Heroic Chaz's Game Reviews!
Welcome to my game review thread! Here, I'll be reviewing games I have played recently, or a while back. I will also review games for people upon request, so just ask, and you'll probably get a review. In any case, feel free to ask for reviews, look at some of mine, and post up opinions of your own! To start this all off, I'll review the first 4 Phantasy Star games... and a little surprise at the end.
-Phantasy Star I-

Sound- 7
Control- 8
Fun- 9
Story- 8
When this game first came out, I wasn't even born yet. But recently, thanks to an emulator, I was able to play this. For its time, Phantasy Star was pretty advanced and expansive. It had dungeons and dragons feel first-person view in dungeons, pretty good music, and good controlability. The story is bland by today's standards, but was pretty deep considering what developers had to work with back then. This started the Phantasy Star legacy, which alone gives it good credit. Overall, I give Phantasy Star I an 8.
-Phantasy Star II-
Graphics- 7
Sound- 9
Control- 9
Fun- 9
Story- 8
This game quite possibly surpassed every RPG before it! The graphics were great, especially during the Mother Brain battle. In my opinion, it also has the best random battle music of the series. The only glaring issue was the incredibly uncreative background, and the Laconian Dagger glitch, which was fixed in every version after Sega Genesis. However, a good story, decent length of gameplay, and the diverse characters in this give it an overall score of 8.6!
-Phantasy Star III-
Graphics- 8
Sound- 6
Control- 8
Fun- 7
Story- 9
This one broke off from the usual series, and is considered a black sheep, but isn't all that bad, despite my bashing of it. It introduced branching storylines and the fan favorite Wren. It has the most replay value of the series, even though the endings are sort of the same. SORT OF. One bad thing is the battle music. it's always the same, and isn't that good, it doesn't even change during boss battles, which can be annoying. Still, the game isn't all that bad and gets an overall score of 7.6.
-Phantasy Star IV-
Graphics- 9
Sound- 9
Control- 8
Fun- 10
Story- 10
To me, this game could scarcely be better. It started my fandom of all games and anime, and is one of my favorite games of all time. It has great graphics for a 1994 game, an impressive soundtack, the useful macro system, the optional sidequests, and even a couple of life lessons, all amongst tons of easter eggs and references. All in all, with it's good manga-esque cutscenes, good story, and adequate challenge level, Phantasy Star earns a well-deserved 9.2!
BONUS REVIEW
-Legend of Zelda: Phillips CDI series-
Graphics- 3
Sound- 1
Control- 3
Fun- 4
Story- 1
Ever wonder what was for dinner? You wanna know what Ganon was up to? You ever want to see Link beg Zelda for a kiss every six seconds?! Phillips CDI does this, as well as something impossible: It made Zelda games suck. Not only does it give you brain tumors the shape of Link's androgonous (sp?) face, but it has no fun value at all, unless you like seeing Link lumber around like the hulk killing moblins a third his size. The story? All I remember is a muslim Gandalf and aladdin's magic carpet. I screamed through the rest of the game. For sound, you get screechy bleeps for music and fart sounds for killing monsters, jumping, standing still, and any other action you do or don't do. Literally, kill a moblin and you hear an obscenely loud "BAFORT!". For the worst game I've ever experienced, The Zelda CDI series scores what it deserves... a 1.8.
Well, that's it for now. So, post up requesting a review, your own opinion, or even your own review! I'll put up my own reviews every now and then, so look forward to it!
