Agreed.

Perhaps I shouldn't have said what I did due to the fact that the internet lacks tone. Allow me to refrase:

I will not treat a forum like a University Essay.

Why you may ask? I for one like to think of the internet as "down-time" in order to get away from all the stresses of school.

The lack of standardization is irrelevent because it is not the PC that changes, but the OS.

Wrong. You have different sound cards, different video cards (ATI and nVidia, plus all their models), different motherboards, different gamepads, and who knows what else I forgot.
So, what difference is there to play a game on a Linux OS than a Windows OS if the PC parts are going to be the same? A PC will perform the way the hardware permits it and the hardware is determined by the user (Gaming).

A big difference. The OS is a major software component. It's what handles communication with the hardware. Those interfaces are going to be different, drivers are going to be different, etc.
What peripherals? USB slots?

No, the keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Not everyone buys their PC at Walmart.
As for cost, I believe it is a small price to pay

Small price?! It's not cheap at all! Not for someone who doesn't have a job. Sheesh!
If the cost of a controller is too much for one to handle then that is their problem. Jobs aren't exactly hard to come by these days.

A problem that doesn't exist with game consoles! And jobs are hard to come by. I know it, my brother knows it, my mom and dad know it. You're spouting bullshit here.

If you always strive to type properly, it becomes second nature, and not stressful or hard at all. Being lax on the Internet with grammar/spelling means weakening your grasp on it, which will have consequences when formal writing is required. I've seen it happen more than once.

Not if they are built to do the same thing. I'm sure ATI and nVidia don't call each other up and plan out who is going to make the next strongest video card so that the other doesn't have to compete.

A big difference. The OS is a major software component. It's what handles communication with the hardware. Those interfaces are going to be different, drivers are going to be different, etc.

A game developer can still (if chosen so) to design a game for another OS. Like you said, the OS communicates with the hardware and your hardware will decide whether or not it wants to talk back.

No, the keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Not everyone buys their PC at Walmart.

Oh please, if you want to buy a PC and can't afford that stuff then why would one even bother.

Small price?! It's not cheap at all! Not for someone who doesn't have a job. Sheesh!

Ha, it just occured to me that what I said stretched only as far as North American borders perhaps. I can't say that I understand your situation in your country. I can't assume that your family is lazy. I can't assume that your standards for a job are too high. You can't say I was sprouting bullshit because I could walk down the street and get a job if I needed one.

Now its my spelling? Hahaha! You make me laugh Benoit! Allow me to throw in my two cents...

Who knows you even need WGA to be able to download those drivers. That's another extra requirement.

You forgot the word "may" inbetween "you" and "even". If you were asking a question, then you forgot one of these ---> ?

standardisation.

True, but I have just shown you that mistakes will happen. Now stop trying to strengthen your arguements my attacking spelling and grammar.

...You don't understand. The cards have a different architecture, and need different drivers. Video card manufacturers also pay big bucks to game developers to make their game work best with their latest whiz-bang card.
A game developer can still (if chosen so) to design a game for another OS.

In theory, yes. In practice, no. There's a Windows monopoly.
Like you said, the OS communicates with the hardware and your hardware will decide whether or not it wants to talk back.

Um, no. Hardware doesn't think. It doesn't lock out OSs either. I don't think you know how this stuff works.
Oh please, if you want to buy a PC and can't afford that stuff then why would one even bother.

Again, not the point. They still add to the price.
You forgot the word "may" inbetween "you" and "even".

Touché.
If you were asking a question, then you forgot one of these ---> ?

I wasn't asking a question.

There is another continent besides America where they speak English. It's called Europe, and the country is the United Kingdom. There they speak British English, and I use their spelling for most things. So my spelling is just as valid.
True, but I have just shown you that mistakes will happen.

Mistakes are one thing. But inserting apostrophes everywhere is not a mistake. It is ignorance of the language rules concerning apostrophe usage.
Now stop trying to strengthen your arguements my attacking spelling and grammar.

Who said I was trying to? It's just something on the side for me.

The point was the difference between power of hardware. Video games don't require you to absolutely need a 512MB video card made by ATI. A 512 from nVidia well get you the same results.

In theory, yes. In practice, no. There's a Windows monopoly.

Which is exactly why I said we can rule out Windows as a requirement.

Um, no. Hardware doesn't think. It doesn't lock out OSs either. I don't think you know how this stuff works.

Personification and Metaphor.

Again, not the point. They still add to the price.

Fine, and maybe Nintendo will start selling the Wii without a controller for $30 less so that those who are purchasing one can save a bit of money.

Fair enough. I personified PC by giving it possesion of freedom, therefore it deserved an apostrophe. Perhaps that is wrong in Europe, but we can accept it here.

Who said I was trying to? It's just something on the side for me.

Have fun with that.

Um, no, we were talking about standarisation of hardware. Read the previous posts.

No, we can't. Windows still costs money. GNU/Linux is free.

Same with all the kids and college students who can't write a decent paper anymore.

When standards become lax, society suffers.

For most people, their first PUBLIC appearance on the net is usually in ALL CAPS, BAD SPELLING, 1337 speech and what does that tell you about a person?

What about cleaning or factory jobs? You can't say they're not available UNLESS (emphasis on "unless") they're careers which are beneath your standards.

People who are educated do shitty jobs all the time: look at the Poles, for example.
