Remake release pushed back?!

Postby zoothe » Tue May 04, 2004 2:54 pm

I don't really know how to feel about waiting another year for the PS remake. I do like the idea of having all three remakes combined in one release, but I hate waiting!! Plus, Conspiracy games is basically waiting for the other remakes to be finished, so that Q1 2005 could end up being pushed back even further if there are any delays in Japan!

Not to open another can of worms, but...
Didn't you already have the Japanese version?

Yeah, but remember; I can't read Japanese... AT ALL. I'm about 14 hrs into the game (looking for the Laconian Sword on that island dungeon) without being able to read the story, and a lot of times guessing when it comes to magic, items, and other things. I'm not getting the full gaming experience. I only got the Japanese verion so I could play it as soon as possible.

[Edit by zoothe on [TIME]1083713315[/TIME]]

The release date for the remake having been pushed ahead really doesn't surprise me. The release date for several other games that I've been really looking forward to have also been pushed ahead many a time. Star Ocean 3, for instance, went something like Oct. 2003 > Dec. 2003 > Feb. 2004 > Mar. 2004 > Apr. 2004, and finally to June of 2004.

Yeah, I know the feeling. What worries me the most is that they'll never get released in the US.
Back in the day of Genesis and Sega CD, I was all about console systems. As I grew up, I strayed from them, and then video games all together. Only recently have I regained interest in anything new in the console world. And as I research some of my favorite franchises, I discover more and more how many good games never reach the US. All it does if frustrate me, and yet I have to feel lucky *if* we get the PS1 remake? Or Tales of Rebirth? Or Shining Tears? Or any of the other promising titles coming out in Japan? It's a bunch of crap. I hate the US gaming industry and the Japanese companies who don't release their games in America.

[Edit by zoothe on [TIME]1083744172[/TIME]]

It's a waste.
Patience is a virtue, as always.

None, I'm afraid.

I wanted to play the game and didn't want to wait. Patience is a virtue, what a joke.

Its up to him what he spends his money on.
Also, there is such a thing as having something for collecting purposes. I have an old batch of Akira comics that I found for cheap. They are all in Japanese, but I dont really give a shit. They make nice wall decorations

[Edit by Cherok on [TIME]1083798753[/TIME]]

Also, there is such a thing as having something for collecting purposes.

Yes. A point I forgot to make. I also own the Japanese versions of PSII, PSIII, PSIV, & PSCol just for their collector's value. Also, the Japanese release of PSG:1 came in a limited edition collector's box.

Zoothe, if you bought the Japanese Phantasy Star G1 for collector's value, that's not a problem -- it just shows that you are a true Phanatic. :)
But the basis of my argument is why you would just buy a game that's in a foreign language just to play it, as well as buy the English version when you could've just waited until the English version came out. If it was me, I would've waited until it was released over here in Europe, so that I won't have to pay extra for the import versions. Now that I know that you collect PS titles for their collective value, I will retract my statement.
I also understand your frustration that some great RPG games from Japan don't arrive into the West because I feel the same way as you do. I was annoyed that the rest of the SFIII scenarios didn't get translated, and that Sega of Japan had no plans of releasing them in continents such as North America and Europe. I bought them anyway 'cause I had so much fun with the English Scenario 1, that I just wanted to play all of them -- even though I couldn't understand Japanese. Guess that contradicts what I just wrote to you previously. >_<;
I want to apologise to you if I offend you somewhat. I didn't mean to get you on the wrong end of the stick as I was only opposing you only because that it was a friendly debate, not to brand you as an idiot.
No hard feelings, eh? :)

[Edit by ThePeaGuy on [TIME]1083855214[/TIME]]

Here's a point for you both: Because I can and I wanted to. At least now I have a basis for my opinions regarding the remake (not that that's the reason I got it).

A basis for your opinions? Yeah, right. You just saw the graphics and heard the sound, while the most important part in an RPG is dialogue and plot, which you couldn't understand because it's in Japanese.

I wanted to play the game and didn't want to wait. Patience is a virtue, what a joke.

It's not a joke. It's called wisdom and being mature. Patience will be rewarded. And it did for people who waited; the game is coming out in the US and Europe, and they will get a game they can understand, probably even bundled for a lower price.

A basis for your opinions? Yeah, right. You just saw the graphics and heard the sound

I already know the story. How else was I able to get as far as I have with no use of a Walkthrough? Yeah it'd be nice to know EXACTLY what's being said, but knowing the PS1 original so well, I get the jist (sp?). And you forget that playing a game is more than "seeing graphics and hearing sound". It's also gameplay. And in this case, it me being able to compare the two games in most aspects. Don't try to downplay my opinions on a game that I've played and you haven't.
As for patience and maturity. Get over yourself. How does getting a video game early make me less mature? At least I don't sift through these threads looking for arguments to start.
