I'm no expert or anything, but I couldn't help but notice similarities between PSIV and Golden Sun. Am I wrong on this?

I haven't played PSIV yet so I can't say. But I hope it isn't similar, because to be honest I found Golden Sun very bland. ^_^;;

There are two golden suns, anyway I haven't played PS IV yet, but I think if PS IV has very soft songs than they are a little bit related!
Another similarity, they both show the characters in battle.
For example:
Image
Image
[Edit by Mage1 on [TIME]1113620825[/TIME]]

Mage1, that was beyond stupid. Do you want me count how many RPGs display their characters in battle?
Starlight, would you mind listing some solid similarities?

I would say in Mage1's defense that he does have a point, though those screenshots don't prove his point at all.
Before you've selected the commands in either of the two GSs, it does look exactly like PSIV; the stats in boxes at the bottom in a row, taking up the whole width and the view of the backs of the characters. Whereas other RPGs tend to take the FF-style side-on view.

Like I said, do you want me to find every single RPG that displays the characters before attacking? The list would be very large,

LaconianShot: I know that most RPGs show that characters before attacking, but the only ones that show it how PSIV does it are PSII, Lufia: Rise of the Sinistrals and GS/GS:The Lost Age. Maybe PS3 but I haven't played it yet.
No, Mage1, I don't think I did do those things. Unfortunately it wasn't necessarily the gameplay that turned me off, it was the characters. They didn't really have all that much to them, though for some reason I felt quite drawn to Sheba. :)
It is a very good game, but I just personally didn't get along with the simplistic battle system and puzzle-oriented gameplay. It needed more story, I say! :D

Too bad it will never have a sequel after GS: Lost Age.
If it did then it would have been out on GCN.
Anyway,

If anything, Golden Sun should feel like the Shining series (up to Shining Force III), since they were both made by the same developer (Camelot Software Planning). The style of game is different but they share the same kind of feel, somehow.
But PS? I see no similarity, sorry.
~Synth
[Edit by Synthesis Landale on [TIME]1113659723[/TIME]]

[Edit by Synthesis Landale on [TIME]1113659774[/TIME]]

Starlight, when you ask a question or note something, it is recommended that you write the motivation behind it.
Like now. You say you noticed some similarities.
What similarities?! Back up your point!

Erm... is someone cranky today? *Wink*
Well, I should have been more specific, t'is true. But I shall elaborate, since you asked ever so nicely, Mr. Benoit. Love your name, BTW. ;)
Anywho, I have only played Golden Sun, the Lost Age. Unfortunately, I ended up losing the cartridge. I played PS IV, much, much later, but as I played PS I felt that there were some similarities, and I couldn't help but ask those who are definitely more experienced in game playing than I.
The similarities I noticed were:
Example 1: When you would enter a town, the little blue box would appear which stated the name of the town
Example 2: As in PS IV, you could search pots and bookshelves to search for items
Example 3: The use of magic (although different)
Example 4: The caves definitely appeared to be very similar
There are several other example which I'm sure I could think of. I just know that as I played PS IV for the first time, I kept thinking of Golden Sun, the Lost Age.
Now, if someone would kindly chat with me about this some more, I'd be full of gratitude.
Zubon, as always, I appreciate your politeness. ;)

Ok, Starlight, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here. Er...for those that don't know what that means, it means to be contrary to someone just to test out their theory rather than because you think they're wrong.
1. A fair number of RPGs say the name of the town when you enter, mainly modern ones admittedly. The first RPG I played which said the name of the town upon entry was FFIX, which displayed it in many different beautiful fonts.
2. A lot of earlier RPGs let you search generic items from goodies. It's more of a modern, dumbed-down thing to have the only item-bearing things being treasure chests or something obvious like that. Like, in FFVI every Grandfather clock had an elixir in!
3. Please elaborate. From what you've said it sounds as if you've said that simply using magic is the similarity, but I'm sure you mean something more specific, since it's hard to find an RPG without magic. ^_^
4. Now this I can't comment on, having not yet had the pleasure of playing PSIV.

Zubon, as always, I appreciate your politeness. ;)

Hehe...Since I can be both very polite and very rude at times, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not! n_n

[Edit by Zubon on [TIME]1113698530[/TIME]]
