Can someone fill me in where TP is supposed to fit in the Zelda timeline? I've heard rumours that the storyline takes place after the events after OoT, but I'm not too sure about that.

Feel free to debate over the timeline, if you want. Derailing is welcome here.

Hey Benoit, mind explaining precisely how you can substantiate your diagram? I'm not sure that I agree or disagree, but I want to here your justification.
(And it seems that the Legend of Zelda timeline is rather hazy. Nintendo has never been entirely clear about it.)

The events of Ocarina of Time created a split timeline. The game essentially has two endings. In the future Ganondorf is sealed in the Sacred Realm after 7 years of terror. In the present Ganondorf never acquires the Triforce of Power.

The game also tells what happened to Ganondorf when he didn't obtain the Triforce of Power. An interview supports this, mentioning that after Link returned from the future, the relationship between him and Zelda and Ganondorf changed.

Umm, just one question. I seem to recall some TP cinematics with Ganondorf having the Triforce of Power on his hand...

Back in 2003, there was an OFFICIAL timeline of the Zelda games.

It even explained the 3 links and Zeldas. The Link in Zelda 2 was Link 3. The Zelda was Zelda 3. Cause come Zelda 2, 2 Zelda's existed at the same time.

I wish the timeline was still on the net..

It was likely just a fan's imagination. There is no overarching timeline for all Legend of Zelda games.

Have to agree with Benoit... I don't think there's ever been an official timeline released, or you could've bet that it would still be on the internet. Hell, it would probably be on a Nintendo site, because that's a pretty big deal.

I think they never fully gave a timeline. Nintendo has mentioned that some games are set before the other. Some are obvious that they are and others are ambiguously in between.

WHat gets me is.. people still insist the Zelda sleeping in Zelda 2 is the same one as in the first Zelda. It isn't!

The manual specifically states that Zelda has been aslep for hundreds of years and each daughter born would have the name Zelda.

This topic reminds me of a very detailed look I've seen regarding the Zelda timeline. The video for this was on YouTube.

Miyamoto has said:

"Ocarina of Time is the first story, then the original Legend of Zelda, then Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and finally A Link to the Past. It's not very clear where Link's Awakening fits in--it could be anytime after Ocarina of Time"

With that we can possibly put a timeline together.

I still find it nifty that Link has to put up with 2 Zelda's after Zelda 2..

Also.. the official players guide to Zelda 2 directly contradicts the instruction book data. I consider the instruction book plot to be THE TRUE story of Zelda.

For the Players guide contradicts both 1 and 2.

P.S. These two links are somewhat official based on a Miyamoto interview.. It gives the Older/young link timelines.. But ALTTP is still the very end.. It has to be, Miyamoto said so.

What. The. Hell. I've never seen an interview where he said that.

The timeline you linked is mostly correct. But it desperately tries to link A Link to the Past and the two original games, which are separate.

Superplay: So that's why the third game looked like the first one?

Shigeru Miyamoto: Exactly. We actually see A link to the Past as the real sequel to Legend of Zelda. Zelda II was more of a side story about what happened to Link after the events in Legend of Zelda.

So if we follow that logic it is: Zelda 1 - Zelda 2 sidestory - Zelda: ALTTP

So we have Z:ALTTP being the last game as of 2003...
