Ultimate Sega Collection.

So...apparently Sega is coming out with a huge compilation of Master System and Genesis games that will feature all 4 Phantasy Stars (among other great games).

Its not that expensive either...
PSO (GC) - NEO: HUcast LV 176
PSOBB Schthack (PC) - Redrian: HUcast LV 25
PSU (PC) - Neo: Male Cast Acrofighter LV 161 R.I.P.
PS0 (DS) - Neon: HUcaseal LV 82

Actually, the first Phantasy Star is not included. It's yet another Genesis/Mega Drive compilation. *yawn*

Sega's Website:

THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF CLASSIC SEGA TITLES. All the favorites are here including Sonic The Hedgehog, four titles from the Phantasy Star™ series, as well as three titles from the Streets of Rage™ series, to name a few.

What would the fourth game be?

Well, it's supposed to have some Master System and arcade games as unlockables. The first Phantasy Star could be among those.

I doubt that, as it would mean porting emulators just for some extras.

Hey, that's still not that bad a list... as always, they included altered beast and one ps game and sonic... but this also has Shining force I and II, two of my favorite Genesis titles. A list like this could keep one busy for quite a while.
I wonder what people will see in the final days?

Well someone screwed up somewhere. Perhaps they mentioned unlockable content they shouldn't have? Either way, don't put down the porting of it as an emulation. I'm sure many fans would enjoy having the entire series as part of this large collection.

There are far better compilations of Sega games, the Phantasy Star series included, in Japan, for the PS2. It's the Sega Ages series.

Well thats great, except for the part that only a select few were brought out of Japan (PS series not included). Also, Sega Ages is made up of individual Volumes, costing about $31 piece (in other words you get the Phantasy Star Collection alone for that price). For roughly the same price, you get this entire compilation. The upgrades in graphics for Ages should be no arguement because we all know that graphics aren't what make a game good.

Unless the PS Ages Volume improved on broken game mechanics or something along those lines, I don't see any major reason to pass this compilation up (if indeed it does come with PSI).

I know that most are Japan-only. That's not the point. They're great compilations of great games with tons of options added, and other extras. Some get an optional facelift, others don't. These are the compilations that should be released over here instead of the mashed-together ones we get.

For example, with the Phantasy Star compilation, you get the four main games in Japanese and English, all the PSII text adventures, the Game Gear games as unlockables, difficulty settings, walk speed options, more save slots, and an option to fix the LV99 bug in PSIV. I might have forgotten something.

If that's not a great compilation worth $31, I don't know what is.

I'm not really a PS fan so I don't know if any of those are worth it. Anyone else think these are good?

Thats fine then. I don't want to but heads over opinions. I personally think that Sega is putting together some of their best and I thought it was neat that it would include the PS Series.

Damn, I have a Genesis Collection that has pretty much everything on that list....except the Shining games. That's pretty tempting. I think I'll stick with the roms for now. Call me when they release a Shining Collection, with Shining Force CD and all 3 scenarios of SFIII.
