Lassic and Lashiec

Postby Lassic's Chllun » Tue Mar 01, 2005 4:47 pm

OK, so I was replaying PS4 and arguing with my friend over whether Lassic or Lashiec is tougher, and he said they weren't the same person! He says Lassic is pronounced like lash-IC and that he is smaller than Lashiec, which is pronounced like lah-SHEEC. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm pretty sure that would mean there are two identical Air Castles, a feat which I'm pretty sure would be pointed out in PS4.

In PSI, he was called "Lasheic" In PSIV, he was called "Lassic", but when you fight him, he is called "Lasheic". Your buddy is off his rocker.

You got it mixed up, Gipper. PSIV consistently calls him Lashiec.
Lassic and Lashiec are different romanizations of the same translation from Japanese. They are the same person.

What about the pronunciations? Are they the same? If I'm going to gloat, I'm going to gloat right.

PS IV's Lashiec ("la-sheek") is PS I's Lassic ("la-sick"), reincarnated. When we meet Lashiec in PS IV, it's presented to us through the dialogue that he'd been reincarnated and was waiting in Air Castle for 2000 years to get revenge on Lutz—whose will and memories, as we learn earlier on, are being carried on by Rune. PS IV takes place 2000 years after PS I, and it is mentioned in PS IV that Air Castle once floated the skies of Parma (Palma) long ago. The first time Air Castle comes into the picture is when Alis' party ventures there in PS I, at which time you are on the planet Palma. Moreover, Lashiec and Lassic look very similar; the differences in appearance could easily be attributed to Lassic's having been reincarnated (Rune inquires as to why Lashiec was reincarnated "like that") as well as to the transition from 8-bit graphics (PS I) to 16-bit graphics (PS IV).
[size=small][Edit by Mizehrith on [TIME]1109964141[/TIME]][/size]

It's all about how they are translated from Japanese... i.e. different romanisation.
It's similar to Noah/Lutz in PSI and PSII.
It is the same name, therefore the same person. Thus pronounciation doesn't really matter.

Well, if anyone wants to go to the trouble of getting me a japanese PSIV rom with a save state at the end of the air castle, I can end this debate. If they're spelled the same in Japanese, then you can gloat all you want. I know how Lashiec it's spelled in PSI, so if I can see it in PSIV, i can tell you. Same goes if someone can get a scan of a page of the compendium or something.
But I believe it's the same guy, US spelling or not. I think the difference is because (at least in PSI) Lashiec is spelled (in japanese)
Rashiiku.
Now, Lassic isn't the same as Rashiiku because Lassic would have a short 'i' sound.
Lashiec is closer because it implies a long 'i' sound and a longer sound at that. On speculation, I would have to believe that they are translated from the same Rashiiku, because why would the American PSIV Lashiec be closer to the Japanese PSI spelling if it weren't?
So I'd feel free to gloat unless someone wants to go to all the trouble of sending me a scan or screencap or something. In the end I think it will only prove you right anyway.

They are the same person in the compendium, And the worldships had 2 members of the La Shiec bloodline on them.
It is theorized that Rulakir had the bloodline, with the way DF clung to him and fed from him.
They are the same person..
COMPENDIUM INFO FOLLOWS:
AW 341 - La Shiec learns the secret of the Algol Solar System's genesis. Forming a space-time gate, he comes into contact with the sealed-away spirit-life form. As a result, he summons the projected body of the Profound Darkness, Dark Force, and becomes its loyal servant. That same year, a reign of terror begins.
AW 342 - Nero, investigating the reason behind La Shiec's transformation, is caught and killed at and by the hands of the special police. Alisa carries out his final wishes; she gains the help of Myau, Tyrone, and Lutz, and overthrows La Shiec and Dark Force. That year, when the governor of Motabia is told the news, Queen Alisa Landeel I is placed on the throne.
Air Castle (I, IV)
A castle in the sky built for La Shiec in the year AW 341. It cannot usually be seen with the naked eye due to the magic power used to cloak the castle.
Moreover, the black magic that created the castle in infused in the monsters inside its walls. When La Shiec is resurrected in AW 2284, he is half-zombified and needs the magic power inside the castle to survive.
[size=small][Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1109879669[/TIME]][/size]

...I find your post somewhat confusing, but Lashiec/Lassic/La Shiec/Ra Shiiku is spelled in kana the same way in PSI, PSII, PSIV, PSG1 and PSG2.
It's the same guy, the translation/romanization just sucked.
-Corey

Additional Compendium notes:
Lassic - La Shiec (Yes, the "s" is capitalized - it's "Ra Shiik" in kana, given the same way the last names of the PSIII crew are. While this probably could be romanized as "La Chic" or "La Sick" as well, I've followed in PSIV's footsteps, since its translations of previously-established places and figures are the most literal - if the most unfaithful to English naming conventions - of the series. La Shiec is actually his last name; his first is Reipard, if anyone's interested.)
La Shiec
The one who led the Algol Star System to ruin 2,000 years ago. He nurses a grudge against Lutz and has been resurrected as a zombie. He steals the Eclipse Torch and invites Rudy and company to come to his floating Air Castle.
Picture Captions:
[Rudy, Shiam, and Thray] A height comparison of Rudy, Thray, and Shiam. It's a rough sketch.
[La Shiec threatening Rudy] A height comparison of Rudy [and La Shiec]. Do you think he's changed much in 2,000 years?
[map of Motabia] Motabia 1,000 years after II; due to shifting of the earth's crust, the topography has changed a lot.
La Shiec
To lure Thray and his friends, he removes the dark force field enshrouding the Air Castle.

[size=small][Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1109880814[/TIME]][/size]
