Phantasy Star IV (May 30th, 1994) Script
Table of contents
Outside
- Old man
- This is Zema.
Birth Valley is located further on, but the entrance is all
sealed up.
- Man A
- Since Birth Valley's entrance is sealed it's nice and quiet, but
on the other hand, when it's quiet it makes you all
the moreun easy!
- Man B
- Hey, it's you guys.
When the bridge up north is fixed,
you'll be able to cross it.
House 2
- Young woman
- You say the bridge is fixed?
Now my husband will be able to return. I'm so glad!
Motavia Academy
Principal's office
- Principal
- We should not incite public panic any further!
Don't you agree?
- Holt
- We've got to do something and don't announced it...
you stupid raccoon!
Outside
- Ranch owner
- This is the village of Mile.
And this is our sand worm ranch, but...
Maybe we've fed them too much. They've become pretty big!
In fact, they're kind of unlovable now.
What do you think we should do?
- Young man C
- You're looking for Birth Valley?
Then go to a village called Zema.
Apparently, the people there have returned.
- Guard
- Zema has been restored!!!
Is this true, really?
Inn
- Innkeeper
- Our sand worms on the ranch have become so huge they're
kind of creepy.
- Young woman
- When they were small, they were kind of cute...
But now, those sand worms, they're scary.
Outside
- Young woman
- This is the town of Nalya, but I don't think
it's inhabitable anymore.
- Young man
- Hey, doesn't it look like there's a machine in the middle
of that big hole?
We want to see what it is, but on the other hand,
it's kind of scary and no one dares go near it.
- Old man
- About three months ago
a large meteorite fell just outside of town...
and look what has happened!
What in the world did we do to deserve this?
- Man
- This town may be doomed.
It may be a smart idea to relocate as soon as possible
to somewhere like Aiedo.
- Bald man
- This place was our home.
Oh well, it may be that just coming out
of it alive was miracle.
House 1
- Young man
- The house was safe, but considering what's coming,
I have a feeling it would be better if we moved.
- Young woman
- I have no idea where we would go.
It's also hard to leave a place where you've lived for so long.
House 2
- Man
- I'm happy that this house was miraculously saved, but
we get harassed every day.
If this is the way it's going to be,
I'd rather it was all destroyed!
- Young woman
- That lady across the street, who used to be so kind,
is just nasty all the time now.
I just can't trust humans anymore!
- Boy
- My friends talk to me anymore. I'm so lonely... Waaaaa
House 3
- Young woman
- Rain leaks into the other room.
That's why we're sleeping in this room.
- Boy
- Mommy, the wind is cold!
- Young man
- We don't have the money to fix the house...
What shall we do?
Inn (second floor)
- Man
- Don't be ridiculous!
You think you can do something like that after you've eloped?!
- Woman
- There's a big town called Aiedo west of here, and my parent's
home is located there.
So I've been telling hubbie we should go there for a while.
- Sick young man
- Just leave me alone
Tent 1
- Young man
- You know, right after the meteorite fell,
some kind of army came rushing across the bridge from the west.
And then, just when we had thought they returned to the
west, we found the bridge destroyed.
I wonder if they came from Aiedo?
Who in the world were they!
- Young woman
- You're talking nonsense again!
Has the meteorite made you dim-witted?
Tool shop
- Shopkeeper
- Whew, thanks to the fact that I got my wares out early on,
I'm still able to do business.
Tent 2
- Woman
- Why was my house destroyed and the house across
the street was not!
It's not fair! Don't you agree?
It makes me mad!
- Man
- Hey, hey, let's just accept our lot.
My wife didn't used to be like this.
- Boy
- I can stop ignoring my friend now, can't I?
I want to be friends and play together!
(inspect computer)
- Rudy
- This... There's something shining.
- Fal
- I know what it is. Move over, Rudy!
- Pike
- Wow, pretty impressive.
- Fal
- It's a pretty hard security code to break, but...there!
We can now access the main computer's memory!
- Rudy
- What's this?
- Fal
- Look! It says that this is the space ship that escaped from
Parma a thousand years ago!
- Rudy
- What! Really?!
But...Parma exploded a thousand years ago!?
- Fal
- Oh, you know about that?
- Rudy
- Yes...I learned about it at the academy.
- Fal
- Parma, the first planet of the Algo solar system,
was destroyed in AW 1284 when the man-made satellite, Gaira,
crashed on it...
Today, the only vestiges of Parma is the asteroid belt.
- Rudy
- But there were people that were able to escape!
- Fal
- According to the records... just before the explosion,
some people were able to escape...
This space ship was damaged, and became trapped in orbit
around Motavia.
They floated around in space until all the humans aboard
died. But the computer was able to sustain itself with
its self-repairing mechanisms.
- Rudy
- They all...died?
- Fal
- According to the flight chart... the orbit slowly decayed over
the last thousand years...
the ship finally crashed here!
- Rudy
- Then...that means all the Parmanians perished?!
- Fal
- Oh no. This is not the only ship that escaped from Parma!
It seems that other similar ships were able to escape
successfully.
Most of them landed either in Motavia or Dezolis, but
it looks like some of them went right out of the Algo solar
system.
I can't get an accurate number, but it looks like some tens of
ships.
- Rudy
- ...So they're still continuing their flight...
somewhere in the universe...
(inspect computer again)
- Rudy
- This must be a space ship that escaped from Parma...
Outside
- Guards
- This is Aiedo --- a fluid town.
All kinds of things flow in and out, from all over the place.
Why, if it isn't Ryre. Welcome home!
- Young man A
- Hey, Ryre! You look just as beautiful as usual.
With your hair fluttering in the wind...
You're one attractive woman who I have the hots for!
Well, see you later!
- Hahn
- Wh...what was that all about? What a geek?
- Pike
- Maybe he's being forced to say those things?
- Ryre
- Hey, you guys over there! What are you talking about?
- Young man B
- There are a lot of hunters in this town so it's kind of
dangerous, but,
on the other hand, we're safe if any monsters appear.
There are some benefits of having all these hunters here!
- Woman A
- There are two weapons and armor stores in this town.
If you want good quality stuff you'd better go to the store
near the Hunter's Guild.
Oh, it's you, Ryre.
I don't need to tell you all this.
- Woman B
- The fortune-teller named 'Mito' is one of the best.
Like last time, she was right on the money about
where my husband was stashing his secret savings!
- Peddler
- I've come from Zema to peddle my wares, but...
Look at this town!
It's already got a pretty impressive marketplace!
But I still have to sell the wares I brought,
otherwise, I'd be too embarrassed to go home!
- Old man
- In the middle of town is a market.
Behind it is the Hunters' Guild. Isn't it a big town?
- Hunter A
- I'm a hunter, but I haven't been able to find work lately.
That's because there's some woman called Ryre who's getting
all the work.
Hey, well if it isn't Ryre.
Why don't you send some work my way once in a while.
- Ryre
- Don't talk rubbish!
Work is not something that gets sent to you.
You have to go out and get it!
- Hunter B
- Hey there! How dare you bump into me and
pass on without a word?
Oh! It's you, Ryre!
Oh dear, please excuse my rudeness.
- Guard
- I'd say that 'Ryre the Eight Stroke Knife'
is the most skilled person in these parts.
- Ryre
- Didn't I tell you to quit calling me that?
It's totally ridiculous!
- Hahn
- Yeah, you certainly did!
Ooops! Ryre, why are you hitting me?!
- Ryre
- Hmmph!
- Young woman
- This is the prison. You better not get too close.
- Young woman before grave
- Hmph...
- Fal
- Rudy, I don't think you should get in their way when they're
paying their respects at the grave.
House 1
- Man
- I recently move here from Nalya.
My wife went to the market and hasn't come back yet.
What is she doing?
House 2
- Woman
- It sounds glamorous to live in such a big town, but
we do get a lot of undesirable hunter types, what with the
guild and all.
It's not a very good thing in terms of giving a child an
education.
- Boy
- Hey, wait, you little brat!
- Girl
- I don't want to.
House 3
- Old man
- That piece of slime who eloped with my daughter!
It still makes me mad when I think about him!
- Old woman
- It seems like the town of Nalya is in some kind of trouble.
I wonder if my daughter is doing all right?
I'm so worried.
Come on, Stop sulking. We should invite her over.
House 4
- Old woman
- Ah, Ryre, thank you for giving me that
food you cooked the other day. It was all delicious.
I'll wash the containers and return them to you.
- Hahn
- Do you mean you can cook, Ryre?
- Pike
- People are so unpredictable.
- Ryre
- Oh, cut it out. What does it matter?
House 5
- Man
- That's strange?
I could have sworn that I put it away in here...
Hey! My secret sav...
Yikes!
What the heck are you guys doing here!
Don't you have the decency to at least knock!
Ryre's home
- Ryre
- Ah, we're finally home!
Shall we take it easy for the rest of the day?
(if you answer yes)
- Ryre
- OK, Let's be up bright and early tomorrow!
(if you answer no)
- Ryre
- Well, shall we keep going a little longer?
Tinkerbell's house
- Young man
- I can't even go looking for him, because I'm so afraid,
of the monsters roaming outside the town.
There's the option of asking for help at the Hunters' Guild, but
would there be a hunter who would go find a dog?
- Young woman
- Our pet dog is missing.
We've searched this town from one end to the other.
It pains me to see the children so crestfallen.
- Girl
- 'Locky'...
That's my dog's name.
I wonder where he could have gone off to?
Mito's house
- Mito
- Oh, it's you, Ryre, Thank for everything
the other day.
For you I'll tell you your fortune for free...
heh, heh...
Ah...
No...don't...
I...I don't seem to be in good shape today.
Come back some other time.
Bar
- Young man A
- It was really scary last time.
A formidable army rushed past Aiedo.
Brrrr. Can't go on without a drink.
- Young man B
- Ahem!
There's no one to hear me even if I cough.
Boy it's lonesome...
- Bunny woman
- I feel safe here because we don't get too many
suspicious-looking people!
- Bald man
- There's a bar in the Hunters' Guild too.
But that's a place where hunters congregate.
Regular people are too afraid to go in there.
- Barman
- Oh Ryre, what a rare surprise to see you here.
If you came here to see me, I welcome you heartily.
- Ryre
- Hee hee, maybe I'll have you treat me again next time.
Market
- Young man
- This is the biggest market in all of Motavia!
- Woman
- Aiedo's market is just as impressive as I heard it was!
- Boy
- Mommy, I'm bored, let's go home...
- Young woman A
- Oof!
I bought so much stuff it's hard to carry everything
- Young woman B
- We traveled all the way here to shop at the market, but...
We used up all our money with travel expenses.
Actually, we don't have the money to pay for our rooms,
but we haven't been able to admit it, and have kept on
staying...
Wh...what shall we do?
- Young woman C
- Say, why don't we climb out that window during the night!
- Guard A
- What possessed me to buy such a thing?
It's kind of frightening how you can't stop shopping
when you get caught up in the excitement of the moment!
- Guard B
- We don't have to go all over town to find stuff.
You can pretty much find everything here.
(stay at the inn)
- Voices
- Come on, hurry up! Quietly! Quietly!
Hey, wait, sis! Don't leave me behind! Waaa!
What was that sound? Oooh!
Hey, you guys!
Hey you, wait! Don't you dare run away!
Waaa. Please forgive us.
No way, you rascals! You shameless brats!
Waaaaa.
Hunter shops
- Hunter A
- Hmmph, you call that a market!
There's nothing that would be of use there!
- Hunter B
- So many things catch my eye, but even the best weapon is
wasted unless it is used by skilled hands.
Hunters' Guild
- Hunter A
- Zio?
I don't know who hired you, but don't even think about it!
Even if you had an infinite number of lives it wouldn't be
enough!
- Hunter B
- This is just between you and me...
The cave to the north of Aiedo leads to the area
beyond the hills.
Everyone who's ever gone into the cave has never come back
alive!
I wonder what is beyond that cave!
- Hunter C
- Monsters have recently become extremly strong making combat
with them difficult.
I better think about a new profession pretty soon!
- Hunter D
- Hey, Ryre! Your still as attractive as ever.
Why don't you go out with me once in a while?
- Ryre
- Thanks. I'll consider it when you become more of a man.
- Hunter E
- There's been a big army going in and out of that cave up north.
It must be Zio's troops that we've been hearing about!
- Barkeeper
- Hey, Ryre! The usual?
- Ryre
- Sorry. I just don't feel like it today.
I'll see you some other time.
- Guard A
- This town is relatively peaceful thanks to us...
I hear that other towns are plagued with disasters.
In one case an entire town burnt to the ground!
It's been said this is all Zio's doing.
I wonder if it's true?
- Guard B
- My, my. Ryre's quite a looker, but aren't you a cutie pie too?
- Fal
- Ahhhh! Ugh!
- Rudy
- Cut it out, you!
- Guard C (standing up)
- Cool!
- Guard C (crouching)
- Just a little nearer!
- Rudy
- Ah...
- Ryre
- Come on, let's go Rudy!
- Bunny woman A
- My, I'm so honored that you're here, Ryre.
It inspires me to do well!
- Bunny woman B
- In times like this,
those in the hunting profession seem to be doing well.
But the monsters have become very strong.
Apparently only the most skilled are still in business.
That fact is reflected by how painfully few customers
there are!
- Receptionist
- Welcome!
You have come to the Hunters' Guild where we enrich the lives
of hunters!
The sign in area is over there!
For those of you hunters who have already signed in,
I'd like to give you information about available job listings.
Currently listed are...
These are the jobs that are currently offered.
Any applications?
Prison
- Guard
- Guarding a prison is no easy job.
It's so boring.
- Young woman A
- We tried to escape during the night,
but we got caught.
- Young woman B
- We're ex-convicts now. No one will marry us now!
- Prisoner
- Hey, Ryre, you rotten...!
Thanks to you I've ended up in here!
House near graves
- Old woman
- Why, it's Ryre. So you've finally come around
to thinking of buying a place in this town?
- Ryre
- Are you kidding! I have no desire to have my
bones buried in a squalid town like this!
When I'm old, I'm going to lead a relaxing
lifestyle in a quieter place!
Bakery
- Young woman in basement
- I'm sorry about the inconvenient location of this bakery!
Outside
- Man
- This place? This is the town of Kadary.
Have you come to visit Zio's church as well?
- Woman
- Did you take the path to the north?
In that case, you must have seen the town
burnt to ruins on your way here?
It's been said that was all due to Zio! I'm so afraid!
- Bald man A
- A church that spreads the teachings of a man
named Zio was erected in this town.
Devotees came here from all over the place.
I don't want to say it in a loud voice, but...
it sure is a big bother!
- Bald man B
- How pathetic, a full-grown adult like you crying for Zio!
You have tobe able to respect yourself before you can respect
others, so grow up!
- Bald man C
- Zio says that the end of this world is coming soon.
I wonder if that's true?
- Bald man D
- That inn in the back of the town...
I used to frequent that place, but recently,
I can't go in even if I wanted to...
- Crying fanatic
- Oh...Zio, the holy one...
- Fanatic
- Excuse me, can I ask you something?
Do you believe in Zio's teachings?
(if you answer yes)
- Fanatic
- Ah, a kindred spirit! Glory be to the great Zio!
Purge the souls of the fools!
(if you answer no)
- Fanatic
- In that case, become one of us at once.
Otherwise, you will be purged by us.
Inn
- Innkeeper
- Don't you think this is terrible?
Those people who visit the church spend their nights here.
But I'm too afraid to collect room charges from Zio's
soldiers.
It's just too much!
- Young woman on second floor
- Among the believers of Zio
there's a saying that goes 'Don't ignore Kadary and feel
so smug.'
Kadary is a sacred area!
House 1
- Young woman
- If it is the fate of this planet to die anyway,
we might as well pin all our hopes on this one man.
Don't you agree?
House 2
- Young woman
- Our daughter has become a believer of Zio
and won't come home.
House 3
- Woman
- Why don't we get out of this town?
- Bald man
- What is going on with those guys going overboard
with this Zio thing!
It, just makes my skin crawl!
Zio's church
- Fanatic A
- Those ignorant masses living in idleness!
These are exactly the people that should be purged at the
hands of Zio!
- Fanatic B
- This is a church where we worship the great Zio.
Zio says he's going to cleanse this soiled land with the fires
of destruction...
And then, he's going to build a utopian societry populated with
only the finest citizens!
How wonderful! The thought makes me tingle!
- Fanatic C
- It's only us believers that Zio will lead to the new world!
- Fanatic D
- I came here from the Motavia Academy.
School work is so stupid!
- Fanatic E
- Ziiio! Ziiiio!
- Fanatic F
- That's Zio's fort which soars just east of Kadary!
It is our symbol! It's our castle of hope!
- Old woman
- We, the believers of Zio, are the chosen people!
- Old man A
- Zio is at his Fort were he teaches and guides us.
How thankful we are to him.
- Old man B
- Only after the destruction can we create a new world!
- Priest
- No one other than Zio can save us from the uncleanliness
of Motavia!
Ahhh! Glory be to you, Zio!
- Fal
- He's fainted...
- Rudy
- How...how frightening.
(inspect fainted priest)
- Fal
- We can't talk to him now that he's fainted.
- Rudy
- This is scary.
Bar
- Hunter A
- Huh? You've got some guts to bring a woman to a place like
this, eh, Bows?
- Hunter B
- If you follow Zio we can show you a good time, just like this!
- Hunter C
- It's true that I don't have to worry about
money to feed myself, but my hands are definitely
becoming soiled...
I wonder if I'm doing the right thing?
- Guard
- What's with you? How dare you eye me like that!
Don't you know that we are Zio's subordinates, huh?
- Barkeeper
- I've just been running this place like a regular inn,
but one day, Zio's soldiers came...
They said to just put everything on a running tab,
but they never pay up ...boo hoo...
- Bunny woman on second floor
- Oh my? Such a little boy as customer?
How adorable.
I'm going to give you some great service.
- Rudy
- Huh? Wh... What are you talking about?
(inspect force field)
- Rudy
- It's an invisible barrier. We can't go forward!
(talk to Juza)
- Rudy
- You are...
- Juza
- I am Juza. Consider it impossible to get into the
presence of Zio. Unless you defeat me!
(approach Rena)
- Pike
- What's that?
- Fal
- Somebody's been captured... it's Rena!
- Rudy
- We've got to rescue her!
- Rena
- Who...who are you?
- Ryre
- Ryre Brangwin and company.
- Rena
- Thank you very much!
You are all injured, are you not?
Allow me, it's the least I can do to show my gratitude.
- Rudy
- Huh...? I feel strength welling inside me!?
- Rena
- It's my 'Medical Power.'
My name is Rena, and I am in charge of controlling 'Nurvus.'
- Pike
- Whew! I heard she was supposed to be an Android,
but this is beyond my expectations!
- Hahn
- She's no different than a human being!
- Ryre
- Be that as it may.
Rena, could you stop the transmission of energy to the
system that's malfunctioning?
it, right?
- Rena
- Yes. I, too, have tried to freeze the entire system,
but...
- Zio
- Go no further.
- Rudy
- Who's that!
- Rena
- That voice! It's Zio!
- Fal
- Wh...what is this? I feel...this incredible menace!
- Pike
- Zio! You son of a...!
- Zio
- Watch your tonuge son. So you thought you would sneak in while
the owner's out.
- Rudy
- Take a look at your own evil self before you dare put us
down!
Think about all you've done!
- Zio
- Hmmph. So I've wrought damage to Motavia.
What's wrong with eliminating worms.
- Pike
- Worms?
You dare call us worms?!
You...you... I cannot forgive you!
- Zio
- Heh, heh, heh. Now, now. That's the expression I want to see.
A face with pain and anguish, a face with fear pleading for
help, a face quivering with anger!
Go, on! Get angry! Suffer! Be sad!
That would truly be the ultimate offering to me and my great god!
- Ryre
- Your god?
- Rudy
- Son of a...! Blast! Come on!
Let's go everyone!
- Ryre
- Wait, Rudy!
Zio! Do you understand what's going on?
If we don't stop the systems that are running out of control,
Motavia itself is going to become uninhabitable.
You must let Rena...
- Zio
- Total annihilation of life, What a fine thing.
Death to all that has lives! Destruction to all that has
form!
That is indeed my desire!
- Rudy
- That's crazy!
- Zio
- My god does not allow any life forms in Algo!
Everything must be reverted to nothingness.
And I, with these very hands, will do just that!
- Rudy
- That means you yourself will be gone too!
- Zio
- If my god wishes that to be so that is also my wish.
- Hahn
- You... you're out of your mind!
- Zio
- Fun and games are over with.
Anyone who dares get in my way shall perish.
My humble self who has taken it upon myself to do the wish of my
god shall be cursed by thee.
Oh, the greatest, my one and only ultimate god, 'Dark Force'!
- Rudy
- 'Dark Force'?
(Zio casts Black Wave)
- Ryre
- Rudy! Careful! Ahhhh!
- Rudy
- Ryre?
- Hahn
- We're in trouble!
- Fal
- We'd better make a temporary retreat!
- Rudy
- I think you're right.
We...we've lost!
- Pike
- Blast it!
- Fal
- Rudy! It won't work! Even Res won't repair Ryre's wounds!
- Rudy
- No! Ryre!
- Hahn
- We'd better return to the nearest village, Rudy!
- Rudy
- Ryre... sniff
Ryre...
- Hahn
- I have no idea what these symptoms are...
- Pike
- It looks like she isn't getting any better.
- Rudy
- That Zio...there was something different about him from other
enemies I've fought!
- Fal
- She refuses everything. It's as if she's...
possessed by some evil power.
- Pike
- Damn you! Zio you devil!
- Hahn
- We can rescue Rena, if we shut down Nurvus...
- Rena
- No, that won't work.
Nurvus is located in the basement of Zio's Fort!
Actually, Zio has erected his fort on top of Nurvus.
- Rudy
- Oh, below that invisible barrier!!
- Pike
- So we'll have to defeat Zio after all!
- Ryre
- I...if only Rein were...
- Rudy
- Ryre! Don't talk!
- Ryre
- Rein should know... some way to do it.
- Fal
- Ryre, don't worry. We'll defeat Zio somehow!
- Ryre
- Now, listen. With what we have right now...
there's no way we can win.
We've got to do something about Zio's magic barrier.
- Rudy
- Magic barrier?
- Fal
- 'Magic'! That sort of thing should have ceased to exist
a thousand years ago!
- Hahn
- Come to think of it, Rein was indeed using some kind of magic!
Something called Flaeli.
- Ryre
- That's right...so if you can get the cooperation of...
Rein...ooo!
- Fal
- Ryre! Rudy, who is Rein?
- Rudy
- Oh, he's a disgusting, conceited jerk!
I hate to admit it, but we may have no choice
but to ask for his help.
- Hahn
- Didn't Rein go off somewhere with Grandfather Dorin?
- Pike
- If he's with Grandfather Dorin...
perhaps he's gone to the 'Ladea Tower.'
Because he was saying something about opening the gates to the
Ladea Tower.
- Rudy
- What's the Ladea Tower?
- Pike
- I'm not quite sure myself, but I hear it's located on a small
island beyond the quicksand in the east
Grandfather Dorin said that something important is there.
- Rudy
- How are we going to get across the quicksand?
How did Rein and Grandfather Dorin do it?
- Pike
- That's beyond me.
Probably that's where magic comes into play.
- Rena
- Don't worry. Leave it up to me! There's the 'Land Master'!
- Rudy
- The Land Master? What's that?
- Fal
- Do you mean to say there's still a Land Master in existence?
- Rena
- Yes, absolutely.
The Land Master, is an all-purpose armor-plated car
of an ancient civilization!
With a Land Master, crossing quicksand is nothing!
If we go to the Machine Center directly south of here,
I'm sure we'll find one.
- Rudy
- A Machine Center? Is there such a place?
- Rena
- If you come with me, you'll see.
- Hahn
- OK! In that case, let's hurry and get going!
- Rudy
- Will you stay here, Hahn?
- Hahn
- What? Ah, but...
- Rudy
- We want you to remain here and look after Ryre.
Also, you have a cute girlfriend here!
- Hahn
- Er...but...
- Rudy
- Ryre, I'm sure we'll find Rein!
- Ryre
- Rudy...
- Rudy
- Hahn, take good care of Ryre!
