Asperger's in television.

Read an interesting media piece in the philadelphia daily news. There seems to be buch of show that have been adding characters with asperger's syndrom. The lastest show to do so will be Parenthood, which debuts tomarrow. The first time I saw someone in a tv show with AS iot was boston legal, which used to be a favorite show of mine before it started to suck, and it was interesting how they applied it until it became more a means to create jokes at the expense of one's social inepitude.

However when I get the chance I shall scan it and post, maybe someone will find it rather interesting as well.

I don't watch television, except for the news, documentaries or the occasional movie... So I know nothing of it...

But I have a friend who MAY be an Aspy. He makes people mad, and I have had trouble with him... Odd thing, when we actually agree, we make a huge mess having fun and pissing other people off...

Well I watched the show Parenthood last night and.... I felt kind of sad/odd after it. The kid maxx was like a spitting image of me almost. So many things going on that made me wonder how my parents reacted when they noticed I was diferent. Maxx parents were distressed and didn't know what to do, and I wonder what my parents were like. I want to ask them and I am kinda scared to do so. thats some god damn powerful television.

Hmmm... Care to describe the kid?

I watch no TV...

If you wouldn't mind describing yourself, that'd help too for me to understand a bit more about Asperger's syndrome, since I'm not too sure about what its characteristics are.

i'm suprised. I thought you had a small understanding since there's at least 2 or 3 of us here that have AS. No biggie.

The kid maxx in the show was... well he was active but he didn't seem all there. Kids would say stuff like hello to him and he wouldn't respond or acknowledge. He has.... dammit I can't reqally explain it well enough the behavior paterns the kid performed.

Here's a direct link to the pilot episode.

as for a mor in depth look into aspergers.

So it's pretty much a form of autism? Kid seems to get along just fine, just has his issues, as we all have our issues...

I tell you one thing though, I really enjoyed that show... It was seriously interesting, and very good... I'm glad I took the time out to watch it despite the fact I work (Hopefully) in the morning... Thanks for the link, I greatly appreciate it... I know Chinelle's going to love this... If I can only get her to watch it in the first place... *Eyeballs her* She's a handful...

I can't stand pity shows about AS people as I know some pretty successful autistics (diagnosed) in real life.

Autistic people have the ability to learn as fast as 7 year old school kid. That's very good advantage in life.
I once watched a documentary about languages. They interviewed one autistic person who spoke at least 20 languages fluently.
For some reason, when human grows older, this ability to learn reduces greatly.

Come to think of it, I know someone who is exactly the same way. He's a post-whoring mod and always complains about wastage of bandwidth and electricity that isn't even his.

He's also an anti microsoft mod who bought an XP laptop and abandoned his precious Windows 3.11 which he claimed was the best

That guy is SO full of himself

Aspberger's Syndrome is no excuse for hypocrisy

Talking about autism...
I did a little test on facebook. :D

"Your Autism Spectrum Quotient is 33."
However:
"The average score for the original control group of the test was 16.4. 80% of adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders scored 32 or more, compared with only 2% of the control group. The test is not a diagnostic tool and higher scores do not necessarily indicate either Asperger syndrome or high functioning autism."
