Looks like 3D Ages is doing more than just updating the graphics on this remake.
http://ages.sega.jp/df/home.html
http://the-magicbox.com/0501/game050130a.shtml

[Edit by zoothe on [TIME]1107146655[/TIME]]

Heh, looks pretty good. Too bad it's only the first one. The second one was so damned good! I hope they use some of the mechanics from the second one in this remake.

The over view of the overworld looks like a mix of Shining Force and Civilization

Hope they remake and bring over Dragonforce 2.

Me too... I have DF2, but only as part of my RPG collection... and I'm only beginning to learn Japanese now so it will be a while before I'll be able to play it I guess.
Oh, BTW, I e-mailed Working Designs about the remakes (since they expressed great interest in bringing it over) and this was their response:

We would love to be able to re-release Dragon Force on a new system so
that others could enjoy the game. Whether that will come about depends on
the original developer of the game.
If you have any other questions, please email us.
Thank you for your support!
Working Designs

I hope to god they won't. Sega needs to promote their RPGs themselves and now that Sammy is in control and a bit more sensible than Sega when it comes to business they might bring the Sega Ages RPGS out into western countries themselves.
I also think that the remakes are an indication that certain titles might return. DRAGON FORCE was quite popular on the Saturn in japan so it might be a way to test the waters until the third installment comes out.
I'm crossing my fingers for the remake of RIGLORD SAGA 2 and SHINING FORCE 3 and hopefully show up over here as well. These games are costing Sega next to nothing
to make and releasing them/translating them ain't gonna set them back.

And Sega is actually collaborating with D3 in these remakes? They formed a company soley to churn out these remakes called 3dages. Besides we have the first collection based on the first batch of Sega Ages games ready for release in america which Sega of America is handling. A rumor is that the ps2 will see a new PHANTASY STAR collection at the end of the year based on the single release remakes from japan. Because Sega recently intergrated the Manegement of SOA and Sega Europe It means that they are one company now than seperate divisions. No more SOA bullishit. So it might mean that Sega RPGs might get released in the west more than they use to.

[Edit by Gboy on [TIME]1107437821[/TIME]]

3D Ages isn't a Sega company, it was formed by a company called D3.
Also, from what I've been reading around the net, Sega has little to nothing to do with the development of these remakes.

I stand corrected. Way to go Gboy. ~_~
Another thing you might want to take into consideration is that it wasn't Sega who brought the original Dragon Force over, it was Working Designs. This tells me that if it weren't for WD, Sega itself would have never brough that Saturn game over to the US. And if it's in Sega's hands now to decide whether or not to translate the remake, it seems doubtful that they'll do so.
[Edit by zoothe on [TIME]1111100309[/TIME]]

Yeah well everybody knows that being a long time Sega player. To me it's still a Sega game regardless of who does the publishing or translation of that Sega game to America or Europe.
I shall wait and see about the new remakes of DRAGON FORCE. Were talking about a new Sega of America now which is japanese controlled. I would say it's more likely that they will bring it out themselves than it was back in 96 but I won't hold my breath.

The term "new Sega of America" does bring hope... but am I alone in feeling that as a whole, Japanese game companies don't think very highly of the American players? Look how many great games never make it over here because the companies don't think American consumers would understand them!
One company that comes to mind is Namco, who refuse to bring over any of their PS2 "Tales" titles... wtf?!?! Reading on other forums, it seems to be widely believed that the only reason Tales of Symphonia was brought to the US was because it was on the GC and Nintendo *wanted* badly to bring it over.
I dunno, I just don't have much faith in the majority of the Japanese companies and their opinion of American (or should I say Western) gamers.
Of course time will tell...

Sammy now has access to RPG IP that they never had before and they're more sensible in business than SOA ever was. They know that RPG is big money in the west as well as the east and the fact that the game is made off the cheap should hopefully make it more easier for them to invest money for a translation. Sega can't really start to give any potential franchise away to anyone else but like you say time will ultimately tell.
