Phantasy Star: Nial Edition

Postby Rich666 » Sat Mar 22, 2014 5:11 am

I am playing the Nial Edition hack of Phantasy Star 3 on my PSP, I had the sound off but was regularly save stating the game after I did anything fairly important. Later on I put the sound back on to find I can't hear the game making any noise at all apart from a long single note/tone in place of any actual sound affects or music. It had all the right sound to start with though so I assume it glitched at some point

Am I missing out on much if I have no music in this game? I mean I can always listen to other stuff while I am playing the game anyway, but it is kind of a kick in the nuts that it stopped working.

I tried playing the normal version of the game but honestly it just feels somehow boring compared to Phantasy Star 1 and 2, I hope the stuff later in the game is better because of course I only made it to the second generation once.

The Music in Phantasy Star 3 is pretty nice, some dislike some though, and what is the Nial Edition hack like ? I heard that Draconia has becoming a really challenging place, I wonder if they have new enemies or have they put in harder enemies you would find later ?

I've not gotten very far so I'm honestly not sure, I've also never played much of the original version so I wouldn't know much of a difference sadly (I changed to the hack because I found it way too slow). I just wanted it to hurry the hell up a bit more with double MST and EXP, like the Numan Revolution hack for Phantasy Star 2 (I have played the original of Phantasy Star 2, and loved both versions!), I'm honestly not really enjoying 3 much, but I really want to, it's an odd feeling.
I also played both the original and Hordes of Nei hack of Phantasy Star 1, but Lassic is impossible due to there being 3 of him in the battle for some reason. Up to Lassic though that versions is fun too.

But back on topic somewhat, I'm just wondering whether to start again on the normal version of 3, and just not play it in such long sessions this time around. I did notice when comparing it to a walkthrough though that the prices and items in shops has changed a lot.

Yeah that was pretty much my reaction, and hey I am all up for a difficult fight but when it comes down to luck (and it DOES with 3 Lassics) it's no longer fun for me anymore, the only tip I read was constant save stating and hoping all the hits were low damage ones, which as I say isn't fun to me. Hell knows what the final boss is like!

A lot of changes in the Hordes of Nei were pretty good though, my fave one was that all bosses drop something equipment wise, the demon in your dream is an actual battle (which also drops an item) so that's one extra boss I would say too.
