PSII dupe trick

Postby Edless » Sun Feb 01, 2009 9:59 am

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since the dupe trick has been discovered in Phantasy star II but I didn't take time to replay the game... until now.

I tried it for fun and I enjoyed PSII like never before, thanks to that, the game becomes easier but is still harder than PSIV (to me), you don't have problem with money.
Aaaah, gosh! It's so good to enter a town and to be able to buy the top staff for your team, With that you can go on and fight ennemies without fearing them nor do you have the need to go and kill a thousand mosquito to be high level enough to not die.

What's to say.. since I got Shir, I made her steal immediatly (at level 1) the moon dew, shune boots, star atomizer, and fire staff (but couldn't have the visiphone yet... well I guess I'll need to level her up). Now I have a full team with back packs filled with star atomizer easy to replace, it saves a lot of time instead of having to go back to town everytime you run out of TP. More over, you don't need to cast 3 or 4 RESTA on the one guy you want to heal.

What's next? For now I can't wait 'till I get two nei armor, nei helmet and more importantly two nei slicer, it's gonna be fun!

Now that I know PSII and that we can cast techniques with items at will (I didn't know that the first time I played) I fell in love one more time with the game.

I'm creating the topic in order to know if you tryed the trick and how did you experienced it, on GBA or genesis, I think you still can do it one the Playstations but I don't know for the remakes.

If not, try it, I think you won't be disappointed.

(PS : I hope it's ok to talk about tricks on the forum, if not I apologize)

Star Atomizer? Resta? What?

To get Visiphone you have to have ten levels on Shir. :)

:) Yes I know for the visiphone, I was just wondering because some websites had it wrong and said that Shir had to be lv 10 to steal the good stuff (sol dew, fire staff visiphone) and I was thinking "well since they are wrong for the fire staff, they might be also wrong for the visiphone". but I couldn't prove them wrong on that one.

Actually, star atomizer and moon atomizer are the names used in the japanese version. In english that stands for as you can guess star dew and sol dew. (Now I understand the names used in PSO.)

I was also surprized when I first saw that they do not use the words escapipe or telepipe but something that could be translated into " the ocarina when you are lost" and " the ocarina of the trip" (thus the sound effect like an ocarina)

Ah. Now I get it.
But I've only seen Star Mist... Maybe you remembered wrong?

But anyway. What do you mean by this dupe trick?

The dupe trick is to be seen in phantasy star curiosities:
http://www.efkm.com/dezoris/pse.html

In short, it's about giving an item while pressing the cancel button. It's not that simple but it's not hard at all to do.
At first, I just wanted to see if the trick really worked but then it pushed me toward playing the game further. I got addicted to that method to solve the money issue the equipment issue or the star mist issue.

Thanks to that, I just finished the game with my party "fully nei equiped"
Yusis/Rolf with his Nei sword and Nei met.
Kain having also the nei met, Nei armor and two nei shields
Rudo with the nei armor and the nei shot
and Amia/Anna having 2 nei slasher.

Shir is now the one with the biggest DEF when equiped with two nei emel and a nei cape (too bad she cannot get the nei crown).

Anyway it's been a lot of fun for me and I'd advice that method to anyone who would like to play PSII but is afraid of its insane difficulty.

Since the original game has not been edited in its following adaptations it should also work on GBA, playstation 2 and PSP (and even on mobile phone) :)

Ah. That trick. Yes. I've been thinking playing PSII using that cheat.
It's like magick mirror - You can use it to copy items. :)
How many Storm Gears did you have after completing Blue Dam? ;)

That item copying cheat/trick really was pretty useful at times. Especially when it was about selling high priced items to buy the newest equipment for everyone. It sure made the game go faster though...

As for Shir, I remember reading some where that she steals equipment based on what characters you have in your party. It worked for me! I remember taking only Rudo and Shir (along with Rolf who can't be left behind) and having her steal a laser shot from the weapon store in the first try! It also made getting a fire staff for Amy faster this way.

Both of these things worked nicely for getting some quick cash, but overall the copy item cheat/trick worked faster as Shir doesn't usally steal from the first try.
Run for your lives! It's the huge sandworm that never reaches you!

Actually I had about 5 storm gear which is a bit too much considering I never use it with Anna or Rudo.

I also made too many Aegis and consequently, I also had my back pack full of recovery items.

Anyway, thanks to that, I also did the dams starting from green and blue and ending with the red one. That is something I loved about PSI and PSII : the fact that you could choose your way as far as you are high leveled or courageous enough.

I remember never actually fighting against Medusa with Mirror shield. I once went to get it later though...
