Bakugan: Battle Brawlers

What do you think of Bakugan?

It's a wanabe Yu-Gi-Oh!/Pokemon/Digimon fad. It will not last.

A good idea, but flawed.

This might just be the new Yu-Gi-Oh!/Pokemon/Digimon. Good work Sega.

Bakugan: Battle Brawlers

This is a odd idea.....

Take a marble game (well, shooting marbles anyway), and combine it with a trading card game. What would you call it?

Bakugan Battle Brawlers.

I found out about this series a little over a month ago when I found starter kits for sale at my local Target store. The anime series also started it's run on Cartoon Network just two weeks ago. It's an interesting idea for a game. And it's created by Sega (I'm not kidding. Sega Toys did make this game).

There are two sets of rules. The first is Quick Play. In this, two players put down one card each, then throw their Bakugan (the marble) into play. If it lands on the card, it will transform into a creature of some kind. (the cards have a metal plate inside them, and the Bakugans are magnetic) If two land on a card, they battle. The winner is decided by what creature has the most G Points. Durring battle, the card's ability is put into play by boosting or subtracting a Bakugan's G Points. You can also play a card in your hand to change the outcome of the battle too.

The owner of the winning Bakugan wins the card and the opponent's Bakugan. The game goes on until a player uses all of his cards, or until a player looses all of his Bakugan (It seems you're only allowed to have three per game). A player is given points for each card and Bakugan he or she has. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

The second set of rules is called Arena Play. It is a variation that is for three to four players. Other than that, not much else changes for quick play rules.

It's a great idea for a game, but there is one flaw. You see, you have to throw the Bakugan just right. If the magnet dosen't connect with the card, or if the Bakugan is rolling too fast, it will not stick.

Here's the site if you want to know more.

I'm sure there are some kids out there that will think this is a cool game and buy it thinking they can shoot each other with the marbles.

If I were that young, I would probably buy it since I was a sucker for Dijimon/Pokemon/Beyblade.
When you think you're finally alone, you're not.
