What if you came to the end of Rhys quest and wern't ready for a commitment?
I mean Maia isn't who you thought she was and who even is Lena?
Do you think they would be willing to wait?

What if Ayn wasn't into incest and thought Sari was a bitch? What if Nial was a bigot due to his upbringing in Landen and his issues with Lune, and refused to marry a Layan under any circumstances?

Since Aron's is the cannon ending. I would say that Rhys was too bigoted to marry Maia in the end.

There's no single canon ending. They're all valid until Phantasy Star III-2.

Aron's ending definitely fits best as far as series continuity, but it's not necessarily canon.

^I'm guessing that he is being facetious. It is very unlikely that they would make a sequel to the least popular game in a series which (excluding PSO) hasn't had a new release in almost 25 years.
