Phantasy Star Generation:1 English translation project

Hello,

I made an account here so I could thank the people involved with this fan translation as I just finished PSG1 and I had a great time! I also wanted to let you all know that I wrote a walkthrough for the game as I was playing it, as the only other FAQ available on GameFAQs for this game was woefully incomplete.

My account there is Iudico. I know it's not a perfect, exhaustive guide. But I put down as much information as I could; I was able to get the land rover, get the shortcake, and get through to the Morgue on Dezoria, using some information I found in this thread and trial and error. I wrote down what worked for me and so I hope it helps those who play this in the future!

When I heard about this I got really excited. Phantasy Star II is one of my favorite games. I can not get it working tho. The game loads up and the press start screen comes up. I press start and it goes to another screen with the start and continue option. I can select either one but thats it. I am using Pcsx2. Thanks for all the work that was done keeping this gem alive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Can't wait to get it working and then looking forward to part 2!!

Hi D2Legend. What happens when you select Start and press Circle (on my pcsx2-install that is mapped to "L")? Does it freeze or something?

Ty for reply. Nothing happens. It doesn't freeze. i can continue to move between start and continue. My gamepad is setup up correctly. The emulator recognizes it and all the button work. I can't figure out what the problem is. It's kinda upsetting cause I got all hyped up bout playing it. lol

I'm afraid I have no tips to offer you, but perhaps it is some consolation (tough no bet frustrating) to hear that I've got it running with pcsx2 (v 1.1.0.0). Does it work in the unpatched version of the ROM? In that case, perhaps it is worth worth repatching (or finding a different version of the patch). If it doesn't work in the Japanese original either, I guess finding a different ROM is an option... Good luck!

Well I can not say for sure that I will get a complete rom if I download it for anywhere. So I have ordered both of the imports from Amazon. Sadly part 2 will be here in a few days but part 1 wont be here until next month. It's coming from Japan. I hope then I will be able to figure out what the problem is.

*Ok I got the import for generation 2 in the mail today. I made an iso to just test it out and make sure it would run it would run. It boots up and I run into the same problem. Now this is the original disc so that leads me to believe that there is a problem with the way things are setup maybe?? But the gamepad works when I test it thru the emulator. And if it was a gamepad issue how would I be able to press start and get to the next menu. I am using a Nyko AirFlo EX. Windows 8.1 and the latest version of PCSX2. Any advice??

*I got it working. I had to change the gamepad plugin. The default for some reason wasn't working right. But works great now. Only problem is a slight graphic error. It's still playable. It just looks like some of the graphics are glitches ever so many pixels. Is this normal for the emulator??

*I fixed the graphics by pressing F9 after game launches, in case anyone else has the same problem.

Is the psg2 english translation still being worked on? What is the status on that.

I would like to help out however my japanese is about a 0.5 on scale of 1 to 10. I guess kyence it is up to her not only can she translate but more importantly she is familiar with how to modify the files etc.

Even so I would like to help out if I could so if I can do anything let me know, I am a pretty good programmer / hacker its just I do not know japanese, I guess some of the script has been translated

I am playing the psg1 translation and really liking it, some funny bits of dialogue in there, I think it would be fun to translate a game and add your own style to it . Great job on the translation.

I have ran psg2 and even though I cannot understand it much it is obvious there is alot more dialogue than the original version

I noticed the graphics glitches too on psg1 as well I think it is sloppy tileset work, but it could be the emulator, however I kind of doubt that and do not want to get out my ps2, burn a disc etc, to confirm. Really looks like sloppy tileset work to me with the 1 pixel wide line right on the edge of the tile.

This is some amazing work! I have been foaming at the mouth wanting to play this new version of Phantasy Star ever since it was released in Japan and you all have clearly outdone yourself judging by these screen shots.

I have some questions about this, how do I use this english translation. I am a complete dummy when it comes to emulators and all this so could use some advice.
If I purchase the original Japanese game disc for this, and download the PCSX2 emulator, what do I do at that point? Do I just put the game disc in the disc drive on my computer and then run the emulator? Do I need a special disc drive to run the Japanese discs or anything? How about the English translation ISO, how do I apply it to the game?

If someone could point me towards a detailed guide about making this work I would be very grateful. I really have no clue where to begin but I am dying to play this!

I just want to say "thank you" for this.

I know that I'm kinda late to the party, but I really had lost all hope to ever playing this version of the original Phantasy Star. Whoever you are, sir or madam, you made me a happy man.

Just for the record, if anyone is/was struggling with annoying glitches when running the ISO on PCSX2 (map tiles looking misplaced, giving it a "grid" feel when you're walking around), Just tinker with the "Interlacing (F5)" option of the GS plugin. For me, setting it it "Blend bff (slight blur, 1/2 fps)" did the trick.

That was quite some time ago!
