Quick Tales of Phantasia question

In Tales of Phantasia (the super nintendo version), you have to press A, B, X and Y at the same time at the title screen to get the hard mode. My question is, that after I started a new game with hard mode, do I always have to press A, B, X and Y at "continue" for the game to be on hard mode? Or does it only matter the first time you start a new game and hear "Yata!"?

I think you have to press them only once. I have never even finished the normal mode. I get stuck in Morlia cave :^P

Ah okay, thanks. If you're having trouble in the Moria Gallery, you can always try checking the walkthroughs at rpgclassics or gamefaqs. I got lost the there too the first time I played. I hate the levels that have no light.
