It's kind of odd...they make PSO Ep.1 and 2 for the Gamecube and X-box exclusively, and then they release the remake on Playstation 2. It proves my point that PSO's audience isn't necessarily the same as Phantasy Star 1 through 4's audience. I've went to plenty of forums were people didn't even know there was an original Phantasy Star...makes me sad when classics go unappreciated.

What proves my theory even more is PSO Ep.3. It's a card game (and I'm not saying that's totally bad) but I think Sega is trying to appeal to the younger generation, and by that I mean all the 9 year olds that play Yu-Gi-OH (no offense intended to people who play Yu-Gi-Oh). I bet almost anything that most of those kids don't even know that theres the classics. Another thing: since when did Phantasy Star leave the RPG world?! Sure, PSO Ep.3 may have some RPG elements to it, but it's essentially in the card dueling genre now. If anyone has played a demo...please tell your opinion...

Theres a demo? Where o_O I would liek to try it :P But I agree every game I know is coming out that I will like has a card game feature or is a card game, SF1 remake, KHCOM, PSO Ep3. And there are others... Its just so dumb.

What the hell happened with my post here? I'm sure I posted about the dates and the publisher of the remake. Oh well...
The PSI remake IS coming out in Europe. Conspiracy Entertainment is releasing it in the US and in Europe. I forgot the somewhat exact release date, but expect it to releas in 2004.

Ok thank you for the info, hope i can get a PS2 by the time it comes over to the U.S. lol

Why buy a console for a shitty game? Rent it.

It's kind of odd...they make PSO Ep.1 and 2 for the Gamecube and X-box exclusively, and then they release the remake on Playstation 2. It took the PS2 ages to catch up on that department. Not to mention that Yuji Naka absolutely hates to program for the PS2.
The remake is published on the PS2 because that's where the RPG-loving audience is.
Simple as that.

I know what you mean I was talking in RO about PS4 and this wizard comes up to me and says "Talking about PSO?" The game is very strategic, and you wouldn't be able to follow the plot when that young, which takes me to my next point. It has plot/story. In fact, it's full of it. Definitely makes it an RPG, cards or not, since it's still turn-based and with EXP.

Not that I'm dissagreeing with the PSO having a different audience than the original series ('cause it's true) but the reason the remake is for PS2 is becasue that is what the PS2 is for in Japan. They have all the Sega remakes (Space Harrier, Golden Axe, Gain Ground), Capcom and Cave have redone alot of their old games (DodonPachi, Street Fighter2 collection, Shienryu), hell, even Hudson has done a few remakes of their old PC Engine games (Bonk's Adventure, for example). It's just the system for retro gamers. (Rygar, Contra, Rastan: Warrior's Blade, there are tons)
(and as both an owner of an NTSC-J PS2 and a retro gamer, I love it!)

I have the Phantasy Star remake for PS2! It's great! And no, this could NEVER be a PS1 game. Yes, the game is in 2D, but the quality of the 2D graphics is amazing. It's high-res and looks BEAUFITUL. Overall I am quite happy with the remake so far, although a few cool details have been left out. It's really a wonderful game... You guys will like it when it comes to the US. If you have any specific questions about the game please feel free to ask.

[Edit by Evilhead on [TIME]1077503771[/TIME]]

Hell, even the Saturn could do it, which was a 2D-designed console to begin with...

It's really a wonderful game... Prepare to actually be able to read the game text...
