Square Enix are greedy twats

I'm a bit miffed at Square Enix's reluctance to support the Virtual Console with their RPGs. It'd be nice to see the Soul Blazer trilogy or Chrono Trigger available for download.

This is what Square Enix rep Shinji Hashimoto (aka "big dirty coward") had to say in an interview with Nintendo Dream, some Jap Nintendo mag:

"We feel that the Japanese game market still requires [physical] media. Also, FF and Dragon Quest are played by a wide range of users, from children to adults, so there are limitations when you consider the problems that we would have with billing systems."

Translation: Buy the shitty PSP if you want to play Final Fantasy I & II. As long as consumers are willing to play nearly full-price for our re-released older titles, Nintendo's pricing scheme can kiss my fat corporate arse.

I hope they crawl in a corner somewhere and die. (I'll still buy FF13 for the PS3 though. :P)

What problems with billing systems? Are they talking about things like credit cards? You can just enter a shop and buy Wii Points.

They can still churn out their remakes if they want to after putting the original games on the Virtual Console.

At least FALCOM are nice enough to give us Ys Book I & II from the PC Engine. Let's hoping that they'll give us IV and V too. (Fuck the original third -- t'was shite.)

In this day in age, they could probably make more money off of Chrono's Carnival Games on the Wii :D

But hey, at least there is a chance they may one day show up. I am sad that I'll never see Rare's N64 titles...

Precisely Unrein. In fact that is what I do in combination with an XBox 360 pad.

Square-Enix hasn't been the same since they sold out. Squaresoft and Hironobu Sakaguchi made games 10x better than the crap they produce now.

While that may be true, you have to keep in mind that it's thanks to Sakaguchi that they got into a financial mess in the first place. His PlayOnline project and Final Fantasy movie wasted a lot of money.

the FF movie was done by Sony, Sakaguichi was merely a consult.

In my opinion, it was his money to waste. Without him, they would never have made the masterpieces that made them such a great company. Sometimes in business, you have to take risks and things don't always pan out in the end. Sometimes they do. I do know that they have made a lot of money from Final Fantasy XI, so PlayOnline wasn't a total failure.
While I personally liked both of the Final Fantasy movies, I can tell not too many people did, which is a bummer.

I was looking at my game collection and I can tell just by looking at the games when Sakaguchi left. FF10 was the lastone he made, and thats when the FF games went down hill. FF10-2 was fun to play, but i think the story line blew. FF12 was also fun to play, but the story line was nothing more than a re-hashing of Star Wars. Good Games, but they have nowhere near the fan base as FF7 and 6. Now, Square Enix seems obsessed with making back-stories, and re-writing histories.

Wrong. It was by Square Pictures.

The problem with Sakaguchi's PlayOnline project was that it wasn't going anywhere in the first years of its existence. It was poorly managed.

Also, it wasn't all his money to waste, as the last Final Fantasy he directed was Final Fantasy V. He wasn't more than a producer, and then an executive producer, for the hits that followed after that, the ones bringing in the real cash being during the PSX' life time.

FFX-2 was actually part of the FFX project that was split off because the project became so big.

Now he's at Mistwalker, his own company, and he sure isn't doing anything special there at the moment.

FFX-2 Might have been part of the same FFX-Project, but that doesn't make it anywhere near as good. .hack//Legend of the Twilight was also part of the .hack-Project... and it's horrible when compared to all the other things .hack.

I havn't played any of the Mistwalker games yet, but they looked good. Now that I got myself a 360, I'll probably pick up the Blue Dragon game. I watch that cartoon(anime...) with my niece and it's pretty cool.

Wrong. It was Chris Lee Productions. Sony only distributed the DVD's despite my old game Informer article stating Square was in an agreement with Sony. My mistake.

IMDB confirms this. So what did Square Pictures do, exactly? If it didn't do anything, that's even more proof of money wasted by Sakaguchi.

I certaily agree with this thread's title. Final Fantasy 12 comes out! Oh, wait, then, final Fantasy 12 COLLECTER'S EDITION comes out! But wait, there's MORE! Then, they come out with the japanese-only Final Fantasy 12 Zodiac System, or something like that. Do we really need THREE of the SAME GAME?!
I wonder what people will see in the final days?
