Original ideas were stolen. Compare the stories and ideas in some of the more recent Final Fantasy games(7 to 10-2) to the Phantasy Star series and you'll see what was stolen. FF7 and PS2 hold the most similarities, start comparing there.
You are talking about Square-Enix right?
[Edit by Demon Child on [TIME]1091424292[/TIME]]

I don't know if this will count, but FF baddies Zeromus and Necron are similar to Dark Force personality-wise from the Phantasy Star series. You know, I'm the epitome of hate, the darkness of eternity and all that -- that type of crap.

[Edit by ThePeaGuy on [TIME]1091456659[/TIME]]

I was talking about PS4 to some kid a while back and I mentioned Espers, and he was like "They stole that from Final Fantasy!" That's pretty stupid, since in most games and anime, "esper" is just a generic term the Japanese use to refer to someone with psychic powers. That's like saying "Such and such ripped off blah blah because it uses magic."
Oh, and the Giga Gaia from Chrono Trigger resembles Dark Force crossed with a bat. Pretty stupid-looking if you ask me.
[Edit by B. Cabeza on [TIME]1091456150[/TIME]]

I didn't mind so much prior, but the whole Aerith/Nei similarity set was far too much to ignore... >_<
These days, plagiarism is the norm, it seems... :(

The fact remains that even though FF has the more sales and bigger fanbase, PS has the overall better performance and though a smaller base, it's fans have a brain and use, plus we're not all 40 year old oily geeks with acne living in our mom's attic/basement

Hahahaha!
For the most part, FF fans are those 12 year-old kids who can be easily entertained by an hour-long cutscene followed by a boss battle that you can't possibly lose to. Then they go and say, "Final Fantasy has so much story!".
FF is just a mediocre RPG cloaked with lengthy cutscenes and pre-rendered graphics that far surpass anything you will see in the rest of the game. Idiots seem to be impressed with that kind of stuff, though.

I didn't mind so much prior, but the whole Aerith/Nei similarity set was far too much to ignore... >_<
These days, plagiarism is the norm, it seems... :(

Sadly that is just the begining of how much was put into FF7 from PS2. The stories of both of the game were quite similar too. If you shorten the description of either game down to the point where any idiot could understand it it would be something like 'A guy goes off on his job, things start out ok but quickly go wrong, he meets some allies, you before the game is even half way over know who you have to fight in the end, someone important to the main character dies, things start going wrong with the world, you are to be executed, you barely escape, you head off to the final fight, you fight an ancient evil, then fight the thing you knew you were gonna fight since pretty close to the begining.'
~_~ Sad isnt it?
