The Genesis survives, somehow, and other "gimmicks"

It´s almost funny, but Tec Toy, who represents and manufactures Sega consoles in Brazil since, like, forever, is releasing a new version of Mega Drive. Yay, technological advance!

Except this new Mega Drive (labeled as Mega Drive III) has no room for cartridges... Yes, it´s a big, expensive, George Foreman Grill-like console that is sold with 86 games in its memory that you are condemned to play forever. Some of them are ports of mobile games, thrown in there just because they are ports of blockbusters, like The Sims and Need for Speed (by what I have seen of this NFS.

Not only they are not letting the Genesis/MD die in peace, but they have announced this week that they are making, in partneship to other companies and independently from Sega, an entirely new consolem called Zeebo. The project revolves around the concept of gaming without media: no cartridges or disks. Apparently, you will be able to connect it to the internet via wireless connection and download the roms of the games you are going (supposedly) to buy online. So far, these games are also ports of famous titles, like Quake and another Need for Speed. It promises to upgrade the Zeebo's internal operational system automatically and for free whenever avaiable.

I don´t know what I am going to think when I stop laughing.

This Zeebo sounds interesting... Even if it has quite ridiculous name. :D
The game controller could be better, I think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeebo

That Tectoy company always comes out with some strange ideas... I belive it's fairly popular in Brazil or in south-America.

Nice idea but, I'd still go with Pandora.

No.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeebo wrote:Zeebo is a video game console produced by Tectoy and Qualcomm and fully managed by digital distribution. Announced in 2008 as the first ever Brazilian-designed console, it was released in Brazil on May 25, 2009 with a suggested reatil price of R$ 499,00 and it will be licensed for other countries by Zeebo Inc.

A huge mobile phone that stays in your room connected to your tv and doesn´t work as a phone.

Even the N-Gage worked as a phone (a pathetic one, but it did :^P)

Good shit.
Ok. wouldn't buy that. But If I had kids they wouldn't get any other gaming console than Wii or Zeebo. :D

Zeebo...

I dunno, if I had kids, I'd buy each one a PSP with my PS1, PS2, PS3, Dreamcast, GameCube and other consoles on the TV... The PSP is very good for adhoc gaming AND those roms I love so much. Since my Sega CD is dying, I use the PSP to get my yearly dose of Snatcher... And classic PS... Well, now I have the PS2 Complete Collection... But I'd teach my kids to value the beauties of what was made within the limitations of the 8 and 16 bits consoles...

And before someone tells me "They don't make them like they used to", wrong... They still make cool games and crap ass games...

That could be hard, but I'd still try it.

WING-0, you're forgetting about the DS (fat or Lite, with GBA compatibility).
