What's the PhS remake?

Postby Benoit » Thu Feb 12, 2004 10:55 pm

They aren't thinking Phantasy Star. Look at the post I posted in the other PSI Remake thread:
"They actually have given up on the original series. The only reason we are seeing these remakes is because there was a high demand for it, and a third party company is funding Sega for the job.
This was no initiative on Sega's part at all. "

Low costs. Easy money. That´s the only thing that can move Sega to any directions these days.

Not without reason, though. They have to make profit. They really need it. And what better way to do it by following the standards, that is, half-crappy games?
But Sega doesn't really do all that. For a part, yes. But it made Billy Hatcher, a decent game, and Sonic Heroes, which definitely wasn't cheap. Other projects are also up.
You don't have to see Sega that bad.

What I don't understand is why remake 4? There is nothing they can do to that game other than fancier graphics. It was a solid game. (even square didn't dare mess with Chrono Trigger when they brought that out for a "higher system"

I'm hoping that's all they will do. With Phantasy Star 1 and 2 I can see that there is room for improvement, however PS4 is a masterpiece as is.

I think it would be great if PS4 was remade with better graphics exploring the planets. They would also have to make sure that the characters were slower but knowing me I would still probably prefer the original. :)

I can't check it out: I'm not an ign user and I don't have a credit card. From what all of you have been discussing, I'm guessing:
One of segas branches or another company has been asked to make a remake of the PhS series and get some percentage of the money
The company tried to make it more appealing to the modern gamer and ended up making the game stupid to the eyes of fans and great to the eyes of other people.
Am I on the right track? Btw since I can't access very much of igns things can somebody tell me what the features are in the remake?

The onmly thing I want to see happen to PS4 is have it imported to a handheld game cartridge and without all that crappy stuff that happened to 1,2, and 3 on the GBA. Its the only thing I want to see changed and if they do that it will be the day i buy a GBA

PSII and PSIII have been ported well. It's just PSI that got some bugs, of which a chrash bug.
I can't judge on the sound, however. It seems lacking, but it is said that it's because of the GBA's speakers.

So yeah, it's probably the GBA's speaker.
I've played the remake (imported and modded my PS2) Its good for what I've played of it, I don't understand japanese so I have no idea whats going on but I like the way the system works now. If someone hasn't played PS1 yet they will love this verson. Really reminds me a lot of PS4... Atleast the battles and cut seens.
Alis was 15 in the original, but she definately looked more like an adult. Just look at my avatar compare to the pics.
IGN doesn't have any music. They do have a gameplay movie, but it was giving me errors when I tried to view it yesterday.

Haven't seen the boots?
In the original, she was 15.

I don't see what you're complaining about, Benoit. From the looks of things, her character design hasn't changed one bit. The only difference I see is a tremendous increase in detail. Which I would consider to be a good thing.
Beyond that, most people wouldn't sympathize so easily with a character that isn't pleasent to look at, and that's why they make them attractive.
Still, I would consider Alis' costume to be both conservative and pleasing. It seems to me that the character designer did a good job of finding a balance between respectability and attractiveness.
