But comparing FF to PS? It's all in preference... I have friends who have played FF and when I tried introducing them to PS, they couldn't get into it. Lucky me, neither series was my first RPG, so I guess I can look at each on a somewhat balanced scale, even if I am leaning towards PS.

FF1: I never got far. I lost interest after using the dynamite or whatever to blow up the land bridge thingy... Battle system was awkward, not enjoyable, and many of the enemy sprites weren't impressive. I think the only thing I liked about the game was its music.
FF2J: Played this via emulator. Hated it, turned it off after a few minutes.
FF3J: See above.
FF2/4: Well, this game was interesting. Half the cast appears to die, but are really okay in the end (poor Tellah never comes back though). Cecil was emo (his DarkWave* hurt himself lol), even after changing from a Dark Knight into a Paladin with mediocre White magic. His self-doubt made him appear weak in my eyes; this is a theme that we will continue to see in later FF installments... And, I am the only one in my household who even bothered beating this game since no one else liked it, and I can't blame them. Sure, there was challenge in the difficulty, but there is little replay value in this. The only thing I liked in this game was when mature Rydia joins and when you get Edge -- I think they're cute together. ^_^
*note: American version of this game had skills/abilities removed from battle menu when selecting an attack, dunno about the European version though!
FF5: See FF2j & FF3j.
FF3/6: Best FF, in my opinion. Large cast of characters to choose from to create a customizable party, good story, and great music. However, the theme of the main character (Terra) having doubts about herself was -- while it was somewhat understandable with her amnesia and all -- still very annoying.
FF7: The most overrated RPG in existence. What to say about this game? How marvellous it was? Superb and grandiose? Nah... Let's not feed the fanboys praise for this pile of steaming crap. I suppose you could say that I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I loved the battle system, the materia, and the chocobo breeding! Each was fun, and with the chocobo racing alone I could play it for days on end. The music in this game was good, though Aeris' theme was totally taken from Celes' theme in FF6.

But the story...ugh. Terrible story, and it went to the shitter after Disk 1 (and Aeris' notorious death sequence). And Cloud? Emo! He had an identity crisis and spazzes out, though I did enjoy the parts where he hits/tries to kill Aeris.

Vincent...emo too (lol lucrecia, u r mai sin!!!1! =(((). Half the characters got on my nerves, so it wasn't enjoyable when you're forced to use, say, Aeris (she was cheap anyways, made it too easy). ... Yeah, I'll stop there.
FF8: It was a love story! ^__^ Hated the battle system though, but I dug the movie sequences; that WAS the reason why I forced myself to beat the game. The music wasn't memorable, other than "Eyes On Me". This game also has the worst plot twist
ever; "OMG WE'RE FRUM DA SAEM ORFANIJ!!"
I didn't play anything past FF8, but I wanna play FF9. I won't touch anything beyond that, since FFX and up look very, uhm ... stupid. Also, Tidus and Vaan have girl hair!! And Vaan wears MAKEUP!!!
LOL!!!!

Long post! 'Kay, enough ranting from me. :3
