ADOM, and I'm considering to join one server were many players play.
Also BatMUD is kinda interesting.

I've played a lot of them, and I havn't played a boring one yet. I've played a few that didn't have quite a linear story line to hold my hand through my character's development, but they werent boring at all. In all games, there is always something to do. It's like the people who sit in a game like FFXI and go, "I'm bored." I say, "Go do something." There is a lot to do. You can go out and farm synth items or sellable items. You can craft, you can collect rare items, you can hunt a NM, you help newbies, you can EXP, skill up weapons, complete quests and missions.... these same things are in nearly every single RPG, MMO or not. How can they be boring if there are so many things inside them to do ?

Nate556, you seem to understand "boring" as "having nothing to do". That's only one aspect of it:
dictionary wrote:verb, bored, bor⋅ing, noun
–verb (used with object)
1. to weary by dullness, tedious repetition, unwelcome attentions, etc.: The long speech bored me.
–noun
2. a dull, tiresome, or uncongenial person.
3. a cause of ennui or petty annoyance: repetitious tasks that are a bore to do.

You can have a lot of things to do, but not be entertained or stimulated at all.

Meaning # 2 is exactly what I said. Meaning # 2 is what applies to people who are "bored" while playing MMORPG's. I think you are trying to use definition 3 in your argument.... But let me ask, What is the point of an MMORPG, or any other kind of RPG without tasks to overcome ?

Hmm, perhaps. But I've play many free trials in search of something interesting besides WoW. City of Villians was interesting at first, but I grew tired of it after a week and a half. Warhammer Online did not interest me for very long (felt a lot like WoW actually). Guild Wars (although amazingly pulled off a very detailed realm and mass quality without charging an online fee) felt dry after a short while. I even tried the abstract Auto Assault. That game didn't hold my attention either.

Yet I find super heroes cool, I enjoy playing games set in medieval/mythical realms, and I love cars. Boring person? I don't think so. Each one of those games are set in an open free roam world. Each one possess PVP, questing, weapon finding. Each one consisted of multiple customization options to HUDs, characters, and loot. And, each one consisted of a gameplay design that involves clicking hot-keys to watch semi-alright animations (IMO, CoV has some nifty animations. Being able to fly is cool too). I think it is this sit there and "hotkey" formula that turns me off of these games so quickly. Even the addicting Diablo 2 only held me for a couple months (probably due to its fast pace style that lacks grinding up until level 70).

This brings me to why I am at these forums in the first place. PSO/PSU provides an experience as far as gameplay goes that I find interesting. It has strayed away from th "hotkey" style and I suppose I am attracted to that. This is probably why I am a huge fan of Hunter PAs in PSU.
