Abstract Phantasy Star enemies!

Postby Missagh » Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:22 pm

We all know that in RPGs, sometimes imagination can go to the surreal, and sometimes, to far... so, what is your choice of abstract PS enemy?

I guess I should start with the obvious one... the one and only: GRINDER!

He could be rather dangerous sometimes, especially when he is going mental with his ears. (notice slight sarcasm)

Haha, oh man the Grinder was indeed one of the funniest monsters I've fought in PSIII. Too bad they rushed the game though. Anyways, I would have to go with the Glowtoad also from PSIII as my choice of abstract PS enemy.

It honestly looks like a toilet.

hahaha, I will never see it the same after this...

But to think about it, is it not impossible that the PS III makers made the enemy specifically to create a subconscious message that "run to the toilet, as the next battle will be insane", or something along the lines of, "hey, its time to take a piss, its far left in this dungeon".

Best way to round this up is to display Mr Green:

PSIII is a cornucopia of surreal monsters. Cyclops, Grinders, Primus, Polebots, Floppers, and Orbs are just crazy.

But you gotta love this one: Image

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I forgot about that one. Hehehe, I believe what we must ask is, what the heck is it?

Dont tell anyone, but I did run across the Clone Clown Image yesterday and asked what the deal was but the only respond I got was: "Its youtube material."

It does truly get the prize, nice one Mono.

Well these cratures are rather ugly than abstract:

Anyway... Who got the idea of a rabbit playing with its bowel (I hope it's the right word in this case :P).

And these guys from PSIII:

This looks like a steampunk version of a bee. :) The brown one even more.

I've got BALLS to say that you're allowed to go to left or right only!

Sorry. You must fly or jump over to get past me!

Dark Force is kinda weird. Am I the ONLY one who noticed he has no lips, you can see his disgusting gums?!
I wonder what people will see in the final days?

The PSII Head Rot is also pretty strange.

Image

I couldn't find one when it (they) are attacking. The Mushroom opens the Carrier's skull and it attacks with its brain? Wha...? :?

Edit: This is why you shouldn't be making RPGs when under the influence!

The first time I saw this guy, I almost wet myself in fear of what he was going to do to me:
Image
Then he just wiggled his finger at me. Real frightening, that.

Along those lines, this one loors rather intimidating, what with that big sword and all, but in reality, he just glows at you. Ouch.
Image

I hated all the little star doodads that took SO LONG to attack you. If there were six of them on the screen, I could go make a sandwich and it still wouldn't be my turn when I got back.

I do love PSIII, but I will agree with everyone who says the enemies sort of suck.

Some of PSII's enemies were just overly gross. I hate the frogs.

I like the graphics of most of the enemies, but the animations aren't that good.

Anyway. Most of the robot enemies in PSIII are quite strange looking...
But how about Mother Brain?
Image

Playing Mother Brain battle using BIG screen tv would result in some white foam with certain types of people.

I like how Mother BRain had the three planets inside her, like you see on the title screen.

I have yet to play PSIII but I have played I and IV and am working on II now. From what I can tell the enemies get weirder and weirder as the games progress until you get to IV, now don't get me wrong PSIV has some weirdos in it just not as many as the others.
