Laya's healing magic is strong, but she's very one-dimensional. Myau, on the other hand, is arguably the most important character in PSI. His healing, ability to disarm traps and put up a WALL, and his attack make him one of the most well-rounded characters in the history of Algo.

I vote for me lol.

Laya never really impressed me all that much to be honest and I preffered to marry Alair with Nial.

Myau is awesome. I wonder why there was never a muskcat character in any other phantasy star. I would have had one in PS3. Just to break things up a bit.

I also wonder to this day, why SEGA didn't sue Pokemon. Look at PIkachu!!!! He is a blatant rip off of Myau.

Ehhh...sort of, I guess. There's somewhat of a resemblance, but not nearly enough to win a lawsuit, in my opinion.

There are, just not as playable characters. You have the ones that wander around Skure Spaceport in PSII, and you have "Old Man" (is is Myau? Was this actually determined in the Japanese version and left out of the English version for some strange reason?) in PSIV.
