PSII MMORPG! ^.^

yup yup! and it would also be playable offline (kinda like how Morrowind has a huge and free world like MMORPGs, yet it's offline.)
yup yup that's my really powerful idea!
The art style would be quite similar to PSII's, none of that dumb costumes/character designs from PSO games. but there still is character creatioN! whee hee! ^_^
There are 3 planets, Motavia, Dezolis and even Palma would be fully explorable! ^_^ huge huge explorable worlds with true to scale enviornments! space travel is possible and the requirements are not harsh like FF11 was. but since it's during PSII, space travel is pretty rare and forbidden. but there are ways around it.
:D
Basically, after ya pass through the start menu (which is quite identical to the PSII title screen. ya gotta create your character! yay!!!! :)
First ya gotta choose your species: Palman, Motavian, Numan, Android or Dezolian. The classes/jobs are not available for all species. although Palmans can be any of them.
The jobs are based on the main character occupations from PSII: (well these are brief sumary ideas)
Agent- these people have quick access to money, intel and many conveniences! Although their uniforms are pretty strict. shorts and leotards are a no-no! ^.^ They are the most balanced class in combat.
Hunter- Of course they are the tanks. And can use the bigger/heavier weapons too. They can't use Technqiues though. Blades are guns are their best friends. (guns require ammo, though, therefore balancing their advantageous range and power).
Doctor/Medic- They are weak in physical attacks but have strong healing/reviving techniques. pretty essential in tough battles.
Biologist- They have techniques that affect biomonsters, below average with physical attacks though. They are the 1st type of offensive 'magic' users.
Wrecker- The 2nd type of offensive technique users. They are the bane of machine-type enemies. and some machine type enemies are almost immune to physical attacks. so Wreckers are quite needed at times.
Guardian- These warriors are very good and accurate with ranged blade weapons like slicers/boomerangs as well as whips. They also can learn some useful support and lv. 1 offensive techniques.
Thief- Masters of stealing and quickness. They learn support, offensive and healing techiques. although their Tp is quite minimal. They are the only ones that can obtain very rare items that are impossible to obtain anyway else.
No Profession: Numans are kind of a class in itself. they excel with claws and are quite nimble. they can also learn techniques that sacrifice their own HP, TP and even life to revive others.
:::Of course ya can name them whatever ya want, basically. And their are many body, face and hairstyles to choose from. as well as all the colors of the rainbow to choose from for their hair and eyes.
Then, you must choose which planet to start in. Mota or Dezo or Palm.
Hmmm. well ideas for this is pretty intense so I'll try to be specific.
Some features would be that getting killed causes loss in EXP, but you can't 'Level Down'. everytime you level up the EXP meter resets to zero. in this manner, your new level is permanent until you level up again.
There are no level requirements to make good EXP in a party. a Level 1 player can party with a Level 50 player and if they beat a level 40 monster, the EXP reward is the same for both of them.
combat I would like as real time, but in a MMORPG with a super huge world and 100s of players, that would lag a lot. so it would be turn based but you can still move freely, and there would be dozens of attack combinations to choose from. the wait time between actions is less also, so it feels more real-time and exciting.
There are ways to maintain an enemy's attention away from the healers/nukers for a certain period of time, but overall battles are quite intense.
A party can have up to 6 members. And boss battles take place in separate dimension zones with the PSII blue grid enviornment. of course requirements are needed to access those bosses. and that leads us to:

Story Progression. There would be lots of things to do. but there would also be a story you can follow that is like a alternate timeline of the real PSII story. There are 3 branches with their own set of missions to be completed, and all 3 branches meet in Motavia, where eventually you meet and defeat NeiFirst, and the story gets very different from PSII's. Palm doesn't get destroyed. but you still can meet Lutz, fight Dark Force and Mother Brain, and see a surprise 'ending' that's quite different yet very shocking cause it's related to the 'real' PSII timeline.
Communication would have your usual open chat, private whisper, party chat, yell (everyone within the 'exit' boundaries of the area will see it), and Visiphone (you can talk to anyone from any range with the Visiphone codenumber. it's kinda like FF11's linkshell.
emotes would be in too! making your chaarcter look more alive and snuggly! ^_^
as for battle recovery, you can 'Rest' to recover HP/TP slowly. there would of course be day to night real-time changes. as well as weather. plenty of side quests to do also. and updated optional bosses for advanced players. but don't worry, Technique users won't have all the fun. each weapon type gradually learn special attacks that are really cool. and you can even select different normal attacks to execute, and there are PS4-style Combinations Attacks to be discovered also.
All the classic PSII enemies are there on the field in real-time and respawn some time after being defeated.

Oh yeah and equipped weapons, armor, etc. are visible on the characters.
Species that have multiplayer classes can change their class when they are in their own virtual apartment. You can also invite up to 5 friends to visit your apartment. ya can arrange furniture and the chairs/sofa are useable.
All the music from PSII would be in it and the tunes are not arranged or butchered. they sound very true. ^_^ but there would also be a CD Player option that lets you choose all the music you want to be played at anytime (except the added boss battle tracks and some other ones).
favorite NPCs are back like Data Memory Girl, Teleport Cutie and more and now some of them are used for various purposes.
The character statistics are still RPG style but there is no accuracy option. if your weapon physically touches the enemy, that automatically counts as a hit. statistics no longer dictate whether you hit or miss. PHYSICS do.
and this makes positioning and range during combat more important.
You can play 3rd person and 1st person. and the camera is fully zoomable and stuff. you can shortcut commands and stuff. Keyboard is very helpful.
No voicechat. this keeps everyone equal in terms of communication.
TRANSPORTATION: There are several ways, like paying a free to use the teleporter, or renting a vehicle to drive outdoors for a limited time. (after that it disappears in a ray of cool lines made of light).
getting killed, if the player decides not to get revived, they can warp their body to the Clone Labs and they'll be fully refreshed. they lose EXP whether they get revived or not, but they can't level down.
Item carrying is limited. You can store extra items at your home. There are many extra dungeons beyond the original PSII ones.
There is a place in the major cities where you can auction items of all types.
Leveling up would be pretty merciful at the start. but gets slower later on. yet aside from that there is lots of fun things to do. Hunter's Guild, Government Missions, Civilian sidequests, Treasure Hunting, and of course the optional Story quest.
>>>>>>>yet since it would be an ongoing MMORPG, the story will not really affect the Algo solar system physically, cause after all, it would be messed up if your homebase is located on Palm and it gets blown up. and you can't go there anymore, but you still get messages from friends who are there and haven't gotten to that Palm Blows Up part in the Story quests. :p <<<<<<<
Overall, the worlds are very huge and very beautiful. especially the character designs. they dont betray the PSII style yet they have an even more beautiful presentation to them. (kinda like how I admire FF11's designs compared to past FF games. yet I feel for PSII MMORPG, the designs need to be more anime-like. bigger eyes, more colorful and spikey hair, etc. etc.
well it's hard to explain but some artists have drawn the right style I like best.

I love your idea, Saner. But will Andriod/Cyborg (whatever your preference is) be an available class as well? And will characters be able to use skills like in PS4?

yeah I listed Android as a species/class. but they can basically only be Hunters. and they have zero TP anyway so it makes sense.
yeah and there are skills. they would be basd on the weapon type you use. the more you use it the more special attacks you learn from the weapon.
well there are two types of Weapon Skills:
*Special Attacks- these can be done once when your SP meter is full. which fills up as you hit enemies. you can also chain them with other people's Skills and Techniques for Combination Attacks.
*Style Attacks- these are a list of normal attacks to choose from, which lets you choose to strik the enemy in different ways. like for a sword. there would be a Downward Chop attack, a Side Swipe strike, a Double diagonal slash attack. you know moves to keep the action fresh, but they all still do the same damage basically. however like special attacks, you would learn more style attacks that do extra hits, so that's a bonus.

Heh, may I suggest an application process for players? Only problem with mmorpg's these days are all the ignorant people that exist for the sole purpose of ruining the roleplaying experience for everyone else. Whether it be meta gamers, or l33t freaks... they always take away from the fun. I was involved in NWN campiagns online a while back, and there was an application process for some roleplaying intense PW's (Persistent Worlds) to see whther or not an individual was suited to play on the server. Other than that, it's a great idea Saner2, I would love to see something like that someday. I would drop WoW like a bad habit.

lol. 4 lettered names? ^_^ the amount of players would outnumber the amount of possible combinations with 4 letter names. ^_^
oh ya and when you are creating your character, you hear the piano version music of when Rolf has that dream in the intro (I heard it over at rpgfan.com they have that track up for free.)
oh yeah and there would be a ARMOR STAT TRANSFER system.
this system lets you swap the statistics between your best armor to another piece of armor you own. This is helpful in keeping the armor you like the most while still having the best defense stats you have available in your collection. at the sametime, the previous armor with those stats will now have the stats of the other Armor, so this prevents cloning better armor stats. it's simply a convenience to keep wearing what you like without missing out on better defense pts.

Well, I like the circus, but I still think PSO costumes are ridiculous. *dodges Benoit* And that does sound like a good idea, except the 4-letter name suggestion. My full name is Nicodemus, and I enjoy people trying to pronounce that. Other than that, not a bad suggestion.

The only character classes in PSO that look like something you might see in a circus are the FOnewm and FOnewearl; two out of the twelve classes to choose from. But in all honesty, I'd have to say they look more to me like little Santa elves than anything.
But anyway, that does indeed sound like it would be alot of fun, Saner.
[Edit by Mizehrith on [TIME]1109192117[/TIME]]
