Your opinion on a PSV

Postby Edless » Mon Sep 24, 2007 1:15 pm

I've been wondering for quite a long time now and I already have my opinion on that but I would like your opinion on that question.

Do you think there is still place for a PSV in the Algo solar system?
Do you think a PSV could be a hit with a turn based system?

Is the genesis PS definitly over and replaced by PSO and PSU?

What are the pros and Cons?

I dunno... PSIV seemed to tie things up pretty nicely. In order to make a PSV more stuff would have to happen, which would just seem off after such a final ending in Algo.

Just my opinion though.

well, i want one, and to be honest i don't give a shit what the general public want. the general public wouldn't know a good game if i hit them with it. i want a good game, not a marketable game.

I'm not sure what i'd want from it, though. I'd find it boring if it was just killing Dark Force again. at the same time, if too many things changed, it just wouldn't feel the same. I'd enjoy a game set on Algol because it's a large, varied world that's fun to adventure in, and because i'm familiar with it and care about the little details of it. SO3 is a good example of a successful sequel. I really liked the way in SO3 there was an enormous database of information about the Star Ocean world, they still recognised the old games and they managed to make a completely new game but still make it in the same world and tie in with the rest of the series. I think it worked because the Star Ocean world is so huge, there's plenty to do in it. Sega need to take advantage of how big Algol actually is - it has three planets, one resurrectable dead planet, several space stations and one floating castle.

Just my opinion though.

That sums up my thoughts for the most part. :)

However, I believe that finding room for a sequal would mean either:
    - Making more plot holes in the story just to squeeze it in!
    - Looking for things in the other games that could possibly contribute to continuation.
    - Trying to come up with something original in terms of story, but something that would work with the other games. (exclude PSIII if desired, I don't want it touched anyways :D)
    - All the above to some extent.

I would very much like to see a PSV, but realistically, I doubt it'll be done. We're more likely to get more PSU stuff, in my opinion. But that's not to say that there can't be a fan-made PSV!

Yeah, that's why many people are designing their own. :)

I couldn't agree more with that assessment. And if they did make a PSV I would hope to god they didn't completely slay it by turning it into some hacker/slasher type game trying to make it appeal to the kiddies. Nowadays people don't want to think about anything when they play games, they just want to blow sh*t up and get that instant gratification. Lack the patience or perseverence to level up, hike though complex dungeons/mazes, and have to work for things.

Sadly I think the days of truly great RPG's are extinct. Sure I would love to have them make a PSV, but have a resounding feeling that if they did they would try to cater to the people I described above and it wouldn't live up to the originals in any way, shape, or form.

The Nintendo DS would be the perfect system for a new classic style PS, in my opinion.

Couldnt agree more Amwhere.
I think that a sequal isnt really what is needed.
Probably a prequal showing an early adventure, like Alys and Runes first meeting things like that would be cool.

For me PSU should be remade and fit more into the world of the original PS.

I can't really decide on this for some reason, on one hand the PS series is great as is. Perhaps a remake of PSIII is in order as it desperately needs one. But other then that PS series should be left the way it is (PS1-4).

However on the other hand I'd absolutely would love to see a PS5. Maybe a new villain now that dark force was finally defeated in PS4.

Ah, same opinion here! The general public really seems to only enjoy games of insane destruction and violence these days... I think I may have mentioned this in an other topic, but what ever happened to good story and characters?

As for a PSV, A agree that it should be made. Screw the general public, a new Phantasy Star game should be made just for the fans of it which are sane. I'm all for a new game! PSIV was awesome and a PSV would be a nice addition to the series. I would also prefer it in an old PSIV style with some better grapics and more opinions. Maybe, Chaz and Rika's child would be the main character to face another evil other than Dark Force or the Profound Darkness which was defeated. They may have even not have been defeated but I prefer a new and original enemy besides them. Perhaps a guy like Zio only stronger?

I agree, as I said before, I wish there where a new PS based on Algo solar system.

It is just that it has so much potential with its different races (dezolian, parmian Motavian and droids).
I mean, of course elves and alikes are nice character but, you just see them everywhere whereas the above mentionned races are just a unique element of the PSs.

Plus, I really want to travel space again, find spaceships, scooters, hydrofoil and so on.

I believe a sequel could be made on nintendo DS which has the advantage of the ability to do some old fashionated game but with a totaly new aspect added thanks to the touch function.
Moreover, it has been largely sold everywhere now.

I would love to see a PSV. I think it would be awesome to see how the universe operates without Dark Force. I mean, there will still be corruption within governments and such.

Also, how will government play out? Will Motavia be united when the land finally gets better? (Cos no one is screwing with the systems anymore.)

And there's the bigger questions that still need answering: Did Rolf and co. survive from II? Howzabout an ancestor or something? How does Rika and Chaz' relationship go? (I've always wondered what her lifespan is compared to his.) Will Lutz still reincarnate? Is there room for espers in a world without Dark Force?

And on and on... Although I honestly don't think it will ever be made.

So many little things left unanswered in each game, little things left to be elaborated upon some other day or game, and yet they still haven't made the fifth... Whoever said to put it on the DS was right in that it's the perfect system to stick it on, since you could fit two or three genesis games on a single DS cart nowadays, and handhelds are perfect for grinding levels and getting through complex dungeons. I completely agree that a fifth should be made, and if it is made, then they'll have all the old fans running to get it, as well as the "online" and "universe" crowds after it as well, along with all the RPG junkies that peruse the shelves of EB-games and all the other stores that happen to sell games in large quantities. It's not like they'd be making it as a favour for only a couple thousand people. The game would be a total HIT. I don't see how it hasn't been done yet, and Sega is nuts for sitting on this for so long. We need a fan game for this lol. I still have my old genesis sitting hooked up to a T.V. that has to be 20-25 years old by now in my room, with a Phantasy Star IV cart sitting in the system, so it's not like the games don't have replay value either. This game could be relatively successful, and as such is completely viable, and I really hope to God that they don't butcher it like you guys were mentioning, since that would just be too big a blow to my gamer-hood.
160 characters is not enough room to put anything of value into my sig. The best quotes are a little longer than that.

The fifth one should be about the androids. But yet I don't think Sega is very good at spin-offs at the moment. Now is not the time.

Why androids? I mean, they're sexy, but there are already so many games featuring androids, mecha, people with big power suits who don't appear to be capable of taking them off even to pee etc. I think they should focus on the Musk Cats. They're unique to Phantasy Star. What other series has a cat as a player character?
