i feel sorry for Daughter... (poss. spoilers)

she thought she was in control of an entire solar system, but really she was a prototype in a basement somewhere. then she wakes up and finds out that all the AIs under her control have gone rogue, and as far as she knows, are destroying Algol. then this random android comes along, destroys her defense systems and forcefully deactivates her after telling her she is a prototype.

couldn't Wren have reactivated it later, after changing its security privelages, and given it a small section of Algol's systems to control? it wasn't its fault it was left to rot in the vahal fortress. it was clearly still useful, if only because the weapons it was producing far exceeded the ones Nurvus and Zelan could produce. i can see how it might cause problems if it's actually a Motherbrain 2, but surely if the Earthmen are gone, they can't manipulate Algol through it.

i feel sorry for all the androids in PS4, come to think of it. Wren and Demi are constantly talking about how humans are slowly needing the environmental systems less and less, how they will become obsolete. by Wren logic, this means he has to deactivate himself. i hope that he eventually finds himself an identity outside his usefulness to humans and lives his own life, like the CASTs of Parum... okay maybe not like the CASTs of Parum, they're mostly android-supremacist gun nuts. but you know what i mean. I don't see why she couldn't be reactivated later. She could certainly be of help. In Neilast's Beyond Algo saga, she is in charge of keeping the whole solar system's network up.

I would generally be against the idea of another Mother Brain type system, simply because one of the lessons of PSII was that over-reliance on technology can lead a people to rely on that technology for their very existence. The Algolians didn't just use technology... they trusted and relied upon it to the point where they couldn't live without it. They were slaves, to it's will.

There also comes the matter, too, that even if the Earthlings weren't controlling Daughter - then what if someone else seized control at a later time? It would be the same situation all over again... Imagine if Daughter were completed and had taken control of all of Motavia's systems.. and then Zio somehow managed wrest her under his control?

Daughter is a bit of a tragic character, but her existence isn't necessary or prudent. Since Mother Brain's destruction, Algolians have learned to stand on their own two feet again.

And yet the possibility of Daughter's reactivation leaves a whole other slew of really interesting philosophical conundrums. Enough to even possibly make another Phantasy Star game off of...
