Notes On The Timeline

Revised January 15, 1998.
We, Jim Maxlow and Michael Ripplinger, spent a good portion of the summer
of 1996 exchanging a series long email threads in which we hammered out
what you now have presented to you as the Phantasy Star Ultimate
Timeline. There is a lot of information contained within it, and so, in
order to make everything clearer, we have created this page of notes, to
guide you in understanding our theories. As a caveat, all our designs
are built around the events depicted in the American versions of the
Phantasy Star games, meaning they are not necessarily reconcilable with
the original Japanese versions.
Calendars:
The Phantasy Star series presents us with two calendars throughout the
four games. The first, presented in Phantasy Star I, is called
"Space Century." We learn of it in the game's opening narration, which
dates the game at "Space Century 342." (The back of the box dates the
game at Space Century 3240. Needless to say, we consider this a typo and
take the actual text of the game over the packaging.)
Phantasy Star II and Phantasy Star IV, however, present us
with a new calendar. They refer to events as taking place in the year
"AW XXX." Phantasy Star IV takes place, according to the game, in
AW 2284, which is equal to an Earth date of 4370 (more on this
translation below). This would mean that the AW calendar was started in
the Earth year 2086, 71 years before the date we have given to the launch
of the Earth spaceship Noah. Therefore, we believe the AW
calendar is a new system of dating designed to reflect the massive
changes Earth goes through as the environmental disasters aluded to by
the Earthmen in Phantasy Star II start to take place.
So, within this timeline, each event is dated three different ways:
- Space Century (SC): This is what we believe to be the standard
calendar used in the Algo solar system until sometime after the arrival
of Mother Brain, who puts Algo onto the Earthmen's AW calendar.
- Earth year (EY): The standard Gregorian calendar in use here on
Earth today.
- After W-- (AW): See above.
Plotting the Events:
The dating system used to calendar events in the PSU Timeline was created
based on two main assumptions:
- First, we know from the game itself that Phantasy Star I
takes place in "Space Century 342." Presuming that there is a way to
examine individual years within each Space Century, we have assumed that
the full date of Phantasy Star I is Space Century 342.00. Just as
we would call the number 2.00 simply "two," we believe that the date
presented in the game has been similarly rounded.
- Second, through an elaborate series of conjectures, we have found a
way to translate the Space Century calendar into the Gregorian calendar
we use here on Earth. We theorize that the spaceship Noah arrived
in the Algo solar system 12 years before Phantasy Star I (SC
341.88) after a journey which lasted 203 years, meaning Noah was
launched from Earth in SC 339.85. We arbitrarily chose an Earth date of
2157 for Noah's launch. Knowing that SC 339.85 and Earth year
(EY) 2157 are the same, from there it is easy to convert dates from and
to either calendar.
Finally, using the above information, we can date Phantasy Star IV
at SC 361.98 and EY 4370, and since the date presented in the game itself
is in the AW calendar (AW 2284), any date from any of the calendars can
be translated to the other two.
All of this, of course, requires an even bigger assumption; namely, that
both one Earth year and one AW year are equal to one year on the Space
Century calendar. For simplicity's sake, we have made this
assumption.
Ordering of the games:
Okay, are you ready for this? According to our timeline, the events
depicted in Phantasy Star III actually occur after Phantasy
Star IV.
When we first started plotting out this timeline, we were rather
surprised ourselves to see this happen, but here's why we believe it to
be so. Phantasy Star II takes place 1000 years after the original
(SC 352.00). We know from Phantasy Star III that somehow, Dark
Force made it aboard one of the 400 enormous colony ships that fled
Palma. Dark Force then started destroying the ships one by one, until he
reached Alisa III, where, after instigating the Devastation War
between Orakio and Laya, he was defeated and sealed within the Sunken
Palace. The game itself then begins 1,000 years after this event.
We believe it took Dark Force five years to reach Alisa III,
meaning he arrived on board in SC 352.05. Assuming the Devastation War
lasted for two years, Orakio and Laya then defeated Dark Force in SC
352.07, which means Phantasy Star III opens in SC 362.07.
Meanwhile, Phantasy Star IV tells us that Wren is 998 years old.
We also learn that approximately 1000 years prior to the game, the system
suffered an event known as the Great Collapse, in which almost all
technology was lost and civilization was practically eliminated.
Therefore, Wren must have been created prior to the Great
Collapse. Assuming that Wren was created in the last days of Mother
Brain's existence (SC 352.00) and taking into consideration the fact that
we know Wren is 998 at the time of Phantasy Star IV, this suggests
to us that Phantasy Star IV takes place 998 years after
Phantasy Star II in SC 361.98. (And yes, Dark Force is only
supposed to return every 1000 years exactly, but the destruction of Palma
in SC 352.00 significantly weakened the dimensional seal enough to
allow the Profound Darkness to send three Dark Forces into Algo
two years earlier than normal.)
When you plot all that out, look what happens: Phantasy Star III
takes place nine years after Phantasy Star IV.
What's Missing?
Believe us, when we plotted out the Phantasy Star Ultimate Timeline, we
plotted out everything. Yet, when you look at the timeline,
several very significant events are left out. For example, the date upon
which King Lassic assumed power is not given. There is no mention of
Alis Landale's father, whom we know was once King of Algo. And we learn
from Phantasy Star II that Rolf is a descendent of Alis herself,
yet the timeline says nothing of Alis's life after Phantasy Star
I! All we can say is, we have included these events in the
creation of the timeline, however, because we wish to reveal them in the
course of our stories rather than just show them to you outright, we have
kept them [CENSORED] for the time being.
Characters:
Because it can be difficult to trace the life of your favorite character
within the context of the entire timeline, here we present "pull-outs" on
the lives of each game's major characters.
Phantasy Star I:
- Alis Landale:
Assuming that Alis is 18 at the time of the game, we plot her birth at SC
341.82, two years after the birth of her older brother Nero. In The
Epic, she tells Myau that she was raised on Palma by a foster family
after her parents, miners on Motavia, were killed in an accident. Based
on Governor Sirus's revelation that Alis's father was once King of Algo,
we know that this claim was not entirely true. Born to King and Queen
Ossale, she and Nero were hidden with a foster family on Palma, the
Landales, when their parents were taken by the Dezorians. When Alis was 18,
she saw her older brother Nero killed by Lassic's robotcops. This event
sent her on a quest to overthrow the king, which she did later that year
(SC 342.00). She also subsequently destroyed the Dark Force that had
emerged during that time, forever establishing her importance in the
history of Algo. As of yet, very little of her life past this point
is known, though we do know that she accepted Governor Sirus's offer to
become Queen of Algo, because in Agent's Destiny, Rolf refers to
her as "Queen Landale." We also know that she must have had at least one
child, because Lutz tells Rolf in PSII that he is Alis's direct
descendent. However, nothing is yet known about any offspring Alis
had.
- Myau:
We presume that Myau was five at the time of the
game, which places his birth in SC 341.95. Two years prior to the game,
when Myau was three, he met Odin and left his home, family, and people to
fight with him to free Palma. The pair was briefly seperated when Odin
was turned to stone by the gorgon Medusa, and during this time, Myau ended
up in a pet store on Paseo where he met Alis Landale. Myau helped Alis
Landale rescue Odin and overthrow King Lassic in SC 342.00. During the
course of the adventure, he was greatly traumatized by the discovery of
several slain Musk Cats in the laboratory of Dr. Mad. All we know of
Myau's life after SC 342.00 is that sometime in the future, he began to
reside in a cave on Dezoris known as Myst Vale, where he remained
permanently winged thanks to constant ingestion of Laerma nuts. Myau had
turned Myst Vale into a safe haven for Musk Cats, much like the Espers'
Esper Mansion (perhaps due, in some way, to the actions of Dr. Mad). We
do not know when Myau arrived in Myst Vale, but we know he was still there
at the age of 2003 in SC 361.98, at which time he gave his old weapon, the
Silver Fang, to Chaz Ashley.
- Odin:
Of all the PSI characters, the one we know the least about is
Odin. We have assumed he was 31 years old at the time of the game, which
means he was born in SC 341.69. He tells Alis and the others in The
Epic that he has vague memories of a time before Lassic. Sometime
before PSI (we assume two years before), Odin met the Musk Cat
warrior Myau and they traveled together. A very short time before the
game, Odin and Myau set off in search of Medusa because Odin sought the
mystical axe she was said to carry. Apparently, Odin did find the
gorgon because when Alis Landale first met him, he had been turned to
stone. Later, Odin did defeat Medusa and find the Laconian axe, a
weapon he used for the rest of his journey with Alis Landale. Though we
know it was Odin himself who delivered the killing blow to Lassic in SC
342.00, we know nothing of his life after he and the others defeated Dark
Force.
- Noah:
Our conjecture is that Noah is 20 years old at the time of the game
(though slightly younger than Nero Landale), giving him a birthdate of SC
341.80. Much of Noah's early life remains unknown, including how he met
Master Tajim and Governor Sirus, but it is assumed that Noah was born on
Palma and later moved to Motavia, perhaps as a result of Lassic banishing
all Espers from Palma in 341.98, at which time Noah would have been 18.
Master Tajim gave Noah the Frad Mantle, the cloak of Esper leadership, in
SC 342.00, though it is assumed he did not officially assume the role of
Esper leader until after Tajim's death, the date of which remains
unknown. Two years after overthrowing Lassic, in SC 342.02, he and the
assembled Espers built Esper Mansion on Dezoris. Around this time Noah
also blessed several weapons and pieces of armor with "Nei" or power,
creating "Nei" items for the mansion's protection. Thirteen years later,
however, in SC 342.15, Esper Mansion was destroyed by attacking Dezorian
soldiers. Noah used his magical power and that of the students he was
with at the time (the last surviving Espers) to re-build Esper Mansion,
though the incredible display of magic took away the powers of all but
one student and nearly killed Noah himself. Shortly thereafter, Noah
passed on the Frad Mantle to the one remaining student with powers, Lutz,
and then he died at the age of 35.
Phantasy Star II:
Notes: The Phantasy Star Compendium, a book published in Japan
and filled with information on the Phantasy Star series, gives exact
birthdates for many of the Phantasy Star II characters. Because
these exact birthdates conflict with nothing in the English versions of
the games, we have incorporated them into our chronology, though we have
adjusted the year of birth to coincide with our conjectured date of AW
1286 for Phantasy Star II.
Also, assuming Nei's "birthdate" of August 30, AW 1285 is the date in
which she seperated herself from Neifirst, we can, from there, plot the
date on which Phantasy Star II begins. Assuming the seperation
took place at Climatrol, and giving Nei two months to make her way to
Paseo, Nei must have met Rolf in early November of AW 1285, and because we
know that Nei lived with Rolf in Paseo for seven months prior to the game,
we get a rough start date for Phantasy Star II of early June the
next year. From this, we have arbitrarily decided that the Commander
assigns Rolf to retrieve the recorder from Biosystems Lab on June 2, AW
1286.
- Rolf:
We estimate Rolf to be 20 years old at the time
of the game, which gives him a birthdate of September 17, AW 1265 (SC
351.79). His father was Captain Grent Hansen, a space ship pilot, and his
mother was Kendel Hansen, a theorist who helped perfect the first
light-speed drive so that Algoians could explore outer space beyond their
star system. Very little is known about Rolf's childhood, except that
when Rolf was 10 years old, he was the sole survivor of ASC Flight 1000,
the first ship destined to launch itself into faster than light speed
travel and explore beyond Algo. The ship, Outworlder, collided
with a commercial space liner shortly after launch, killing Rolf's parents
and all others aboard, except Rolf himself, who was saved thanks to the
Esper leader Lutz.
After the tragedy, Rolf was adopted and raised by foster parents in Paseo
on Mota, and he became an Agent at age 18 in SC 351.98. The next year,
seven months before PSII, he met Nei in Paseo after rescuing her
from persecution at the hands of townspeople. In SC 352.00, Rolf was
assigned by the Commander to retrieve the recorder from Biosystems Lab.
This assignment ultimately resulted in a quest to find and destroy Mother
Brain, which Rolf did. One year later, in SC 352.01, Rolf learned from
Lutz of his Esper heritage and used his newfound power to defeat a
Dezorian telemental named D'zkot. Nothing of Rolf's life is known after
this point, though he did express a desire to leave the Agency and train
as an Esper full-time.
- Nei:
Nei was the product of human and animal DNA.
Originally, an accident at Biosystems lab in SC 351.98 created Neifirst,
an evil creature which served Mother Brain. However, the next year, on
August 30, Nei somehow separated herself from Neifirst and made her way to
Paseo, where she met the Agent Rolf. She lived with him for seven months
and came to look on him as a brother before she was killed by Neifirst
herself at Climatrol in SC 352.00.
- Rudolf "Rudo" Steiner:
We assume Rudo was 34 at the time
of the game, with a birthdate of July 1, AW 1251 (SC 351.65). (In fact,
he probably celebrated his 35th birthday sometime during Rolf's quest.) He
entered the Paseo Military Academy at the age of 18 (SC 351.83), and in
his junior year, he met Alizabeth Fromen. Two years after his graduation
in SC 351.87, he and Alizabeth were married. In SC 351.98, Rudo became a
father as Jennifer Steiner was born. Tragically, however, the next year
both Alizabeth and Jennifer were killed by Biomonsters when Rudo was away
from home on Army duty. That event prompted Rudo to become a Hunter, and
the next year, he joined Rolf's quest to destroy Mother Brain. Upon his
return from that quest, Rolf pulled strings and Rudo was allowed to become
an Agent, a position he didn't like much but held nonetheless through the
crisis with D'zkot in SC 352.01. After the New Order was destroyed, Rudo
expressed to Rolf his desire to leave the Agency and start a new life with
Anna Zirski. We know nothing of his life after this point.
- Doctor Amy Sage:
Assuming Amy is 23 at the time of the
game, her birthdate would be April 26, AW 1263 (SC 351.77). Nothing is
known of Amy's life up to her joining Rolf's quest to destroy Mother
Brain, but we do know that after this adventure was over, she and Hugh
Thompson moved to Esper Mansion, where they attempted to restore power to
the Half-Espers. She participated with the rest of Rolf's friends in an
assault on D'zkot's New Order headquarters ship in SC 352.01, after which
she returned to Esper Mansion to complete her work.
- Hugh Thompson:
We believe Hugh is 19 at the time of
PSII, with a birthdate of June 14, AW 1267 (SC 351.81). This makes
him the youngest PSII character, aside from Nei. He joined Rolf's
quest to destroy Mother Brain in SC 352.00 because he felt, as a
Biologist, he could develop techniques for defeating Biomonsters. Like
Amy, after this quest was over he went to Esper Mansion and attempted to
restore powers to the Half-Espers. Also like Amy, he helped to defeat
D'zkot's New Order and then returned to Esper Mansion.
- Anna Zirski:
We believe Anna to have been 24 at the time
of PSII, which makes her the second-oldest PSII character
with a birthdate SC 351.76. A limited number of events from Anna's
childhood are known. In SC 351.86, when she was ten years old, her family
vacationed on Uzo Island. During the trip, her older brother pushed her
into the water despite the fact that she could not swim. We also know
that, in her youth, Anna witnessed the brutal beating of a friend and saw
a boyfriend of hers murdered before her eyes by a Hunter (the latter being
the incident which prompted her to join the Guardians), but we do not know
specifically when these events happened. In SC 352.00, she joined Rolf's
quest to destroy Mother Brain, during which she met Rudolf Steiner.
Sometime in the year following this event, she assumed leadership of the
Guardians. Anna had an active role in the crusade against D'zkot's New
Order in SC 352.01. After this event, she expressed a desire to retire
from the Guardians and start a new life with Rudolf Steiner, but nothing
more is known after this.
- Josh Kain:
We presume Kain to be 20 years old at the time
of the game, with a birthdate of December 9, AW 1265 (SC 351.79). Nothing
is known of Kain's life until he joined Rolf's quest in SC 352.00 except
that he tried to be a Mechanic but broke everything he tried to fix. After
Mother Brain had been destroyed, Rolf saw to it that Kain received
Agent-quality Mechanic training and as a Mechanic he began work at the
Roron trash complex. Rolf recruited him in SC 352.01 for the crusade
against D'zkot's New Order, but after this event was over, nothing is
known of Kain's life.
- Shir Gold:
Agent's Destiny presents Shir as Rolf's
childhood best friend, which makes us presume she was also born in SC
351.79, though with a birthdate of April 1, she is slightly older than
Rolf, making her 21 at the time of PSII. We know that Shir's
parents were rich and that she received everything she wanted as a child,
so she turned to stealing for kicks. In SC 352.00 she helped Rolf to
destroy Mother Brain and a year later she helped him to stop D'zkot's New
Order. Much like the others, however, we don't know what Shir did after
this event.
- Tyler Jorran:
We know very little of Tyler's early life,
and in fact, we know so little that we have refrained from plotting many
events of his life on this timeline. We know he was born on Palma but
that he left because he didn't like life under Mother Brain. In SC
352.00, he met Rolf when he rescued him from the space satellite
Gaira and within a year after this event, he met his co-pilot, the
Polezi robot L-479, whom he received from Anna Zirski. Tyler played a
prominent role in the fight against D'zkot's New Order in SC 352.01. We
also know that Tyler once rescued the people aboard one of the Palman
Colony ships and brought them to Dezoris, where they founded a town named
Tyler in his honor. Though we know these events must have taken place
sometime after the defeat of the New Order, we do not yet know when
exactly they occurred.
- Lutz:
Born to an Esper couple named Rie and April on Palma in SC 342.00 shortly
before Nero Landale was killed, the Esper leader Noah once said that he
knew Lutz would be the Espers' leader the first time he held the infant
Lutz in his arms. Lutz's biological parents were somehow killed within
the first two years of his life, as he was present at the age of two at
the construction of Esper Mansion with his foster parents, Nasak and
Aria. Again orphaned in SC 342.15 when Esper Mansion was destroyed, Lutz
was also left as the only Esper with powers. The young 15 year old then
began a process of cryogenic hibernation, waking every 10 years.
In SC 351.90, Lutz awakened and saved Rolf from death in a spaceship crash.
Ten years later, he awakened to find Rolf at Esper Mansion, and he aided
Rolf in destroying Mother Brain, after which he ceased his practice of
cryogenic hibernation. Sometime within the next year, he confronted the
Dezorian telemental D'zkot but was defeated, the memory of the event
being wiped from his brain. Later, Lutz helped Rolf to defeat D'zkot.
The only thing known of his life after this event is that he did indeed
do as Master Noah instructed him; he passed on his knowledge to the next
Esper leader. We know this because in SC 361.98, Rune Walsh refers to
himself as a "Fifth-Generation Lutz." In this sense, Lutz shall remain
immortal.
Phantasy Star IV:
- Chaz Ashley:
Chaz is 16 at the time of the game, which means he was born in SC 361.82.
All we know of Chaz's early life is what he himself tells Rika: "In a far
off country, before Alys picked me up, I did some pretty bad things."
(What or where this "far off country" is remains a mystery.) Because he
apparently has no parents, we believe Chaz was orphaned at a young age
before Alys Brangwin took him in off the streets and trained him as a
Hunter. He witnessed Alys's murder at the hands of Zio in SC 361.98 and
later went on to become Rune Walsh's chosen guardian and a Protector of Algo.
Chaz Ashley was the one to ultimately kill the Profound Darkness in the
same year.
- Alys Brangwin:
Next to nothing is known of the life of
"Alys the Eight Stroke Sword," including her exact age, childhood, or even
when she became a Hunter. We do know that her neighbor in Aiedo
considered her cooking delicious, and she also said that Alys was "really
kind to children, and when she puts her mind to it, she can do anything,
from cooking, to fighting, to poetry!" (It appears, however, that she was
never published.) Alys said she knew Rune from "a long time ago," but how
they met and knew each other remains a mystery. We know that Alys was the
most successful member of the Hunters' Guild and finally, of course, we
know that Alys Brangwin took Chaz Ashley under her wing and trained him as
a Hunter before she was murdered by Zio and buried in the village of Krup
in SC 361.98.
- Hahn:
Being 24 at the time of the game, Hahn was born in
SC 361.74 in the Motavian village of Krup, the only son of the local
blacksmith. We know that he was an assisstant at the Motavia Academy in
SC 361.98, working under Professor Holt, and that entering the
academic world apparently was not a popular decision with his father, who
said that Hahn had been disinherited. (This despite the fact that Hahn
sent scientific literature from the Academy back home, which allowed his
father to make such "splendid weapons.") After fighting with Chaz
Ashley, Hahn returned to the Academy.
When we last saw Hahn, he was engaged to be married to Krup's school
teacher, Saya.
- Rune Walsh:
Rune's exact age at the time of the game is
unknown, but we do know that, at that time, the part of him that was Lutz
was 1998 years old. Rune referred to himself as a Fifth-Generation Lutz,
meaning he was the fourth to carry the memories of the original
Lutz, the Esper born in SC 342.00 and trained by Master Noah. We know
that Rune had met Alys prior to SC 361.98, but the circumstances and exact
nature of this meeting remain unknown. In SC 361.98, Rune traveled to the
village of Molcum in an attempt to save it from Zio, but he was too late.
He eventually joined Chaz Ashley
and guided him in the destruction of the Profound Darkness, fulfilling the
entire purpose behind the transfer of the original Lutz's memories.
Nothing is known of Rune's life after the Profound Darkness's
destruction, but we do know that he planned to
continue his training and prepare the way for the next Lutz. He also told
Chaz Ashley that they would probably never see each other again, and we
are inclined to believe that he was correct.
- Rika:
The youngest of the PSIV heroes at one year,
Rika was created by the supercomputer Seed in SC 361.97 based on 1000
years worth of research on the genetic pattern of Nei. She was educated
by Seed as well as Wren (via comlink from Zelan), and she joined Chaz
Ashley's quest and eventually helped to destroy the Profound
Darkness. After this, and after Wren reminded her that she was "their
hope," Rika decided to spend the rest of her life on Motavia with Chaz.
How long a life she has been designed to
live remains a mystery.
- Gryz:
Born in SC 361.79, Gryz was 19 at the time of the
game. He, his parents, and his younger sister Pana lived in the village
of Molcum on Motavia until it was destroyed by Zio. Gryz managed to
escape with his sister to the village of Tonoe, but his parents
were lost in the battle. The young Motavian, filled with anger and a
great need for revenge, helped Chaz to kill Zio, avenging his parents'
death in the process. He returned to Molcum after this to protect Pana,
but later, he was briefly reunited withChaz. Nothing else of his life is
known.
- Demi:
Demi must have been created (due to her given age)
in SC 358.74, 324 years before PSIV, but the question of who
created her in the post-Collapse society remains unknown. She ran Nurvus
(the Motavian system responsible for supplying power to all other
systems) until Zio conquered it, taking Demi prisoner, sometime before
SC 361.98. She was freed by Chaz and helped him in his quest to destroy
the Profound Darkness, after which she returned to Zelan with her
"master," the android Wren.
- Wren:
Since he was created in the final days of Mother
Brain's existence (SC 352.00), Wren is 998 years old at the time of the
game. For some time, he has been operating the orbiting satellite Zelan,
though how Wren came to this position is unknown. In fact, we know next
to nothing of Wren's very long pre-PSIV life. He joined Chaz
Ashley after Chaz arrived at Zelan in SC 361.98, and after helping Chaz to
destroy the Profound Darkness, he returned to Zelan with Demi. The exact
life span Wren is designed to live remains unknown.
- Raja:
The eldest non-android of all the game's heroes,
Raja ("The kind of guy who would return even if you killed him" according
to Gyuna) is 85, having been born in SC 361.13. Much like the other
characters, very little is known of Raja's life outside of the game. We
do know that he did not always serve at his rural temple outside of Ryuon;
Raja once was a priest at Gumbious Temple itself, where he was apparently
well-liked. However, according to Gyuna, "he was tricked by those who
were jealous of him, and was banished to this rural place." Raja's
version of events is a little different. He says, "Some of my jokes were
such a hit that I had to move on! Ha, ha!" Regardless, Gyuna was quick
to point out that "Raja himself is quite happy that he was able to get
away from that constrained temple!" Sometime after his "banishment" or
"departure" to Ryuon, Raja met Chaz Ashley when Chaz's emergency shuttle
crashed into his temple in SC 361.98, but as for Raja's childhood and key
events such as the origin of his priesthood (and sense of humor), we
remain in the dark.
- Kyra Tierney:
Some call her an "imprudent girl," some call
her a "tomboy," some call her an "unruly girl," and some call her "saucy,"
but we call her Kyra Tierney. Eighteen years old at the time of the game,
Kyra was born in SC 361.80, presumably at Esper Mansion, where we meet her
mother. Kyra herself was an extremely loyal believer of "The Legend of
Esper," which stated that Lutz was still alive and leading the Espers from
a secluded part of the mansion. She was quite distressed to learn that
the legends were inaccurate; that Rune was Lutz, and that Lutz turned out
to be "so insensitive." We know that Kyra saw Rune Walsh once before she
met him on Dezoris in SC 361.98 (believing him to be the supposedly 1,998
year old original Lutz) but aside from that, Kyra's life remains a
mystery.
Phantasy Star III:
Note: In the course of creating Phantasy Star Ultimate, we decided on
one "official" ending for Phantasy Star III because it would be
impossible to place the dates surrounding this game on the timeline any
other way. The ending we chose was Aron's.
- Prince Rhys of Landen:
Rhys is 18 at the start of his
adventures (birthdate: SC 361.89). He met Maia in SC 362.06 when she
washed up on the shore of Landen with no memory. Two months later, in
early SC 362.07, he was almost married to Maia before she was kidnapped by
a dragon and taken away. Rhys embarked on a quest in which he ultimately
located Maia, but the two of them decided that their world was not yet
ready for a marriage between an Orakian and a Layan, and they went their
separate ways. Soon, however, he married Princess Lena of Satera, uniting
the kingdoms of Landen and Satera, and two years later, in SC 362.09, his
eldest son, Nial, was born. At the age of 38, in SC 362.27, he sent Nial
on a mission to find Lune and stop him from destroying Orakian lands. All
of Rhys's life past this point is unknown.
- Princess Lena of Satera:
Lena was 16 when she met Rhys in
SC 362.07, suggesting a birthdate of SC 361.91. She was kidnapped by
Prince Lyle and brought to Shusoran where she was reunited with Rhys and
helped him to free Maia. Having had a lifelong crush on the prince, she
was most pleased that he fell in love with her and married her late in SC
362.07. Two years later, she gave birth to Nial, Prince of Landen and
Satera. We know nothing of her fate after Nial left to search for
Lune.
- Prince Lyle of Shusoran:
Lyle's birthdate would seem to be
SC 361.87 if he is 20 during Rhys's adventures, as we presume he is. We
do not know how old he was when he first discovered his power as the
dragon-knight, but we do know it was late in SC 362.06 that a vision
informed him his missing cousin Maia was in the Orakian worlds in Landen.
(Lyle
never learned that he was actually being manipulated by Rulakir.) Lyle at
first hindered and then helped Rhys to find Maia, but after Rhys and Maia
decided not to marry, we lose track of Lyle and do not hear more of his
life.
- Mieu and Wren:
Presumably, Mieu and Wren were created in
or before SC 352.00, as they were on one of the Palman Colony ships when
the ships launched from Palma, which means that when they meet Rhys, they
are 1007+ years old. We know they fought with Orakio during the
Devastation War, but that Orakio left them behind before going into the
final battle with Dark Force. We know nothing of the androids' lives in
the 1000 years between the Devastation War and the opening of
PSIII. Mieu and Wren met Rhys in SC 362.07 and journeyed with him
on his quest to find Maia, after which they remained at Rhys's side until
leaving with Nial in SC 362.27 and with Aron in SC 362.47. They helped
Aron to defeat the Dark Force aboard Alisa III and both were
presumably destroyed when the ship crashed on Earth's moon after time
traveling backwards to SC 339.35.
- Princess Maia of Cille:
We assume Maia to be 18 at the
time of Rhys's adventures, making her birthdate SC 361.89. Nothing is
known of Maia's life until a freak storm (the earliest signs that
Aquatica's weather was malfunctioning) sent her into the ocean and through
a passageway
between the worlds to Landen in SC 361.06. A head injury she sustained
on the way left her without memory, and upon waking in Landen, she fell in
love with Prince Rhys. Her cousin, Prince Lyle, kidnapped her and
returned her to Aquatica in SC 362.07. After being reunited with Rhys,
they decided their world was not ready for
a marriage between an Orakian and a Layan, and they parted ways. We do
not know what happened to Maia after this.
- Prince Nial of Landen and Satera:
Nial was born in SC
362.09, making him 18 when he left Landen to investigate rumors of Lune's
return in SC 362.27. After defeating Lune, Nial married Lune's sister,
Alair, and late in the year, a son, Aron, was born to the couple. Nothing
is known of Nial's life after he ordered Aron to investigate Alisa
III's
destruction of another Palman Colony ship, but it is presumed he was
killed when the ship time traveled back to SC 339.35 and crashed on
Earth's moon.
- Prince Aron of Dahlia:
Aron was born in SC 362.27 to Nial
and Alair. He was raised on the moon Dahlia, far above his father and
grandfather's homelands. At the age of 20, in SC 362.47, the Alisa
III fired on and destroyed another Palman Colony ship, and Nial
ordered Aron to investigate. Ultimately, the mission led to Aron
defeating both
Rulakir and Dark Force. Soon afterward, Aron presumably died when
Alisa III crashed into Earth's moon.
- Orakio and Rulakir:
Agent's Destiny reveals that
Rolf knew Orakio in his early years of schooling on Motavia, but that the
twin brothers soon moved to Palma with their family. This suggests that
Orakio and Rulakir, like Rolf, were born in SC 351.79, making them 21
years old at the time of Alisa III's launch from Palma. Five years
later, Dark Force arrives aboard the ship and Orakio becomes a leader of
one side of the Devastation War. At the age of 28, Orakio unites with
Laya to fight the demon and they succeed in sealing Dark Force within a
palace in Landen, though both he and
Laya die in the process. Meanwhile, just before being imprisoned, Dark
Force somehow manages to corrupt Rulakir, and throughout the centuries,
Rulakir is kept alive by his hatred. He lives in the city of Lashute,
plotting a way to re-start the Devastation
War. In SC 362.07, at the age of 1,028, Rulakir's plan was activated when
Wren and Mieu returned the satellites Dahlia and Azura to their proper
orbits. Eventually, Rhys's grandson Aron confronted Rulakir and freed
him from Dark Force's corruption by
killing him. He was 1,068 when his soul finally found rest.
