- Ryre
- Rudy, we have work to do! Hurry up and get ready!
Hey, this is your first job since you've registered
as a hunter.
You'd better put your heart into it!
- Rudy
- I see, I'm not a trainee anymore.
- Ryre
- From this day on, you are a full-fledged partner!
We're off!
- Rudy
- Well, where are we off to this time?
- Ryre
- It's a bit far. We're going to Motavia Academy
in the town of Piata.
- Rudy
- Wow! So we're going to the town of learning!
I wonder what's happened there?
- Ryre
- Who knows? The message said 'Just come.'
We'll have to get the details once we're there.
- Rudy
- Since we're going there, I'd sure like to see
the sights of the Academy.
- Ryre
- How can you even think such a thing?
I'll leave you behind if you don't get moving!
AW 2284 The frequent outbreak of
monsters and those people called
hunters who have been called
upon to tackle this matter.
This was just an ordinary scene
for the planet Motavia.
Yes, even now...
Motavia Academy
Second floor (with only Rudy)
- Rudy
- Oops? I wandered around and now I've gotten separated from Ryre.
I've got to find Ryre...
- Young man C
- You, you are a hunter?
Please exterminate the monsters quickly.
- Scientist C
- You're the hunter that was commissioned by the principal?
A kid like you?!
Are you going to be able to handle it?
I'm not going to come help you if you start crying.
- Scientist D
- About a month ago, monsters began to appear in the basement.
It's so frightening, I can't even think about my research!
- Ryre
- Rudy, I've found you!
What are you doing, bumming around?
- Rudy
- Ryre!
- Ryre
- C'mon, follow me! We got to see the principal and get
details about this commission.
Second floor (with Ryre)
- Young man A
- If you're looking for the principal's room, it's way in
the back.
But recently, he's been acting strangely.I think he's scared.
- Young man B
- Here at Motavia Academy, we search for the truth of the
universe, and spread learning.
This is the largest research facility on the entire planet
of Motavia. What do you think? Isn't it grand?
- Rudy
- It looks like an interesting place, doesn't it, Ryre?
- Ryre
- Really? It doesn't stimulate my interest.
- Scientist A
- Once, there were three planets in the Algo solar system, but
during 'The Great Collapse,' one of the planets, 'Parma,'
was lost.
Now only 'Dezolis' and this planet, 'Motavia' remains...
- Scientist B
- Apparently, a thousand years ago we even had a ship that could
travel through space.
Now the only thing we can do is view Dezolis through a
telescope.
Ah! Just once, I would love to go to Dezolis!
- Rudy
- It sounds like a dream. Traveling to another planet.
- Scientist C
- Wow, hey gorgeous!
Why don't you go with me instead of that kid?
- Ryre
- Buzz off!!!
First floor
- Young man A
- Huh? You don't look familiar. Arrgh!
You sure are carrying a dangerous item there!
Don't get close to me!
- Ryre
- Hmmph! How rude!
- Young man B
- I'm studying history.
This planet has problems since the beginning.
What's more, now we have an abnormal climate, soil depletion,
a decreasing birth rate...
It makes me pessimistic about the future!
- Ryre
- You're too depressing.
- Scientist A
- I'm so scared of the monsters. There's nothing I'd like more
than to get out of here, but since the principal feigns
ignorance before the citizens, we've got to stay quiet.
- Scientist B
- A thousand years ago, our society was thrown into
confusion by the destruction of Mother Brain. On top of that,
Motavia sustained a direct hit by a fragment of the exploding
planet Parma.
The past civilization was destroyed.
We call this 'The Great Collapse.'
Oh, sorry about that. I didn't realize you weren't students.
- Scientist C
- For the last half year, there have been violent changes in the
planet's crust. There has also been an abnormal outbreak of
monsters!
At this rate, the planet will be doomed...
- Ryre
- Hey, it's not going to do any good just moaning about it!
- Hahn
- Ahh! I wonder what kind of person this hunter is that
the principal commissioned?
It would be nice if he's a dependable type of guy...
- Ryre
- ...He's not listening to anything people are saying.
Outside
- Woman
- I saw it!
In the middle of the night, some suspicious-looking men carried a
big parcel into the academy!
This happened some time ago, but I wonder what ot could've
been!
- Scientist
- We're still all right here, but apparently the wells are all
dried up in the village of Mile!
- Man A
- What's with you guys?
You're being way to too friendly!
- Man B
- No monster can get into this town, the wall surounding the
town will protect us.
That's why I think those strange monsters, that have been
appearing recently, must be appearinf from within the town.
I think there's something mighty suspicious about the research
going on at the academy.
- Young man by the fountain
- Well, I heard we jumped into this fountain the other day,
but I just don't remember a thing.
It must've been fun, though.
You guys should forget about your cares once in a while.
It'll do you good.
- Young man A
- My parent's home is located in a village call Mile northeast of
here, but recently I haven't been getting my allowance.
I wonder if they've forgotten?
Oh well,I better find some work.
Becoming a hunter, now that sounds cool.
- Young man B
- Just when it seemed that the number of monsters was
decreasing, they're now roaming in the town.
Do you think this is some kind of omen?
- Young woman
- I studying geology.
Recently, the soil quality has been deteriorating.
Crops won't grow at all on this farm.
My boyfriend,in the agricultural department, is in tears!
- Guards
- Orders from the principal. I can't allow anyone to pass
beyond this point!
Student dorms
- Caretaker
- These are the student dorms of the Motavia Academy.
Me? I'm the caretaker.
- Room 1's young man
- I've got a report due tomorrow, but I haven't even written
a page of it. Oh dear.
- Room 2's young man
- It's so much more fun lazing around here than going to the
academy!
- Room 4's young man
- The girl next door has been smitten by some strange
religion.
And she's been missing for a while.Where on earth did she go?
- Room 5's young woman
- Hey! I'm in the middle of undressing! Get out, get out!!!
Inn
- Innkeeper
- Oh my? A customer! How unusual.
Oh, excuse me. You see, this is a university town, so there
really isn't any need for an inn.
House 1
- Woman
- We've been telling him not to go outside after dark because of
the scary monsters, but...
- Boy
- It's only for a bit. It'll be OK!
You worry too much, Mommy.
House 2
- Woman
- The academy students, are so noisy day in and day out!
Like the other day, they jumped into that fountain,
Don't they think about being considerate to others?
I wish something could be done about them...
Motavia Academy
Principal's room
- Principal
- Wel...welcome.
I'm the principal of this academy.
Let's see, you must be Ryre, the hunter,
and you are her assistant, Rudy.
- Rudy
- Forgive me, but Rudy is an important, full-fledged partner
of mine.
Anyway, let's get down to brass tacks.
Describe the situation.
- Principal
- OK. It...it's like this. About a month ago...
Mysterious monsters started to appear within this academy!
It appears that they have made the basement their headquarters.
I've since closed it off.
So far we've been without incident, but who knows when
they'll appear again?
Please I beg you to destroy them all!
I'd like to settle this matter discrectly,
I'm counting on your talent and reputation, Ryre.
- Ryre
- No problem. You can rely on me.
Although, it's strange that they suddenly
appeared in this academy.
Usually monsters don't come into town areas.
Do you have any idea how this happened?
- Principal
- Of...of course, I don't have any idea.
Stop asking questions,
just hurry and exterminate those monsters!
After all, I'm paying you dearly for your services!
- Principal
- Good luck. I'm counting on you.
(leave the principal's room)
- Ryre
- Something smells fishy here. That principal is just too edgy.
- Rudy
- Maybe he's afraid of the monsters?
- Ryre
- I don't think that's the whole story.
Things are getting a little interesting!
First floor
- Hahn
- What? You're the hunter? Really?
- Ryre
- You mean you don't trust me?
- Hahn
- No, no, not at all! Really, that's not true!
- Ryre
- Since I have the principal's permission, let me pass.
- Hahn
- Wait! Take me with you!
- Ryre
- ...Hmm. Seems like there's a story behind this.
- Hahn
- I am an assistant at this academy and my name is Hahn.
Actually, a professor named Holt, whom I look up to as
my mentor,
has gone to investigate Birth Valley for his research.
We haven't heard from him since.
So, Now I am searching for the professor's whereabouts!
- Rudy
- Birth Valley... that's that mysterious valley
that has been called the sacred precincts of life.
- Ryre
- But what's the connection between the valley and this
current monster scare?
- Hahn
- After the investigation team led by the professor was
reported missing, the principal barred everyone from entering
Birth Valley!
We're trying to get information as to what's going on, but
he keeps evading the issue.
And then a month later this monster scare begins!
I'll bet anything that there is some sort of connection
between these incidents.
- Ryre
- Hmm, well it is true that there is something fishy
about the principal's actions.
- Hahn
- Given the circumstances, I feel compelled to investigate
the basement myself.
But come to think of it, it is kind of scary.... ha ha ha!
- Ryre
- So you were just waiting for me to arrive?
- Hahn
- Well, yes, that's the idea! You sure catch on quick!
- Ryre
- 100 meseta!
- Hahn
- What?
- Ryre
- I'll take you with me for 100 meseta.
I hope you weren't thinking of asking me to go for nothing?
- Hahn
- Er...I can't get any money even from the principal...
- Ryre
- They are completely different stories altogether!
Now, what are you going to do?
- Hahn
- ...OK, I'll pay....
- Young man A
- Hahn! Don't bring such uncivilized animals with you!
- Ryre
- Wow, what a disgusting jerk! Maybe I'll have a little fun
with him.
- Hahn
- Ahhh! Please put that away!
- Young man B
- I'm studying history.
This planet has problems since the beginning.
What's more, now we have an abnormal climate, soil depletion,
a decreasing birth rate...
It makes me pessimistic about the future.
- Ryre
- You're too depressing.
- Hahn
- I don't blame him. Recently, the rate of environmental
degradation has increased.
- Scientist A
- I'm so scared of the monsters. There's nothing I'd like more
than to get out of here, but since the principal feigns
ignorance before the citizens, we've got to stay quiet.
- Hahn
- Well, you're certainly trying hard to keep up appearances.
Basement
(inspect a bookshelf)
- Rudy
- Look at all this dust!
I can't read the titles on these books.
(reach basement 3)
- Ryre
- Wh..What's this...?!
(inspect a container)
- Rudy
- What...is this?
(inspect the broken container)
- Rudy
- It's broken...!
(defeat the Igglanova)
- Rudy
- We did it!
- Ryre
- Rudy! You're not at your best. Your swing is slow!
- Rudy
- What? But this thing now, I have to admit, is hard to...
- Ryre
- Don't be sassy!!
- Rudy
- Sorry.
- Ryre
- Now, Hahn? Come over here.
- Hahn
- What?
- Ryre
- What is this big glass bottle? Come on, tell all!
- Hahn
- Uh...It's....
- Rudy
- Hey, are you by any chance breeding monsters here?
If that's the case,
this monster business is no 'mystery' after all!
- Hahn
- I...I don't know anything!
It's the first time I've been in a room like this!
I've only just learned that such a thing exists at the academy!
- Ryre
- Umm....
- Hahn
- R...really, it's the truth!
- Ryre
- It seems like you're not necessarily lying.
- Hahn
- The principal should know!
He must know what's in this capsule!
- Rudy
- Also, he must know what the connection is between this
and the disappearance of Professor Holt.
- Ryre
- Hmm...that's splendid! I'm off! Rudy!
- Hahn
- Hey! Wait for me! Don't leave me here!
First floor
- Scientist A
- You've beaten the monsters?
What a relief.
Second floor
- Young man A
- Thank you very much! Now I feel safe!
- Scientist A
- Oh, you've done the job! Thank you so much!
- Scientist B
- They've defeated the monsters?! You mean that lady and the kid?
Oops, oh, it's nothing! Nothing at all! Ha, ha!
Principal's room
- Principal
- Wh...what's going on? You seem upset.
Were you able to defeat those monsters?
- Ryre
- Yes, but there is something I want to ask you.
- Principal
- What?
- Ryre
- Is it just my imagination that I saw some strange things
in the basement?
- Principal
- Ah...
- Ryre
- Hey, you're hiding something, aren't you!?
Somebody hiding something from me is the sixth most hateful
thing in this world!
- Principal
- You're putting me in a bind! All right already...
I'll tell all...
You are aware that recently, there is an outbreak of
a new breed of monsters?
- Ryre
- Oh yes. Thanks to the outbreak I'm not hurting for work.
- Principal
- Holt identified Birth Valley as the origin of the outbreak,
and it was three months ago that he went to investigate...
He says he discovered the remains of an ancient and
advanced civilization!
The investigation team brought back the monster breeding
capsules, and immediately set forth on their second
investigative mission. But...
- Hahn
- Not one of them came back...
- Principal
- That's exactly right, Hahn.
- Hahn
- And despite all this, you didn't send out a rescue
team and banned entry to Birth Valley!
- Principal
- No, no!
I...I was trying to send out a rescue team! But...
- Ryre
- Something happened?
- Principal
- At that moment, a man who called himself 'Zio'
appeared before my eyes...
- Ryre
- Zio! I've heard of him. That fake magician!
- Zio
- Ah, my dear principal of Motavia Academy,
how are you doing?
- Principal
- Who was that! Who are you!?
- Zio
- My name is Zio... Zio the black magician.
Do not intrude on Birth Valley.
- Principal
- What do you mean!?
- Zio
- In the future, if you ever let anyone set foot
in Birth Valley...
- Principal
- Aargh!
- Zio
- Let me make something clear...
There is no need for you to go to Birth Valley!
- Hahn
- It's related to the research team!
- Rudy
- So that's why the Birth Valley situation wasn't announced,
and also why you tried to keep a lid on the monster situation.
But...what is all this?
Remains of an ancient advanced civilization and Zio?
- Ryre
- It seems like these are signs of something to come.
- Hahn
- That darn professor! I'm going to Birth Valley!
- Ryre
- Hmmm.
This is egg-laying season for sand worms, so be careful.
Also beware of the wild beasts in that area.
- Hahn
- Er...Ryre?
- Ryre
- I'm not giving you one meseta more than 300 plus expenses.
- Hahn
- Well?
Birth Valley is to the northeast!
Let's hurry! ...sniff
- Principal
- ...are you going, Hahn?
Second floor
- Young man B
- If you're looking for the principal's room, it's way in
the back.
Outside
- Woman
-
Now that I look back, I wonder if there was some
connection between the parcel and the monsters?
- Young man B
- Apparently the monsters aren't appearing in town any more.
Thank goodness for that.
- Man B
- I heard those monsters were conquered by some hunter whose
name I've forgotten.
- Guards
- This is the university town of Piata.
It's a town for studentsd and academics.
House 1
- Woman
- Now, I can breathe easy and let my children go out to play.
- Boy
- Now that no monsters comes out it's no fun to sneak out in the
middle of the night!
Outside
- Ranch owner
- This is the village of Mile.
And this is our newly built sand worm ranch.
What do you think? Isn't it cute?
We're going to have a lot of tourists!
(inspect ranch sign)
- Rudy
- It says 'The Big Sand Worm Ranch.'
- Young man A
- Did you see the quicksand outside?
It's spreading and spreading!
How long is this town going to last?
- Young man B
- See that castle beyond the quicksand?
I could've sworn that one night there was nothing and the next
day it was there.
It must've been my imagination.. don't you think?
- Young man C
- You're looking for Birth Valley?
Then go to a village called Zema.
Zema is northeast of here.
But...
Recently, it's been rumored that there's no sign of any people.
Maybe they all fled at night?
- Woman
- In the past, the land around here was pretty fertile and
there was a lot of farming going on.
But now, the wells and fields have all withered away...
- Guard
- Total destruction of Zema!!!
Really?
Someone go and make sure.
I, uh, I'm too busy, so I can't go.
- Sweeper
- I sweep and I sweep, but the sand keeps blowing.
I'm sick and tired of this!
- Man
- You say that a strange religion is becoming popular recently?
They say it's being spread by a man dressed in black!
What did they say his name was...
Oh yes, Zio. Yeah, I believe they said his name was Zio.
Inn
- Innkeeper
- My husband built a sand worm ranch with what little money
he had, but who on earth would come to see something like that.
- Young woman
- I'm the only daughter of the innkeeper. Even if I can't do
much, I must work and help all I can.
House 1
- Young man
- I'm studying so that I can enroll in Motavia Academy too.
Hey, ladies, don't bother me!
- Ryre
- Ladies?!
- Young man
- Actually, we wanted him to keep the family far going, but...
What with the fields in such a state, I suppose there's no use.
House 2
- Old man
- Whatever field we try to cultivate, the soil just
becomes infertile.
- Woman
- Our only son is enrolled in the Motavia Academy,
but recently we've had a series of bad harvests and we haven't
been able to send his allowance.
We've been so worried whether he has enough to eat.
- Motavian A
- This is the Motavian village of Molcum, but...
Parmanians, go home! I won't let you enter!
- Motavian B
- Aren't you guys agents of that guy Zio?
(inspect stoned person)
- Rudy
- They've been turned into stone!
House 1 (basement)
- Boy
- A man wearing black clothes assaulted me.
- Girl
- Mommy said to hide here... What's going on outside?
Mommy...Daddy....Waaaaa!
Birth Valley
(inspect Professor Holt)
- Hahn
- Oh! Professor Holt!
- Rudy
- What on earth?
- Ryre
- ...An ancient curse?
You mean someone is able to cast such a spell
in this day and age?!
- Hahn
- Isn't there any way to restore them?
- Ryre
- I've heard that a medicine called 'Alshline'
is able to turn stone back to flesh.
- Hahn
- Where can we find it?
- Ryre
- I heard about it some time ago in a Motavian village...
But, we're talking some time ago.
- Rudy
- Which Motavian village?
- Ryre
- It's the village of Molcum, which is far south of here.
- Hahn
- All right, then. Let's get going!
- Ryre
- Let's see... if your're going to Molcum...
I'll give you an extra good deal ... just 500 meseta.
- Hahn
- ...You devil.
- Ryre
- Rein?
- Rein
- Hey, Ryre! Long time no see!
- Rudy
- Ryre, do you know this guy?
- Ryre
- From a long time ago...
- Rein
- Well, is shorty here is your current companion?
He's still a kid.
- Rudy
- Watch what you say!
- Ryre
- Stop it, Rudy!
More importantly, Rein, what's going on?
- Rein
- This is all the handiwork of Zio.
- Rudy
- Zio! Then perhaps the person who turned the people of Zema
into stone is also...
- Rein
- Well, your brain seems to work a little bit.
- Rudy
- You...terd!
- Ryre
- Cut it out! Anyhow, it seems that everywhere we go,
it's always Zio.
Who is this Zio?
- Rein
- I don't know?
- Rein
- But, how about Alshline?
What's going to happen with Alshline?
- Rein
- You're looking for Alshline?
In that case, you'd better go to Tonoe.
- Hahn
- Tonoe?
- Rein
- Let's see...from here, it's kind of far.
First, go to the village of Krup which is east of here...
And from there if you go north,
you'll find a valley that leads to Tonoe.
- Hahn
- We don't have to pass by Krup, do we?
- Rudy
- Why?
- Hahn
- A...anyway, let's just head on towards Tonoe! Ryre?
- Ryre
- We have no choice. I guess we'll go!
- Rein
- I'm going to invite myself to join your group.
I've got some business there too.
- Rudy
- Hey!
- Ryre
- Oh yes? That would be great.
- Rudy
- Ryre!
- Rein
- Good, we're all set.
And Shorty, try not to be a nuisance!
- Rudy
- Stop calling me Shorty! My na...
- Rein
- Rudy, that's what you said your name was, right?
Hmmph, what a cheap-sounding name!
- Rudy
- Ryre, I think he's going to be more trouble than he's worth!
- Rein
- Ha, I won't create problems for anyone.
- Ryre
- You already have.
- Hahn
- I'm a little uneasy about our destination. Ha, ha...
Outside
- Young man A
- This is the village of Krup.
Hahn! It's Hahn! You've come home!?
- Young man B
- Well, Tonoe is north of here but the road to Tonoe is like
a maze.
Moreover, the entrance to Tonoe is blocked by a large rock.
That's what I heard recently.
- Young man C
- What a pig this dog is!
Give it food and it'll eat and eat!
- Rocky
- Bow wow!
- Rudy
- Gee, what a dirty little mutt!
- Woman
- It's good to see you home, Hahn!
Saya will be overjoyed to see you! Go see her!
- Ryre
- Who's Saya?
- Hahn
- Oh! Er, well...
- Young woman
- I'm also confident our child will be safe with Saya.
- Man A
- This village's most successful citizen is Hahn, the armorer's
only son.
He's a professor at Motavia Academy
We're really proud of him.
What! Well, if it isn't Hahn!
- Man B
- That lake there? It was created by water filling a hole created
by a large meteorite crashing into the earth a long time ago.
Unbelievable, huh?
- Old man
- See that little island in the big lake near here?
The building on that island has been called
Soldiers' Temple since long ago.
Once, I swam over there, but there were monsters all over
the island!
It was frightening and I came rushing home.
See, here's where I hurt myself.
House 1
- Woman
- The other day, there was a tremendous amount of smoke
coming from the west!
I wonder if there was a big fire somewhere?
It's rather worrisome.
Krup, armorer's house
- Hahn's father
- Hahn!
Considering that you are disinherited,
you sure have some gall to step into this house!?
You don't help in the family business, you just study!
What use is that?
- Hahn
- Pa, right now, the whole planet is in serious danger!
I want to help with the power of science!
That's why I'm studying!
- Hahn's mother
- Hahn! It's good to see you home!
Pa goes on like that, but really he's very proud of you.
- Hahn
- I know, I know, Ma... But my feelings won't change!
- Shopkeeper
- The master talks like that about his son, Hahn, but...
It's thanks to Hahn sending us the scientific literature that
he has completed that a rural place like this is able to sell
such splendid weapons.
Tool shop
- Shopkeeper
- Oh yes. If only our son was as bright as Hahn next door.
- Young man
- It can't be helped, I don't think?
After all, being a child of that mother...
School
(enter the school)
- Hahn
- Saya!
- Saya
- Hahn! You've come home! I'm so happy!
- Hahn
- Saya! I've missed you!
...Let me introduce you to everybody.
This is my...ahem... fi..fiancee, Saya.
- Ryre
- Fiancee!?
- Saya
- It's a pleasure to meet you.
My name is Saya.
- Hahn
- Saya teaches children in her home.
- Rudy
- Wow...I'm impressed!
- Saya
- Oh, no, it's about the only thing I'm capable of doing...
- Hahn
- These people are hunters, Ryre and Rudy,
who are assisting me in my task.
So you are hunters. It's a difficult job,
isn't it, Hahn?
Thank you for taking care of Hahn, Ryre and Rudy.
- Hahn
- Now, don't you worry.
Everything will be all be all right.
- Saya
- But, if anything were to happen to you, I...
- Hahn
- Saya...
- Saya
- Hahn...
- Ryre
- ...Oh, you two...!
- Saya
- Thank you for taking care of Hahn, Ryre and Rudy.
- Boy A
- When I grow up, I'm going to ask my teacher, Saya, to marry me!
I made a promise to her! It's true!
- Boy B
- I...I want to use the bathroom, but I'll have to hold it
'til class is over.
I'm sick and tired of being teased and called silly names!
- Boy C
- I have a feeling that the recent ruinous environmental disaster
is due to the deliberate undertakings of one person...
- Rudy
- What a smart aleck kid...
- Girl A
- I want to grow up to be like my teacher Saya!
But I wouldn't like a guy like Hahn.
He's got to be more reliable!
- Hahn
- Ahem.
- Girl B
- My teacher Saya is kind and beautiful. I love her!
- Rudy
- Is Tonoe further along?
- Rein
- No sweat. This should be a cinch!
Everybody! Stand back!
Flaeli!
- Rudy
- Wow!
- Rein
- Shall we go?
- Hahn
- That art he just used. I've never seen it before?
The technique's different too.
- Rein
- Hee hee...I'm not surprised you've never seen it before.
This is what they call 'magic.'
- Rudy
- Magic!
Outside
- Motavian man A
- This is Tonoe...
Hey! You guys! How did you get in here?
- Motavian man B
- Yeh, I've heard about what's going on in Molcum!
That darn Zio!
- Motavian man A
- Our pride and joy is the refined art of Titanium.
I bet you've never seen a weapon of Titanium in towns in Parma,
have you?
- Motavian man D
- Oh sure, if you make all different kinds of things
you're bound to have many failures too.
Success is arrived at through numerous failures!
- Motavian woman A
- Parmanians like to go to war.
I refuse to get embroiled in battles started by people
like that!
- Motavian woman B
- Outta my way! Hey guys, stop roaming around aimlessly!
- Motavian boy
- Alshline?
I know nothing about it! But...
if you have questions, you should go to
Grandfather Dorin!
(inspect shop 1)
- Rudy
- This looks like food... But, I better not eat it.
(inspect shop 2)
- Rudy
- He's glaring at me... Better not get too close.
(inspect shop 4)
- Motavian
- Hey. It's a Parmanian! H...help.
- Rudy
- Don't worry, I'm not going to eat it.
(inspect shop 6)
- Motavian
- Hmm...
- Rudy
- Stop ignoring me.
(inspect shop 7)
- Motavian
- Oh? It's a Parmanian.
We ain't have anything to sell to you!
(inspect shop 9)
- Rudy
- It looks like they're closed today...
(inspect shop 10)
- Rudy
- Wow! Look at all this junk.
Are these actually articles for sale?
(inspect shop 11)
- Rudy
- This shop owner is asleep. I won't wake him up.
(inspect shop 12)
- Motavian
- You Parmanians, what have you come here for?
Go away, go away!
Inn
- Innkeeper
- Sir, you won't find anything behind the counter.
Tent 1
- Motavian woman
- My husband likes to sit lost in thought.
He's probably thinking about something somewhere right now.
Tent 2
- Motavian man
- If I may say so myself, I'm pretty good at making machines,
but I'm no good at cooking.
I'd like to bake a cake like this, but I wonder how it'll
turn out?
Warehouse (without Pike)
(inspect shutter)
- Rudy
- Oof...it's rusted shut!
Grandfather Dorin's tent
- Pike
- Argh!
- Pana
- You know, I lived in Molcum.
But one day, Zio attacked Molcum.
My brother fought valiantly, but...
he just wasn't any match for Zio.
My Mom and Dad both died.
My brother and I barely escaped with our lives...
- Dorin
- I'm the information monger, Grandfather Dorin.
What exactly do you want to ask?
Is it about the secret of refining Titanium?
(if you answer yes)
- Dorin
- I see. It is referred to as a 'secret'
and it really is a secret!
(if you answer no)
- Dorin
- You want to know why the path to this village
is blocked by a rock?
(if you answer yes)
- Dorin
- Ah. In preparation of a possible assault by Zio
we've closed ourselves off.
(if you answer no)
- Dorin
- Then do you want the measurements of that famous
and beautiful hunter Ryre Brangwin,
also known as the 'Eight Stroks of Ryre' ??
(if you answer no)
- Dorin
- Then if you don't have any business here,
stop talking to me.
I'm real busy.
(if you answer yes)
- Dorin
- Yes. Starting from the top, thirty-six, twenty...
Yeow! Ouch!!
Wh...what are you doing!
How dare you strike me without warning like that!
Huh? Yikes! Ryre Brangwin!
- Ryre
- You blabbing old fart!
Do you tell every single fool who comes here my measurements!?
- Dorin
- Ahh! Oh...Help me!
Oh, Rein!
It's you, Rein. Please help me!
Rein
You don't change, do you, old man!
Please excuse him, will you, Ryre?
The old man doesn't have any bad intentions.
I wouldn't put up with it if he had bad intentions!
- Rein
- Grandfather Dorin, I came to retrieve the thing
I entrusted in your care.
Also, these guys want to get a hold of Alshline.
- Dorin
- Ah, if what you want is Alshline,
feel free to take whatever you need.
It's in the back of the basement warehouse out back.
Go help yourselves.
- Hahn
- Thank you! Ryre, let's go!
- Dorin
- Oh, wait!
That place is unused right now.
So it may be a teensy bit dangerous.
Pike! Will you be a guide for these poeple?
- Pike
- Very well.
...My name is Pike. Nice to know you.
- Rein
- Well, I have some business with Grandfather Dorin here,
so I'll say so long here!
Oh yeah, pip squeak!
- Rudy
- I've had enough of you!
- Rein
- Don't get any silly thoughts,
like taking on Zio, into your head!
- Rudy
- Huh?
- Pike
- Guys...
- Rein
- At this stage of the game, you're no match for him!
So...perhaps our paths will cross again.
Ryre...
- Ryre
- Yeah.
- Rein
- Take care.
- Rudy
- Me...taking on Zio?
- Rein
- Thanks Rein.
- Pana
- You know, I lived in Molcum.
But one day, Zio attacked Molcum.
My brother fought valiantly, but...
he just wasn't any match for Zio.
Both my parents died.
My brother and I barely escaped with our lives...
- Pike
- Pana...I promise you that one day I will exact revenge!
Warehouse (with Pike)
(inspect shutter)
- Rudy
- Oof...it's rushed shut!
- Pike
- Oh, there's a little trick to opening this door.
Just hold here...like so... and then, one, two three, go!
- Hahn
- It opened!
- Pike
- Great, let's go in.
(inspect door on basement 4)
- Rudy
- The door is sealed shut tightly...
(inspect door on basement 4 from behind)
- Rudy
- Look how antiquated this is. The bolt won't budge an inch!
(open chest with Alshline)
- Ryre
- So this is Alshline!
- Hahn
- OK! Let's hurry and return to Zema and help those people out!
- Pike
- Umm... Do you think I can go along?
My own town was destroyed by Zio.
I couldn't save my father or my mother!
One way or another I need to get my revenge!
- Rudy
- Hey, Pike!
We're not necessary making this journey for the purpose
of conquering Zio.
- Pike
- But didn't that tall guy who was with you at the
beginning say something like that?
- Rudy
- Oh, that...he was just arbitrarily saying stuff.
- Pike
- Either way, I can't stay in this town forever!
I'm coming along even if you refuse to take me!
- Rudy
- Pike!
- Ryre
- C'mon, Rudy, there's nothing wrong with that.
Pike could be quite a help and...
after all, no one knows what's going to
happen from here on out.
- Pike
- Great. Once again... good to be working with you!
- Hahn
- Yeah, whatever. Let's get going.
(enter Zema)
- Holt
- Oh? Why, it's you, Hahn! By golly, this is some place!
There are just tons of relics from an earlier civilization
all over the place.
You've come at the right time. You too...
- Hahn
- Professor Holt! This is no time for that kind of thing!
Do you know you were turned into stone by Zio?
- Holt
- Hmm? Oh, really?
Well, here I am now, as good as new, so not to worry!
All right. Let's reopen the investigation immediately.
Hahn!
- Hahn
- Yes sir!
- Holt
- Go back to the academy.
Give them a report on the state of affairs here.
- Hahn
- Er...yes sir.
- Holt
- Good! We're off further into Birth Valley!!
- Ryre
- What a strange old man.
Oh well, at least we've settled one problem.
- Hahn
- I'm so sorry...he didn't even say a word of thanks.
Well, he's just that kind of guy.
- Rudy
- Oh, don't worry about that, Hahn!
- Ryre
- Well, I'm kind of tired after getting this job done.
Let's take it easy today, eh, Rudy?
- Rudy
- OK.
- Hahn
- I'm going to return to the academy.
I've got to report about what's been happening 'til now.
- Rudy
- OK. What about Pike?
- Pike
- You talking about me?
I'm going off to conquer Zio... even if that means me alone!
- Rudy
- Let's not be so rash!
- Pike
- I don't care whether it's rash or not.
I've already made up my mind!
- Ryre
- ...We've come to a good break point what with one job done...
Normally, at this junction we would go back to the town of
Aiedo where the guild is located.
- Someone
- Ahhhhh!
- Ryre
- What was that?
- Rudy
- Someone's screaming!
- Hahn
- Where is the professor, at a time like this?!
- Ryre
- We're going, Rudy!
- Rudy
- Here!
(defeat the Igglanova)
- Rudy
- Hmm...How is it now, Ryre?
- Ryre
- Well, it's a little better now.
- Village elder
- It's a curse! It's because we've violated the
sacred area that something like this is happening!!
- Rudy
- ...A curse...I wonder what's further inside?
- Hahn
- What's going on! The professor is still in there!
...Ah...
Er...Ryre?
- Ryre
- I'll keep to it 1000 meseta.
- Hahn
- ...M...my wedding fund...
- Old man
- This is Zema.
Birth Valley is located further on, but I think it's better not
to have anything to do with it.
- Man A
- The thing is, I just don't know what to make
of Birth Valley.
I hear it's a sacred area so I haven't gone too close to it.
Sometimes a groaning sound can be heard coming from there!
- Man B
- The bridge north of the village is broken.
I bet that's also Zio's doing!
Right now, we're fixing it as fast as we can.
You should be able to cross it shortly.
- Young man A
- We've got monsters appearing and Zio is coming...
Is this village cursed?
- Young man B
- Oh, so you're the guys who saved us. Thank you!
- Young man C
- It's because that investigation team came upsetting things in
Birth Valley that we're having problems!
We want the people from Motavia Academy to go back!!
- Hahn
- Hmmm...
- Woman
- A big meteorite fell beyond the bridge to the north!
It fell close to the village of Nalya.
I wonder if they're OK there.
House 1
- Woman
- I'm glad that everything is back to normal,
but I'm afraid that Zio is going to come back and attack us.
We have to defend the village, at least these children...
- Young man
- The moment Zio raised his hand, all I saw was blackness.
Then, when I came to, you guys were standing right there.
- Boy
- I'm glad, I'm glad.
- Girl
- I'm glad both Mommy and Daddy are OK!
House 2
- Young woman
- Because the bridge is broken my husband...
has not come back from peddling his wares in Aiedo.
I bet he's in a dilemma trying to get home!
- Boy
- That city, Aiedo, beyond Nalya, is a real big city, isn't it?
I'd like to go there someday.
- Old man
- Hmm, 'The Sacred Area of Life'...
Why is it called that, and why is it worshipped in that way?
I'm such a feeble-minded old man, I don't understand.
Birth Valley
- Young man A
- Ahhh...the monsters from the depths are...
- Young man B
- Professor Holt has gone into the depths and has not returned...
Maybe...it's too late...
- Hahn
- No...!
Bio-Plant
(red light flashes)
- Rudy
- Yikes! What's that!?
- Hahn
- We..we're going to die!
- Ryre
- Stop cowering! Men are such cowards!
It's nothing!
- Rudy
- That...that's true.
(inspect terminal A)
- Rudy
- There's some writing here...
'Sterilization Treatment Completed.
Please follow the line on the floor'.
(inspect terminal B)
- Rudy
- There's some writing here...
'Elevator W3 To the West Section'.
(inspect terminal C)
- Rudy
- There's some writing here...
'Elevator E3 To the Central Block'.
(inspect terminal D)
- Rudy
- There's some writing here...
'West Section Unauthorized Entry Prohibited Beyond
This Point'.
(inspect crumbled passage)
- Rudy
- It's competely sealed.
I wonder if it collapsed from the earthquake or something?
(inspect capsule)
- Rudy
- It's identical to the find in the basement of the academy!
- Ryre
- They must have transported those things from here...
(approach Professor Holt)
- Hahn
- Professor! Thank goodness you're safe!
- Holt
- Oh, it's you, Hahn! You came to rescue me! Good job!
- Ryre
- Well, it seems it's pretty safe here. But, how on earth
were you able to escape on your own?
- Holt
- Well, you see, this person here came to my rescue.
- Rudy
- Who?
- Fal
- Welcome, everybody. I'm glad to have you here.
- Rudy
- What?!
- Ryre
- Wh..who are you?
- Fal
- My name is Fal. Pleased to meet you.
- Rudy
- Fal.
- Ryre
- Those ears... What on earth are you?
And what is this place!?
- Fal
- This is the Bio-plant.
It's a research facility for bio engineering created by a
thousand year old civilization.
- Hahn
- Th..this is from an ancient advanced civilization!
Is it still operational?
- Fal
- Oh, yes.
What's more, this isn't the only one.
There are tons of other thousand year old systems that
have maintained their functionality.
And it's thanks to these systems which control Motavia's
climate, soil, and ecology systems that the human race was
able to avoid total destruction after the 'Great Collapse.'
- Hahn
- Really? Is that true?
- Holt
- If that's the case, how come this recent environmental
destruction is taking place?
- Fal
- Even though the control system is still functioning, it can
only barely maintain the minimal conditions for your
existence.
Even now this system is starting to run out of control!
- Ryre
- Rudy....do you understand?
- Rudy
- What? ...well....
- Hahn
- Then, does that mean the recent increase of Bio-monsters...
is coming from here?
- Fal
- Yes, unfortunately so.
...If you want to know more, talk to 'Seed'.
He's over there.
- Ryre
- 'Seed'?
So, where's this person called Seed?
- Fal
- He's right in front of you.
- Ryre
- What's going on?
- Seed
- I am 'Seed', the control computer for this Bio-plant.
- Hahn
- Wow! An artificial intelligence!
- Holt
- I...I can't believe it!
- Seed
- That's right, this is no exception. here.
It is out of control.
The system is beyond my control.
It is continuously breeding harmful monsters.
- Hahn
- Just as I thought.
- Seed
- If we leave each of these systems running out of
control... along with the monster problem, we will have
abnormal climate conditions and violent changes in the planet's
surface.
Motavia will be destroyed!
- Hahn
- What shall we do?
- Ryre
- The only thing we can do is shut down the system!
- Hahn
- But stopping the system itself will cause problems.
We won't be able to maintain the ecosystem!
- Pike
- That's better than the system ruining everything!
- Rudy
- But, these systems are spread out all over the place!
- Fal
- Don't worry. All we have to do is to shut down the plant
'Nurvus' which supplies energy to each system.
That will shut them all down.
- Seed
- First, please rescue the control android 'Rena.'
She's the only one that can stop Nurvus.
- Ryre
- Rescue? What do you mean rescue?
- Seed
- Right now, Rena is being held hostage by a man named Zio.
- Rudy
- Zio again!
- Hahn
- Who on earth is this Zio!?
- Seed
- I myself don't know what Zio is all about.
But, we do have positive information that Rena is being
held by Zio.
- Ryre
- So all we have to do is to rescue this Rena, right?
Where is she being held hostage?
- Fal
- In Zio's castle.
And the name of that castle is 'Zio's Fort'!
- Rudy
- Is that by any chance... beyond the quicksand of Mile?
- Rudy
- Oh, that sinister-looking castle!
The castle is north of Zema.
- Ryre
- It a pretty long way to go, but having heard all this we have
no choice.
Hee hee, it's been a long time since I've felt so excited!
And while we're at it, why don't we get rid of that
disgusting character, Zio!
- Pike
- Hey! That's good! That's the spirit!
- Seed
- So, you will go? Please take Fal with you.
- Ryre
- Who is this girl anyway? She seems curiously knowledgeable
about these matters...
- Seed
- She is...my child.
- Holt
- Are you saying that she is an artificial life form?
- Seed
- That's right. She is a product of a thousand years of
improvement on genetic information
from a prototype prior to the 'Great Collapse.'
I have also given her a basic education.
She will surely be a great help to you.
- Ryre
- All right, Seed. We'll take her!
- Fal
- Thank you!
I've always wanted to be able to see the outside world!
- Seed
- Fal, be safe...
- Ryre
- OK! Let's get going to Zio's Fort!
- Holt
- I must first go back to the academy!
We have to spread this information as much as possible.
- Seed
- There is only one way for me to stem the outbreak of monsters.
Now that I have sent into the world the fruit of a thousand
years worth of research,
there are no obstacles to its exection.
- Fal
- We're outdoors!
Wow, I didn't know the sky was so blue! These flowers...
they're so beautiful! How lovely!
- Rudy
- Being cooped up all this time in the plant, everything must
be so novel...
What was that?
- Ryre
- An explosion!
- Fal
- Seed!
- Ryre
- Fal, you must carry on the will of Seed!
You can't look back now!
- Fal
- I know...
