I can't say about whether they are heroes or not, since I don't share the same definitions as other people.

Still, the ordeal they have withstood is nothing short of (EDIT: EXTRA) ordinary.

They have kept calm, even in the initial stages when a rescue was not something certain. The toll over their minds because of being buried alive is not something trivial. Some of them have shown harsh infections in the mouth and who knows where else.

Also, costing money because of the incident was not their fault. If anything, it is the mining company's.

To be honest, just keeping their heads in their places in that situation is enough to classify them, especially the leader or leaders down there as something extraordinary.

To be honest, I'm overcome with joy for their rescue.

Yes, this is how I feel. Heroes? No. Courageous people going through extraordinary circumstances? Yes.

I'm not exactly sure what makes a hero, now that I think about it, but in circumstances like this, extraordinary survival instincts kick into overdrive in most people. Who knows; I might suddenly become a fantastic leader in this kind of situation, too. Which isn't to downplay the miners' efforts. I'm also elated that they've been rescued. Mining rescues rarely end well.

If people want to call them heroes, though, I have no problem with that.

I tend to be disinterested in this kind of stuff.

Yes, the miners are rescued but life goes on. That's how I view it.
