What languages do you speak ?

I think it's nice to learn a new language, but when you understand the most popular language in the world, it's not mandatory to learn something unpopular like Swedish -- unless you're traveling or planning to be some kind of interpreter.

I've done some Japanese, German and French. Haven't studied them in a while.

Damn. Yet again I have to agree with you.
But learning Spanish, French and Japanese can be useful. Just because those languages are quite common too. I could also mention Chinense, but you only need it in China.
But with english you can manage in most cituations.

Is that a scent of Swede-hating I smell? I'll have you know that we are very... Um... very... Vad var det nu det hette... Clever! Oh yes. 8)

Even though I was born Swedish I think I know and like English a lot more. Swedish poetry just sounds pretentious to me, and even worse is music in Swedish. Yuck.

On a side note, I also know near-fluent Latin  (Look at me! I know a dead language! )

I really don't know where this originally came from, but we finns have this "tradition" to joke about swedish men: they are all gay.
Like for example in conversation:
- "Duh. Did you see that guy. He was obvoiusly gay."
- "No wonder mate. He spoke swedish."

And as long as I have lived this has been a common topic in jokes.
Even at television.
