Look how many great games never make it over here because the companies don't think American consumers would understand them!
One company that comes to mind is Namco, who refuse to bring over any of their PS2 "Tales" titles... wtf?!?! Reading on other forums, it seems to be widely believed that the only reason Tales of Symphonia was brought to the US was because it was on the GC and Nintendo *wanted* badly to bring it over.
I dunno, I just don't have much faith in the majority of the Japanese companies and their opinion of American (or should I say Western) gamers.
Of course time will tell...

All i can say is that since Sammy merged with sega and the sammy side of the company is running the show, things SHOULD be different. Sammy now has access to RPG IP that they never had before and they're more sensible in business than SOA ever was. They know that RPG is big money in the west as well as the east and the fact that the game is made off the cheap should hopefully make it more easier for them to invest money for a translation. Sega can't really start to give any potential franchise away to anyone else but like you say time will ultimately tell.
