What PS are you partial too?

I'm not sure if I said this (probably) but I also prefer PSIII. Nothing can match the feeling it gives when playing. Had it more time in development, it could've easily dwarfed PSIV. It introduced many aspects that deserved more credit then the critics gave them. I feel that the game was largely underappreciated, most of which was not deserved.

I fully agree, LaconianShot. Not enough time and cartridge space were at fault.

PS3 just about qualifies as a phantasy star because of the identical stat system and battle screen, and the various references to PS1, 2 and 4 and the rappies. it's like there's this spaceship moving away from the Algol Solar System with a phantasy star on board it, and as it dirfts away, the Phantasy Star mutates. PS3 was like the last point at which it was recognisable as a PS. they saved PS4 by making it not a follow-on from PS3, but PSO...
PSgaiden was kind of an anomaly. it wasn't a Phantasy Star. that's not how you use skills and techs, dummies. you're giivng your weapons to the wrong people. and that is NOT Alis. i think PSGaiden was a kind of trial PSO.

The Phantasy Star games don't have to take place in Algol for them to be Phantasy Star. PSIII carries the same message as all of them...humanity can do awful things. PSO carries that message as well. Phantasy Star didn't "mutate", the people of Alissa III backslid into a feudal society after the Layan/Orkian wars.

they saved PS4 by making it not a follow-on from PS3

Had they elaborated on the systems and ideas that PSIII featured, they would have a far better game then what PSIV is. That is, figuratively speaking. You may have meant a continuation of the story line, which also would've been alright, but I figure that PSIII made it's point, and shouldn't be continued lest it lose it's impact.
And what was wrong with Phantasy Star Gaiden? It was like PSI all over again. Basically, many things made it the same, and it wasn't a half bad game storywise either.

Saint Alis would NEVER let her cyrogenically frozen body rest on some backwater side-quest of a planet!

Your blatantly inaccurate opinions lead me to belive that you've never played PSIII or PSG. Alis wanted to go to Copto Planet...she wasn't forced. And PSG actually made some sense, though I doubt you ever bothered to play it.

I hate to sound like a softie, but PSIV made me cry at the end. I think it was because at that moment, I had no idea that they were possibly going to bring it back to the new systems, and I didn't know about PSO yet.

I will find my notes about PSG, copy and paste it every time someone says PSG doesn´t make sense until someone reads it.

PSG is the whole reason Algo has techniques...so it does have some relevance to Phantasy Star. It's also where Lutz got his precious Psycho Wand.
