PS1 & 2 remake in english?

Postby Noahlis » Mon Jul 07, 2008 2:33 am

Well i got a question: Is there a way to play to PS1 & 2 remake that was made for the Play Station 2 in japaness version but in a english version. I know some people talk about it but, i was not sure if there a way to play it in english? Even if the song seem weird in a "moderne" version the graphique seem cool! So it's like a goal for me do play to this game (but, learning Japenes is not a option). I heard they will maybe made a PSP version but in fact, i am not realy sure at all!

So if anyone know!...

There is currently no English version or official project to translate it as far as I know. You could try requesting for a fan translation at
http://www.romhacking.net/.

Although it will take awhile before they actually do anything. Not to mention that most of them have a rather bad temper... I just lurk there and wait for them to translate the games I want to play in English for the snes. One of these days, I'll learn how to translate/hack roms...

Sorry I couldn't be of more use. I would like to play the remakes in English too. We'll just have to wait and see if there will be a fan translation.

I can't imagine a very entertaining life where the highlight of my day is translating japanese to english for video games (not to mention the speech translation). So saying they're cocks is pretty much a safe assumption to begin with.

Probably don't get any either... Sad times indeed...

That's not necessarly true. We're all PS fans here, does that mean that the highlight of our day is playing PS games? I think not, same for them. It's just a fun hobby they have to help out fans who can't read Japanese. If it wasen't for them, a lot of great games such as Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean couldn't be played by us non-Japanese speakers. Rest in peace Dejap. You did a lot for us fans...

Also, they usally translate text, not speech. The Japanese voices are better anyways and they don't need to be in English since you can read the subtitle in english. Besides, a lot of the orignal game speech (spell names) are in english anyways. In ToP, only Cless yells his tech names in Japanese, the rest are in English. And again, the spell/tech/summon name is displayed above the screen in English.

I see your point, but Tales of Phantasia did get released for the GBA in English years ago.

Well yes, but it sucks! Just look on Google the difference between the Super Nintendo one which was never officially released in English and the GBA one. ToP for GBA has awful graphics, the snes one is a lot better.

Here, judge for yourself:

Dejap snes ToP translation screen shot:

As I said before, the snes one is a lot better than the GBA one... Dejap gave us a better quality game for free. Thank you Dejap!

DeJap didn't give you a game. They gave you a translation. And I find both versions pretty.

Saying a game sucks because you don't like its graphical style is pretty stupid, in my opinion.

I meant a translated game. Anyways, out of the two, which is better? The snes version of course. And I'm not just commenting on graphics, the snes version also had better music and story. The GBA one has a childish, sugar coated translation with cut out scenes. Why would you even bother with the GBA one when the snes one is better and free? Enix is not losing profits, there're making new and more popular games. They're passed the snes and GBA games. They're not even on sale anymore...

In conclusion, I understand what you mean BenoitRen. Your thoughts are noble but your views are flawed. You wish to help these companies by buying their games but the retro game era is over. You're not helping anyone anymore, you're just getting yourself ripped off by buying over priced old games which are avaliable for free. Heck, it it wasen't for Missagh, I wouldn't have been able to play any PS game. I got all the ones I have off of pscave a long time ago. Translators and rom hosters deserve our respect and appreciation. They use their own time to give for free to us fans without any profit for them while the companies shred us for any cash we have yet. I'm not going to pay $80 for some crappy GBA ToP when I can get the free and better snes Dejap translated one. If the stores want us to but their crap, they should at least make it better.

Don Miguel for example got in trouble but fought to make RM2k in English for free and legal download for us. Not, that's just plain noble! Anyways, we should probably stop here as we're getting a bit off topic. This seems to happen a lot on forums so I guess it's not such a big deal.

Damm! I understand that we are far from getting à version of this 2 remake! It's sad because the video on You Tube realy get me hype about it since i saw it 2 years ago. Well, Japeness language is so hard to understand (truly impossible for me). I will wait like the rest of us non-japenes. Thank,s for the answer!

Actually no. I just wanted to have the game, and I was glad that they finally translated it.

You can rant all you like how DeJap gave you their translation for free and how you can now play the game for free, but in the end you are still a freeloader. You basically 'stole' the game and put up your middle finger at the company because you don't like their last version of it. You're not Robin Hood.

If you don't like something, you just don't buy it. You don't steal it instead.

Overpriced? You're talking out of your behind here. The Phantasy Star games cost quite a lot of money back in the day because of the amount of text they had in comparison to the other games. These days you no longer pay such premium prices; it's all at the same price. Same for Tales of Phantasia. $40 is a normal price for a GBA game, and Phantasy Star Collection was just $30 for three of the games. Just because some games get re-released or were remade based on older games doesn't mean that they should be dirt-cheap.

Sheesh, the nerve.

Pfft, how many people download roms each day? I at least have the balls to admit I do. If I could read Japanese and if I had the money to buy the actual games, I certainly would but I don't. You make it sound like I broke into a store or hacked a site to "steal" these games. Please, they're available for free download at so many sites and I do actually own a lot of them such as Fire Emblem Blazing Sword/Sacred Stones, Sword of Mana, etc. If I like a game, I buy it. I hate the GBA ToP, but I love the snes one so that's why I got Dejap's patches. Plus I only download the ESPA or whatever approved games so it's legal (as the sites say). Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not some fanatic game theif... Overall, about 75% of my games are actually store bought and only 25% are roms. :)

Edit: It was ESA, not ESPA. Official site: http://www.theesa.com/
Games such as Zelda: A Link to the Past are ESA protected and illegal to download. However, games such as Der Langrisser are legal to download as they are fan translated and were never intended to be sold outside of Japan anyways. Pscave's roms are legal to download for example. :D

Downloading the ROM of a game that can still be bought is like breaking into a store and nabbing the game without the costs of breaking a window and getting the game's packaging. No matter how you turn it, you made the company lose a sale.
Danny wrote:Pfft, how many people download roms each day? I at least have the balls to admit I do.

It doesn't matter how many people download them. It's still illegal in the end, and often wrong.

Balls to admit it? Dude, everyone admits they download ROMs. Especially on the Internet. What gets me is the whole "fight teh powah" thing, like you're entitled to do this. Like I said, you aren't Robin Hood.
Plus I only download the ESPA or whatever approved games so it's legal (as the sites say).

What nonsense is that? It's illegal either way, rated or not. This is the same kind of lie as "delete it within 24 hours or it's illegal fo' real hurr hurr".

The goal of emulation is not to have all games for free, but to preserve the past games. It was never about "let's screw the companies who overcharge for this shit".
Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not some fanatic game theif... Overall, about 75% of my games are actually store bought and only 25% are roms.

That's good to hear.

Another reason I've download some roms besides the Japanese and price problems is because I can't find them any more. I remember four or five years ago, I searched stores, Ebay and other sites and I still couldn't find some game I was searching for at the time (I can't remember what it was though). I've seen on some rom sites, messages such as "ESPA approved". They said that only non-ESPA approved roms are illegal, in the end I'm not sure if they are but I hope so. The strange thing is that I have a friend who's computer is loaded with roms and his father is a cop. :?

I can see, and agree with, Bens point of view. But at the end of the day the fact is he was never going to buy the product, so it's not really stealing in that sense. He wanted an alternative version. That's like seeing a guy who rips most of Budwiesers forumla but changes it to suit his own needs. The can just doesn't read "King Of Beers".
