Given they haven't tried to have the Phantasy Star Generation 1 translation removed, I don't think it's a high priority for Sega. Plus the translation patch is useless without the actual ROM it's not like the Streets of Rage remake.

Well SEGA as a company seems to me to be going out of their way to screw everything up, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they did send a "cease and desist" down the line.

But surely they wouldnt bother. Outside of teh mmo's it seems to me SEGA could care less about the phantasy Star games outside of slapping them into another "best of" series along with Streets of Rage

I have a great deal of sympathy for you on having to work with someone like Tryphon on this kind of project, at least because their skills in programming and ASM hacking are indeed quite useful.
I only hope that he has treated you and Kyence with far more respect and gratitude than he has shown towards myself and the rest of the fan community.
I want to personally thank you for taking the initiative and convincing Tryphon to part with his (HIS) translation to help the community with the French to English translation and grinding out the remaining work.
There's an old joke that programmers lack the social graces of most people. In Tryphon's case I would tend to agree with that.
I leave you with this: "Que la joie de les étoiles avec vous"

Well, I never got any problems with Tryphon, we have even thought about doing another project together (other than PSGEN1) though we first need to check if the hack can be done (and I need to do PSGEN1 translation first, didn't worked seriously on it yet except to do some tests).

From my point of view, Tryphon asked you to contact Kyence and it seems you've never done it, though it was as quick as answering yes or no.

I never had to convince Tryphon to do the english translation, in fact, I didn't even asked him first (it would be weird to ask someone if I can use my own translation ^^). But he know it's done and there is no problem at all about that.

I contacted Kyence myself and she answered pretty quick so if you had contacted her, she would probably just have sent you the remaining files to be translated and this situation wouldn't have happened, I suppose.

But I've always been okay to help personally, so I would have helped far before if someone would have asked me to

As long as the english translation is released soon, I think the rest isn't really important anyway ;)

DarkWraith PM'd today noting he replied in the forum. For the record, working with Tryphon has been nothing but a positive experience. He first helped me insert some letters missing from the font map in G1, and once we decided to work on G2, I gave him a list of pointers to start figuring out the code with, and he worked his magic beyond anything I or the PS community could have expected. He has always been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I am grateful that Tryphon and Blaw defended me and let me know what was going on at the time, so I could address it and re-prioritize things. They certainly didn't have to do that, but they did. That's pretty darn admirable in my book. I'm not sure how/if Tryphon will respond, but if this particular discussion continues beyond a couple of more replies or gets heated,it's probably better for everyone that it be done privately, so this topic can focus on the translation progress itself.

Moving on, as for the translation, everyone's working on their files. I finished the second of Blaw's Dezo town translations and will start working on the third. After that, I will start a final revision on files translated. Once I finish review a couple of them, I'll send them to be proofread. It seems like the agreed course of action is to beta test the Japanese names first, fix any errors, and then beta test an English names release.

Thanks again, everyone!

I want to highlight this and suggest all discussions regarding that topic to continue via PM (although I can't see any reason for the discussion to continue). I will also note that all members should consider their choice of language and write in a respectful manner.

Let's keep this thread clean as a lot of people are following the updates.

I edited my last post, but I'm not sure how many people check the older pages in this thread. Anyway, my file's translation is FINISHED!

Can't talk for Kyence but as near all files are finished, I suppose the beta-version might be ready for the summer (dunno if Kyence plan to do a private beta first or directly do a public one).

Very interesting that someone decided to post publicly what should of been PM'ed to people, but heya it keeps things lively around!

I'm glad to see everyone is so gung-ho about this project and where things are going as well. It's fantastic to hear about these updates as we get closer and closer to the completion of Generation 2! I absolutely cannot wait to play this.

Throwing my hat out there since I got a bit more free time if you ever need anyone to test things out or break something, I'd be more than happy to lend my assistance in whatever way possible.

Keep on keeping on, everyone, and great work!

Hello I made an account just to thank Kyence and everyone else who is working hard on making the english translations possible ~ I never grew up playing any of the phantasy stars my first was actually the mmo PSO2 but then I wanted to research about the series and decided i'd start with the first from there I found out of kyence's efforts and work on the phantasy star generations and decided I'd play it~ I finished it in one day from the hype and fun "ofc with the use of maps" otherwise I'd be hysteric I can't imagine playing it without maps @_@ I get lost sooo easily D: especially since fights happen and after the fight u can't remember.. I'll try playing the second phantasy star by drawing the maps myself as I explore it certainly would be a more exciting experience *-* ~ Can't wait for this translation to come out! :O~ after which I'll play PS3 and 4 on the genesis!

Phantasy Star 2 was huge, difficult, and complex, even with the maps it will take a number of days to complete, when I beat it on the Genesis for the first time with the maps it took about a week and a half(no game cheat codes), the story was very good if you can get past the difficulty of the game, Phantasy Star 3 is a love it or hate it type game, I fall into the hate it category only because you journey through the same dungeons so many times, also some of the monsters looked very poorly done to me, but that's my opinion, as I said many will disagree with me and many love it so it's a mixed bag, you should also know that Phantasy Star 3 was done by a completely different team than the team that did 1,2, and 4, I still finished Phantasy Star 3 with every outcome possible because I'm a true Phantasy Star fan, and as far as Phantasy Star 4 goes, it's awesome, best of the bunch by far, lots of people rank 4 the best and 3 the worst of the series, and it is also not necessary to play 3 as it is almost not relevant to 4 at all, although their is one part in 4 that has a small reference to 3.

Quick update. I've made a decent amount of progress on reviewing the translated files I have. There are two files still being translated; one person needed an extension for the end of July. Starting next week, I'll be sending out a couple of the bigger text files to be proofread during this time. I'm hoping by mid-August I'll have a beta that can be tested. I'll probably limit it at first to a couple of people to make sure there are no glaring errors that break the game. I'm hoping the beta phase will only be a few weeks.

I can help with the beta-test when it'll be needed, feel free to pm me at that time if you need help.

I know pretty well the few things that can break the game :D

(I also have a save with Eusis at level 99 at the start of the game, which is pretty handy to complete the game easily/quickly).

The last run I did on the french version only took a few hours to complete the game from what I remember.
