Was he a normal human who was possessed, like the Governor of Motavia? Was he sort of reincarnated like Lashiec? Or was he just Dark Force in disguise?

Also, what was his original plan? Was he going to go to Rykros, or was he going to try and stop Chaz and company from going there?

Finally, if he knew the Aeroprism was at the top of the temple, why didn't he just go get it himself?

I believe he is Dark Force in disguise, as he claims to be an archaeologist, but no one at the Piata Academy seems to have heard of him.

I think it was just Dark Force disguising himself as a human all along.

You almost never see random people anywhere outside of towns in the game, so for a random man to be inspecting ancient ruins on a lone island seems quite unlikely.
