Bug or feature?

Phantasy Star is REMARKABLY bug free. It's incredible just how airtight it is.
There is one minor bug that I've noticed, maybe. If it's unintentional.
When you are on the Land Rover and are passing over an Antlion as you get into a random battle, the battle will always be with an Antlion. Kind of doesn't make sense.

I think this was intentional. Not sure how this does not make sense? If you are on top of an Antlion, that's what you fight?
What DOESN'T make sense to me is, getting out of the land rover to fight anything, instead of just running them over and going about the rest of your day. XD

Why would you all of a sudden not be able to cross the ant lions without a battle?

Hm, good point. Does it force an encounter in the landrover? I just beat the Switch version recently, and I don't remember. XD
My guess: because it looks like the ant lion is at the bottom of a sand pit, and even the land rover can't cross without killing the thing creating the pit?

It doesn't force an encounter, no.
You do still get random encounters, however, and the random encounter will be with an Ant Lion 100% of the time if you happen to get one while driving over them.

Ah yeah, it wouldn't make sense if it triggered every time.
