I know half of you will say Chrono Trigger but I still want to know, what is everyone's favorite RPG from the 16 bit era?

But SNES is a 24-bit machine, isn't it?

Oh well, I'll go for Phantasy Star 4. Always like playing that game, despite it's (lack of) difficulty.

[Edit by ThePeaGuy on [TIME]1127431575[/TIME]]

Maybe that was it's maxium potential. Kind of like how the Nintendo 64 could (alledgely) play like a 128 bit machine at it's maximum potential.

I would have to say that tales of Phantasia (The prequal to Tales of Symphonia) would be the best 16-bit RPG. And Peaguy the snes was mainly 16 bit but at full potential it could pull off 24 and maybe even 32 bit game quality

well not the gameplay aspect but the cinematics could support 32 bit graphics ... The graphics quality can always be greatly improved on cinemtaics due the fact that it's basically making a film. Like in some of the PSX games they used actual footage of people acting.

[Edit by Nightmare on [TIME]1127434359[/TIME]]

ah sorry I overlooked that... I hadn't really played Tales of Symphonia a lot. I rented it and it was good but I though it was a sequel to tales of Phantasia

Favorite game of the 16-bit era? I'd have to say one of the Phantasy Star games, but that should be a given since I doubt I would have ever found this place if I didn't like the games so much...

There were games that pushed the consoles capacity to the highest, in one or another aspect. PS4 is without doubt the best RPG for Genesis, and I have yet to know a game that used the console“s resources better. For SNES, four titles would be up there for different reasons: FFVI, Seiken Densetsu 3, Chrono Trigger and Tales of Phantasia.
My favorite of all them is PS4... (although I preffer PS3, but not even my biased opinion can put that game in the "best made RPG games ever made for 16 bit consoles" cathegory :^P)
