Discuss anything related to the Phantasy Star series

My Website

For the past few weeks, I've been doing work on my website and learning HTML along the way. It's all dedicated to PSIII, the "black sheep" of the main series.

Here's a link in case anyone's interested:

Not much in terms of content, but I have been pretty busy lately.

Peegai passed the link to me earlier today. I've just taken a good look.

I like it, especially the characters section. The information you've gathered on them is interesting. The lay-out is nice.

Being a fairly experienced web designer/developer, I'm also going to comment on the design and the HTML and CSS...

Designwise, I can understand that you went for a frameset. Seems easy, with a menu on the right at all times. They are better avoided, though, as they are bad for accessibility.

Your HTML pages are lacking a DOCTYPE at the top. I recommend HTML 4.01 Strict. Without a DOCTYPE, browsers assume your page consists of tag soup from '98. Results are unpredictable, as each browser handles Quirks Mode differently.

You're using a lot of presentational attributes and tags in your HTML. HTML should describe the semantics of the content, and CSS should be used to style it.

Regarding your CSS file, you seem to assume that it replaces part of the <head> of your page. This is not the case. You're also using proprietary CSS. The various scrollbar ones and the filter one are IE-only. You should remove the HTML tags, the JavaScript and the non-standard CSS from it.

If you need help with HTML/CSS, just ask me.

Thanks for the advice. ^_^ I'll look into that stuff tomorrow and try fixing it up.

Nice info for the characters but I personally don't like the design but I do understand it is a new site.

nice review Benoit.

I checked through the site and find it well made even though its early progress. About the design I must say that I do find it good with the simplicity. Nowdays when you visit a site, its bashed with hightechs and stuff so nice to see light graphic one.

What I personally found interesting was the remake. Could you please tell me more about it and how the progress is atm? You might want to look into the already made PS III remake (of rhys adventure). I contacted the creator of that fan game and he has accepted it to be added her, should be up tomorrow.

All and all, looking good and will place a link when I update the links page of PS Cave.

EDIT:

Its back alive :D

Thanks. Seems I'm getting mixed opinions, here. xD

I wanted to go with something simple... Keeping it simple, as a pretty site isn't any good if the content's lacking.

Oh, certainly. I'll PM you since I dislike giving too much away in the early stages. ;)

I've glanced at other PSIII remakes (including the newest one I've found) and they bother me. The only decent remake that was being done awhile back was cancelled, (the website can be found on internet archives) so that rules out the possibility of anything nice I've seen. :|

I know I shouldn't criticise, but when you see sprites that are used from a PSX RPG Maker game in place of the characters...yeah, how creative is that? Of course, referencing the newest remake I've looked up. Honestly, I commend anyone who can do pixel art!

However, I'll take a look at Rhys's Adventure since I don't think I've tried that one yet...

All and all, looking good and will place a link when I update the links page of PS Cave.

That's sort of like an honor in itself. Thanks for the add! ^_^

Indeed! I know that still has to be fixed... I'll get around to it tomorrow.
